EARLY RHINO

In PS2 version, it is possible to obtain a Rhino very early on after all, as in right after you do the very first mission, you can perform something to glitch your wanted level to attain 6 stars already even when Staunton and SSV are still locked. Specifically, this involves doing the “AWOL Angel” mission in SSV. The SSV exclusive mission appears to toggle off the island’s wanted level system, but strangely, the apparent glitch can be triggered only by this mission. I tried doing “See the Sight Before Your Flight” plus other side missions in SSV, and the glitch didn’t work.

 

This might be particularly useful for those who might want to use this vehicle for their early vigilante mission or for some other stuff while still in Portland. Unfortunately though, if you want it in Portland, you can’t save the tank in your garage as it wouldn’t fit in there. The glitch also only works for as long as you don’t reload or restart your game. Once you do so, your wanted level would be reset back to normal and you have to do the whole process again of triggering the glitch. Not sure though if this would work for others in PS2 or for the PSP, but it definitely works for me everytime.

 

So what you need to do are:

1) Load a saved SSV game to trigger the lift bridge glitch so SSV would be acessible. If you don't have any saved SSV game, you can still use the Predator or speeder from Staunton, then just push the boat on dry land towards the ferry dock north of Staunton. Drop it into the water carefully and use that to go to SSV.

 

2) Load an early Portland game then perform Orion_SR’s Staunton Warp Zone trick and other Portland tricks to get to Staunton Island. If you’ve unlocked Staunton already, then you wouldn’t have to bother about this obviously.

 

3) From Staunton proceed to SSV and start “AWOL Angel” mission. You don’t need to continue this mission, just kill your driver once the timer appears.

 

After you fail “AWOL Angel” mission, your wanted level is now set to maximum already. You can now just choose where to raise you wanted level to 6 stars to obtain a Rhino. If you need it in Portland, just go back there using any of the boats in the Staunton dockyard.

 

Once back in Portland, just create mayhem to raise your wanted level in the usual way. It’s faster to get 6 stars if you’ll use an RPG and shoot down police helis once they start to appear. Eventually, you’ll get 6 stars and the army with their tanks would appear. Steal one and just try to find ways to lose the heat afterwards, but NEVER RELOAD your game or you lose the tank and the glitch.

 

This would also work once you’re in Staunton already and while SSV is still locked. Might be a better option if you want to keep the Rhino as the tank would at least fit in the Staunton garage.
