Mister Pink
Just done this now. I'm making a series of postcards and gonna try sell or even give them to shops to sell. Get my name around. I don't think I'd use this, I'm just using it to try out the postcard format. 🅵🅴🅽🅸🆇 🅵🆄🅽🅺 🅵🅸🆅🅴

ViceDog
Yeah ok, so i'm thinking of buying this Nikon D40x, as shown here: I've read the reviews, and they all say that this is an excellent camera for the enthusiast. Good buy, or not? Going to buy it at Schiphol (Duty Free) for 150 Euros less than what it is out here.

Wheelman
Yeah ok, so i'm thinking of buying this Nikon D40x Good buy, or not? For an entry-level DSLR, yep, good buy. However be aware that it is pretty basic. Plenty things have been stripped out to get it down to that price. Most notably, the in-body focussing motor. The D40x only works with lenses that have built-in focussing motors. A great money spinner for Nikon, as it prevents you from using any older, cheaper, or second-hand lenses that use in-body focussing. Other things such as the focus points, metering modes, etc etc, are all cut down which you might find restrictive in the longer term. The entry level offerings from Canon, Sony, Pentax etc aren't quite as cheap but have more features.
ViceDog
Nikon's marketing group must have been behind that. Just means I'm limited to only their lenses and no one else's. I'll have to think about that one, but I don't think that will be a problem since I'm not limited to any other company like Canon or Panasonic. Would you recommend a camera like the EOS 350D/400D over the D40x?

Would you recommend a camera like the EOS 350D/400D over the D40x? About a thousand times... the EOS400D and 350D give you way more options, a better image quality in some cases and you can use lots of more lenses for the camera, older and 3rd party lenses which is a good thing. Hell No..
I use a 350D. See some of my pictures for the quality if you wish. Very good camera. I'm on Twitch! Are you? Come say Hi. https://www.twitch.tv/priceyryan
ViceDog
I'll have a very good think about each one, and hopefully I can come to a conclusion before i leave to Venice. That's where I want to make some shots . Might take a course to get to know the camera, and the camera techniques as well. Anyways, here are some shots i took with an old Sony DSC-F707 from 2001 . Can't believe it cost $1,000 back in the day. Shots are from last weekend, where we went away on our boat.

Would you recommend a camera like the EOS 350D/400D over the D40x? Well in that aspect, it's no different from any other camera. You can't put Canon lenses on any Nikon body, but Nikon, Sigma, Tamron, etc make lenses with a Nikon mount. Nor will Pentax lenses fit a Sony/Minolta body. The difference is that if you buy a camera body with a built in focus drive, you can choose from any lenses for that mount since about 1985 when auto focus was invented for SLRs. Without the in-body motor, the simplified version is that you're more limited in future lens purchases, and they'll cost more as well. Yes the EOS 400D would be my preference over the D40x as it's more fully featured. However it's also worth looking beyond Canon and Nikon. Both Sony (A100) and Pentax (K110D) offerings feature in-body image stabilisation, so all your lenses become stabilised. It's one of those features that, once you've had it, you never want to be without it again. Don't forget though, that the most important component is you, the photographer. All DSLRs on the market now are good cameras, there aren't really any "duff" ones out there. Just make sure you choose one that is comfortable and easy to use (e.g. Canon 400D was a no-go for me 'cos it was just too damn small to hold properly), and ties you in to a lens mount that you're happy with. Oogie
i need some help here D: i really, really can not hold a camera steady. no matter how hard i try, i always shake a bit, and it gets horrible on big pictures. i cant take good pictures unless i have a tripod or something on wich i can put the camera. i have 2 stabilizer modes, mode 1, mode 2 and off, but none of them seem to help me. anyone has tricks to help me solve my problem ? it really sucks
stretch.
steady the camera against yourself is something I do when noticing shake, theres also the old military sniper trick =p shoot as you exhale. Depending on your camera settings you may be able to increase the shutter speed, a shorter shutter speed may affect image quality (I think) but means that shake isn't as much of a deal. Coming soon though Oh don't worry about me, I know how to do HDR, I've tried it a few times myself. Thanks all the same though. Although mine aren't as good as yours just above so I'll still be reading it for any good tips. I commented on that one specifically because I thought it had a really nice tonal range - and I think you mentioned another technique you'd used in it too, other than HDR? Great airport pic btw - what a shame the nearest glass had to have that white stripe running across it though. But it still has great atmosphere, imo. ViceDog
Appeared in front of our door today . Oh yeah, i'm going for the EOS 400D, body only. I'll purchase either the EF 17-40mm, EF-S 17-55 Lens or the EF-S 17-85 lens, all of which are from Canon. Ottae
Helloo! First post in here! I was sitting at my PC, turned around and saw this. I had to take a picture of it so I borrowed my Dad's Nikon D50 because my little Canon Powershot A300 Digital Camera couldn't manage it.
