Official: Episodic Content in 2008

Recommended Posts

In Take-Two's Fiscal 2006 Financial Results, posted today, there was a little mention about Grand Theft Auto IV.

Grand Theft Auto IV, the next-generation console debut of the genre-defining franchise, will be shipped simultaneously for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION®3 in October. Starting in 2008, Rockstar will introduce exclusive episodic content downloads for Grand Theft Auto IV.

Previously, Rockstar Games announced that there will be TWO additional episodes for the game, giving hours of extra gameplay and does not just include a ''new car or character''.

off-topic: maybe its time to start looking at that info release date contest thread lol

on-topic: its starting to look like the possible differences between both platform versions are becoming smaller and smaller with this news of episodic content and all, which is good, because i havent decided between a ps3 and an xbox 360 yet. Although im still pretty loyal to sony (not some crazy fanboy), so i wouldnt mind if the ps3 version was a bit better.

I don't know... The way I see it, there are too options:

• Rockstar's "best minds" work on the downloadable, episodic content

--> instead of GTA: The Sequel to GTA IV (whatever), we will simply get extra missions/islands/something for the same old setting and era - in other words, the sequel will be delayed because the staff is busy adding extra stuff

• Some other dudes create the content

--> the end result might be disappointing

Well, maybe everything will be okay. sigh.gif

However, as some sort of a games collector I must say I prefer games that are complete when you buy them. Downloadable content only exists on your hard disk, which isn't necessarily a good thing.

Downloadable content sounds good but comes with some problems. I started wondering about that when they first announced these extra episodes. Can console burn stuff to CD?? I dont think they can, so how are you going to keep this stuff once you finished playing GTAIV and you need some space for new games, you just lose your downloaded content. Maybe this content will remain available for download but surely a time will come they will remove it cause the game has become too old, so you paid for download episodes you dont even have anymore. Hope this gets released on PC cause it doesn't suffer from that problem I can just burn it to a DVD or maybe by then blu-ray.

I have been thinking.Didnt they say when they released GTA LCS for psp that it will have some aditional content. And it doesnt have.Still that doesnt mean GTA IV wont have it but...

i'm sure it was mentioned and I;m stupid for not realising that the extra content could be the 5th Borough? (New Jersey, I think)

When you download the content it is stored on your Hard Drive, not writen to disc, once you've downloaded it once, you can download it again, as many times as you like, at no extra cost, so, no, if you delete it, it won't be lost forever, because you can just get it again, I don't think many consoles will be made that will write content to discs themselves, far too many piracy issues there for any company to agree to allow that, if you could burn it to a disc you could just sell the discs to friends, and lose the company money, and if you could write it to the GTA3 dics there's not much stopping you from writing it to any disc.

Honestly, I won't be upset with Sony or R* if no downloadable content is available for the PS3. Don't get me wrong, given the chance between DLC and no DLC, which do you think I'd want? But extra content will not necessarily make the gaming experience any better. I'm still playing and enjoying San Andreas and Vice City years after their release. No episodic content needed to keep me coming back. This DLC from MS sounds like a last ditch effort on their part to swing the public's interest before the Sony Armageddon comes knocking at their door.
