Cricket World Cup Prediction League

Okay, okay. I left this horribly late, it starts next month. But we still have time to stack it in.

Here's the link

Once you have registered and are in the managers area, you can create a team.

It is fairly straightforward, like all fantasy leagues. Players are issued a ranking from A to G and have a numerical value. You have a certain amount of points to use to fill up your team with players from all over the world.

Once you have made a team, join the GTAF league using this code

By clicking on "User Comp. - Join"

Then we can wait for the fun to begin by chatting about it here. biggrin.gif

Now bear with me while I get some pancakes in order. smile.gif

I got a surprisingly good team with my allotted points.

Question: How do we view the standings in our private GTAForums league? I can see the options for all the public ones, but not ours...

I'm not an expert with Fantasy Leagues. Do the players who perform well in the real life World Cup achieve points for the teams they're included in on the Internets?

Basically, yes. The real accomplishments by the players earn points that go to your team, the objective is to get as many good players as possible that will score the most points. Loads of variables, loads of consideration. I love it.

What I have done is sacrificed a bowling spot with some Irish dude so I could spend more points on good batsmen, because the Caribbean is going to be the scene for some crazy massive scores if the last few months are anything to go by.

You can't see the details of people's sides until the competition starts.

Oh, and Clark is in for Lee, who will miss the entire tourney.

Edit: And there is a gfx request for this topic, lads.

Double posting for news.

Stuart Clarke has been added in there for Brett Lee at a D ranking. I probably would have put him between C and D so thats pretty good. I wonder how many will select him in their squad.

NEWS IS NO EXCUSE ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S A GOOD NUMBER OF HOURS LATE.

I added Stuey this morning, in place of Tait. Can't believe Clark of all players is ranked a D. Bar-gain!

Another question: If we win points, can we use these to invest in better players? And is the winner the user who holds the most spare points at the end of the Cup?

As far as I can tell you don't change your team mid-way (only your captains) based on the amount of points earned, and whoever has the most points ends up winning.

You might be able to change your team but it doesn't say anything about the number of points you have.

Na guys the points you have to get players and the points they earn are completely separate. The total amount of points earned is how the winner is determined.

So you can't ever purchase players worth a total more than that which you had to start with? Or, in other words, you only have X amount of points the whole tournament to distribute amongst players?

The values of players fluctuate throughout the tournament, as does that of your team. In theory, if my guy that was rated G plays and hauls ass and is rated up to D or E, the total value of my team is greater than what is was, and I can then trade him for someone else with more points in hand.

On the flip side, all your A grade players can get injured and go down to C's, and your team's value is massively reduced - the only way to go back up is to get players that go up in value.

The reason the points for players and accomplishments aren't tied into each other is because they aren't in proportion. Players have the potential to score loads of points individually very quickly, and people like to keep tabs on that.

Post your teams. Here's my Super-Ultra-Mega Mecha-team:

Solid, very solid. But how did you afford all those Australians?

So you are Zisheng Chen? What nationality is that name from?

Here's my team:-

Lou Vincent

Ross Taylor

Michael Hussey

Ricky Ponting*

AB de Villiers

Mark Boucher

Chris Gayle

John Davison

Makhaya Ntini Lasith Malinga

Jerome Taylor Muttiah Muralitharan

Andrew White

This is subject to change considering some recently released stats on bowling at the death. Harbhajan Singh and other spinners seem to be the way to go.

Edit: There we go. Ceylon Spin to the rescue.

I was born in China, hence the name. But I've lived in Australia for about fifteen years now. Fuzzy's a mate from school. Oh yeah, I have connections.

Fuzzy couldn't connect a garden hose to water his lawn. Thats actually true (I would think) considering the restrictions. Maybe he can on certain days or something.

Hoping to swap Johnson in the future. Possibly Vaughan and even Gilly as well, depending on how things go. Jayasuriya is the captain because he can earn double points from wickets as well as runs.

Good idea.

I'll change mine to Chris Gayle.

Idea thief.

May I just say that Sehwag is an absolute steal at an E ranking and only seven points. Have a looksie at my new team (edit, above). I'm rather happy with it now.

Jay, why would you have had Punter as captain anyway. I don't think he'll earn as much as some of the better ODI players like M Clarke or a few of the internationals.

Do I seriously need to trot out his stats while being captain of Australia? They really speak for themselves.

Ah I see you invested in Kumar, FuJ. Naice. I had Monty Panesar, but then I shafted him for Pace bowlers... then shafted them for Sri Lankan spinners because they are incredibly stingy in the death, which seems to be an increasingly valuable attribute.

Yeah, I've been giving this a bit of thought.

Bowlers who don't usually bowl the full ten overs are better because they're less likely to go for 60+ runs. Initially I had a few spinners to take wickets in a few overs per match, but then decided to move a bit more towards the pace men considering the state of the Windies' pitches. Hence the acquisition of Ntini in Panesar's place.

Also, especially for the earlier rounds, openers are a good idea since they'll all have a chance at big runs.

New team:

Matthew Hayden

Virender Sehwag

Herschelle Gibbs Inzy

Sachin Tendulkar

Craig McMillan

It might not be the best thing to tell each other our hints and tips. We are competing against each other after all... But I suppose it's good for the larger competition.

Trust me, Jay and Chalk need all the tips they can get.

And even then, we'll wallop their poor arses.

Honestly I don't care how well I go with the points etc, but if I could make a team that I think would be pretty much any other 11 out there that would be it. There's quite a few good players that I think will do well.

Without actually scouting around too much, these are the ones that I have seen do well in the past.
