Sixdust
im thinking of gettin a new tv, and this is my first choice...any suggestions? Samsung DLP TV What is your location in the world(Canada I assume?), what is your budget and do you plan to hook to hook up cable/plenty of home theater items to your tv? Otter
DLP is not an alternative to HDTV, it's just another form of rear-projection television. Personally, I'm not a fan of rear projection televisions, because they always look like a projection - the bulb is always visible to some degree, and drives me f*cking nuts. It all depends on your tastes, however, and if you want to go LARGE, then DLP will cost a hell of a lot less than a 60'' plasma.
Bauer
DLP or HDTV? I think you should do a little bit of homework... ? There's a lot to know when it comes to HDTV... and if you're going to spend that much money, you should educate yourself as much as possible. My parents, in their insanity, went out and bought a very large DLP (similar to your Samsung) without really knowing what's what. It's lucky they bought a respectable TV and got the extended warranty, and my father isn't as mindless as my mother. She bought a $40 HD-DVD thinking it would work in standard DVD players. But I digress. How can you see the lamp, Otter? Only time I ever see a lamp on my parent's DLP is if I manage to get a small peek through one of the air vents. I'm not discrediting you, I'm just wondering about the specifics of your situation. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding you. Edit: That's interesting, Otter. I do not believe I have ever seen that before. I'm sure I am going to notice it now, though. But, I do see your point about the angle to see the best picture. Hooray for LCD. Otter
I'm not speaking of the physical lamp itself - I can always see a brighter area (the center of the screen) after the first hundred hours of use. This, coupled with the shifting quality depending on your veiwing angle, just agitates me. Then again, I'm a totall ADD guy, so I'm up, moving around like crazy. If you have a projection television just for films, then I'm sure you'll be more than happy, as you're sitting still the whole time. So, like I said, it's a total pet peeve. The joy of a plasma or LCD is that I can be washing dishes, pop my head around the corner , and see an even, sharp, and bright image.
