grove street O.G.
Hello guys, I have seen alot of posts about this and I have searched but no results. I am very confused about which graphics card to use. I have a NVIDIA Geforce4 MX 440, does this card work with playing san andreas? I had san andreas before but I had problems with the frame rate. The frame rate was very slow . So could that be because of the graphics card I am using. When I had the problem I contacted a PC doctor and he told me to change the screen resolution, but that messed my PC up extremly so I dont want to try that. Any help will be appritiated Thanks in advance
lahna
Your graphics card is the reason for the low framerate. The GF4 MX440 is a slow card in modern standards. There are of course other factors determining your computer's performance, like the CPU speed and RAM amount, but your graphics card is way too slow to run SA properly. I would recommend a GeForce 6 or 7-series card.
maf
Make sure your Visual FX Quality is set to Low, and maybe turn the Frame Limiter OFF - those are my settings (with a GF 5200) and the frame rate is good. It may also work okay with a GF MX 440, but I would say a MINIMUM of a GF 5200, which is last year's bottom level video card; dirt cheap nowadays. Wa-sh
You don't even need to have a GeForce 4. Even a GeForce 2 will suffice. As for me, I'm having an Intel Integrated with 64 MB and SA works without any lag. A *lot* depends on how you setup your PC. @grove street O.G. Goto Options -> Display Setup. If you find the game still running slow, check out my post for detailed instructions in this thread: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...dpost&p=4063721

Nah, you dont *have* to reduce it to that small, but if the game isn't playing as smooth as you want it to, then you can try it. And its not messing up the PC as such, its just changing the display res. You can always change it back.
grove street O.G.
I bought the game and it works fine without altering the screen res. Thanks to all who helped
Timpo
and if you still have problems, make sure your game resolution is set to 640x480, the lowest. has nothing to do with the rest of your PC, only with San Andreas...
grove street O.G.
thanks dude BTW I got it to work just like a ps2 and xbox. I turned off the frame limiter and then it was as smooth and flat as my girl friends chest
maf
You might also want to use RivaTuner, as I do with my GF 5200, to tweak the LOD (Level Of Distance) settings to get rid of the "black roads in the distance" video problem. Under the Direct 3D options in RivaTuner, go to the Mipmapping tab, then under the 'Mipmap LOD bias adjustment' change the slider value from the default 0.0 to -3.0, and hit OK.
