creative madman

i think all of the GTAS have their own atmospere and features that seperate them.

SA has the most replaybility for me

but VC was my favourite

VCS and LCS are pretty much equal IMO

and GTA3 is my least favourite, becuase i just thinks its soo obsolete now, and i profer the atmosphere of the other 2 maps

are we rating or comparing?? ok then i think SA got some cool features off gta3, but gta3 still remain the best one ever.

liked everything in gta3, and in gta sa like climbing, swimming, camera rotation, music and myths

I liked all the things you could do in San Andreas and the way the game works (camera etc.) but I'm not into the whole gangsta thing and I preferred Vice and 3 for that.

Awesome game though, keeps your entertained for hours.

I loved SA but now I can get a bit distracted when I play it. The early missions cut scenes were the best and made it very immersive but then the story went to far off track and the writers had trouble keeping up the momentum. It never recaptures that honest 'homies 4 life' feel thats created at the start of the game which is a big shame because I really wanted it to. There could have been so much more territory and businesess to buy and mini-missions to keep the games purpose going even after 100% completion.

I think Rockstars sense of humour is cutting edge though and they must have a great laugh coming up with the script and graphics details. Probably not too different to the Simpsons development meetings, drink coffee and come up with sarcastic, offensive and plain stupid ideas and get a pay cheque for it!

I prefer VC as the entire story is a better 'package' but what stops me going back to it since SA is its lack of a rotating camera which was showcased in SA. I will pay for a patch to include it in VC and perhaps even III but I doubt Rockstar will ever release one? confused.gif

Out of 10 with 10 being amazingly, insanely awesome and 1 being absolute sh*t:

  • Grand Theft Auto III - 8

Great game, great story. Totally revolutionized GTA.

  • Grand Theft Auto Vice City - 9

Superb sequel to a great game. Lived up to the GTA series name and more. Introduction of motorcycles and helicopters - always a bonus.

  • Grand Theft Auto San Andreas - 7

Again, a great game. Tons of new features, like the all-important skill of swimming. However, I feel it lacked in story compared to the other two 3D GTA games.

  • Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories - 8

GTA's premier on the PSP handheld was amazing. It managed to still capture GTA's brillance in the palm of your hand.

  • Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories - N/A

I haven't had the chance to play it, so I can't judge it.

San Andreas is tops for me, though I can only compare it to games outside the series, since I've only played that and the top down ones, of which GTA2 is the best. I got the game in May, and I've been playing it daily since, which is a huge feat for me since I have a short attention span and a 10-minute memory. I never got around to playing the other GTA games, though I plan to, since apparently the storylines are a lot better. R* should, when they finish the entire GTA series, make one gigantic map with the cities from all the games. I'd gladly pay double or triple price for that.

I have not played the Originals, which puts me in dangerous territory here. ph34r.gif San Andreas was great for me simply because of the throttle controls, parachutes, planes, higher altitude limits, better graphics (not really), great radio music.gif , the grand replay value gives us many cool made-up stories and...just... suicidal.gif

I lost my Vice City last year and I have been too stupid to get a new one. bored.gif

Raymond Luxury-Yacht

After having wasted spent dozens and dozens of hours on III, VC and SA at around the worst time imaginable in my life (preparing for school applications.....go figure), I think that Vice City is my favorite by far.

I think this has nothing to do with the 'setting', or the 'graphics', or even the 'sounds'----VC is best, because I think it's the best crafted game. It flows beautifully; the map's just the right size; there's just the right amount of stuff to do; the story is well rounded, etc. VC does not aspire to be a 'simulation', and hence, does very good at what it's meant to be good at: Being a 'comic interpretation of gangster activity'.

As far as the 'setting' goes, before I played the game, I had my doubts; I personally favor the LC-like metropolitan landscapes; but then VC was successful even to make me like its setting.

And as concerns the graphics and the sounds, blasphemous as this may sound, VC does a much, much, much better job than SA----the latter's tiresome to the eye, and with the exception of San Fierro, quickly gets bland. VC, in contrast, always 'glitters' as it were.

Enough nonsense; so here are my humble ratings:

III: 8.5/10

VC: 10/10

SA: 8/10

The only reason i don't like vice city is that i beat the game many times and i found there wasn't enough replayability, yet Tommy Vercetti is my favorite character of all GTA's. and plus i have the PS2 version, and the PS2 versions graphics are complete sh*t, it's really blurry and it makes my eyes water. i think Vice City was too small, and san andreas was just right, there was different types of places in san andreas, Los Santos the gang slums, San Fierro the industrial whirlpool, The Badlands country sides and mountians, tierra robada the desert, and Las Venturas the casino area. GTA 3 was, in my opinion, too... well bland, i never beat the game because i was tired of staring at the same things over and over again, meaning that all the stuff, every building kinda looks same and i never felt a real change in what i was playing. i don't know which one is my favorite of them, probably GTA SA, but each on of them have their own unique flaws and differences.

Absolutely highest rate possible.

When I was a kid, if someone told me "there will be the game where you enter the bar and play 3D pool, but it's just a tiny, tiny detail of the whole game..." I would send that person to psychiatrist.

This game has it all: suspense, action, strategies, brains, humor, millions of details...

Definately a 10/10 when it came out tounge.gif

If it would've been released for the first time now, it should've got 8,5/10 tounge2.gif

San Andreas is clearly my favorite of all games... ever. I can say that without having played LCS or VCS yet.

( what a shame I haven't anuj_cop.gif )

HolyGrenadeFrenzy

At first I didn't think I would respond to this thread then I realized I must because out of 1-10...."It goes up to eleven!" unquote Spinal Tap. biggrin.giflol.gif

But in all seriousness, this game challenged every previous game ever produce with its new bar for game judgement and it was riskay enough that it challenged the law makers and political systems and governing bodies of Entire Nations too come to agreements and decisions about policy and other things. That is very powerful and it became the highes sale for a game or movie world wide. I think even if newer games are better in some areas it still gets the eleven. You can only judge a game by games previous or the game you are playing may have been the new standard and without it the standard would be lower.

I give San Andreas an 8.5/10. I liked the storyline especially in Los Santos but it got weird when advancing on in the game. There were also a lot of unneeded features (like girlfriends for example). I could never try to replay the storyline of San Andreas since the storyline is enormous. I liked the gangsta theme but it won't compare to how good Vice City is in my mind.

Well San Andreas is amongst THE best gaming experiences I've ever had if you consider the first time through up to about the first few missions after you're dumped unexpectedly into the Badlands. I will say that the "Homies fo' Life" storyline really worked for me and I was totally into it for the LS and part of the Badlands. However I found that the story basically forgot itself somewhat.

LS was the most well put together city scape in all of GTA and it really FELT more real than any other. The story seeped into the mood of the town and as you explored the gameworld and the features the story carried you. The big build up to the final mission was fantastic and it really felt cinematic in its intensity. The betrayal and the cut scenes under the bridge and the GREEN SABRE! It was all very cool. Then the final LS mission that ended with you in the middle of nowhere... that was a thrill of a turnout. But after that the game basically felt less polished. Those annoying Badlands racing levels bugged me and then the other two cities had less compelling stories and even their landscapes weren't as well done. The Desert was the salvation of the 2nd half of the game and James Woods will never be forgotten by me when it comes to best game characters.

It isnt a perfect game but in the GTA scheme of things SA owns I feel in overall character and feel for just LS. I played VC first and it really worked for me but I never FELT it like I felt San An.

It gets tops for me. I just wish I could play it for the first time all over again. Top 5 gaming memories for me was that 2 weeks when I was sick when I played it for the first time.

The "atmosphere" people keep mentioning about VC might be caused by the fact that shooting people in that game is more fun because of the gorey animations, combined with how the superior weapons make it much easier to run from the cops.

I mean in VC you could just stand in a protected place with a good weapon and even the army had absolutely no chance of touching you until your ammo ran out.

It adds sort of a crazy fun-factor.

Personally i liked the atmosphere in SA a lot better, perhaps because i played it before i got VC.

I like how it feels more real and serious.

Also obviously VC and GTA 3 had a LOT more hostile gangs, and a lot more spontaneous gang-shootouts on the streets, as the entire maps were filled with various gangs.

Unlike SA, where the entire map apart from small areas of Los Santos are completely peaceful.

That's possibly a downside of SA.

Edit: I also agree that San Fierro and especially Las Venturas seem a bit thrown together to add cities to the game and really aren't dynamic enough.
