This sh*t rustles my jimmies:

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/ug_news/ug_showdown_quarterfinals_brian_may_vs_jimmy_page.html

Look at all the "contestants". This is all some high-gain sh*t. The worst part is that one guy got downvoted all the way to hell for suggesting that these guitarists are not God personified. People are so f*cking stupid. All my money says Jimi Hendrix will win; An able blues guitarist, but not the greatest guitarist who ever lived. Where the f*ck is Lee Ritenour? Larry Carlton? Dean Parks? Steve Khan? Jay Graydon? Elliott Randall? Jon Herington? All of these are not exclusively jazz guitarists (Ritenour played on Pink Floyd's "The Wall", for example), yet go completely ignored.

When you say "guitar gods", the kiddies immediately think of all the overrated hard rock/whatever-form-of-metal players. Seriously, how the f*ck did Jimmy Page "beat" Satriani? I like Page's work as much as the next guy, but Satch is galaxies above him. Oh, and Clapton getting the edge over Vai... my f*cking god.

Then there are so many legends missing... All of the ones you mentioned, Danny Gatton, Chet Atkins, Ted Greene, Breau, Jason Becker, even Ron Jarzombek... This contest is some Rolling Stone-level sh*t.

That's the same contest in which Mike McCready from Pearl Jam beat Eddie Van Halen if I remember correctly.

$4,700 plus tax

Sold out of artist grade quilt maple (flame only)

And the colour I really want is not available

Rest is all good though.

But the way I'm thinking, if I'm going to spend that kind of money, I want it exactaly how I envision it

Holy crap that's pricey. I agree with you, no point in getting almost what you want for the price of a kidney. You do know that for $4700 you can have a luthier make you a totally custom built, one-off guitar?

I can have one built way cheaper than that by a luthier friend of mine lol

I might go with Warmoth and have them build me a custom body and neck.

Strat body

2 humbuckers (chrome covered) included jb/59

No pickguard

Floyd rose - included

Body binding

Swamp ash body

Quilt maple top

Matching headstock

AAA birds eye maple neck and board (oil finished)

Fretboard binding

Medium jumbo frets

Sharkfin inlays (maybe, still unsure)

Schaller strap locks - included

I may go with a blue burst sort of like my Les Paul.

I should be able to get everything for it for around $2,500 tops

That's a sweet price. Bound strats are beautiful. I haven't ever seen a bound maple fretboard.

Made a new one, with some mistakes in it, not as "shred" as the last one. But I love the Blackbird solo.

Kind of insecure how good/bad I did this. I would like to hear some opinions.

I think I used the wah pedal too much making it sound too whiny/annoying.

Sound is fine, only gripes are technique-related.

Is your guitar properly set up? Is the intonation and neck relief correct? It sounds flat on the higher frets.

It is properly setup but I should check the intonation.

It can make a world of difference. It's important to take your time, though, and lay it flat on its back. I'm so sick and tired of seeing luthiers and amateurs alike putting them on a 'neck-stand', which gives the neck more relief than it actually has.

Here's what I was thinking for the body

In between the volume and tone would be a 3 way toggle.

What about gold or black hardware? It's just my personal opinion, but I find that chrome combined with the blue may feel harsh on one's eyes.

I dispise black hardware on anything lol

Gold is find until it starts to tarnish then it looks like garbage.. I had a couple Ibanez jem7v's

I see. We disagree on the aesthetics of guitars, but I'm looking forward to seeing more once you've decided.

Also, resevil2008: You really, REALLY should not hold the guitar like that. You'll contract tendinitis, for sure. Take it from a professional, there is absolutely no reason to be holding it so low.

Playing with my tone again, took some of the fizzle out of it, I hate fizzle lol

Here's one - so you don't end up looking like you're in The Shadows!

Whether or not you're serious, I think it's a damn shame that looks and showmanship got all mixed up into music. Small wonder that pop music is complete horsesh*t.

That is sound advice. Performance>looks. A dude at school used to give me crap about wearing my strap so high and playing classical guitars in the proper position... He can't play for sh*t and only carries his guitars around to look cool. Unless you're going for looks only, pull that sh*t up :p

I'm considering taking an even bigger loan to buy something like a Gibson L4 or Super 400, but can't decide if it's stupid, short-sighted, or awesome.

Had this old Epiphone in it's case under the bed, decided to haul it out and have a little fun.

But..but I don't really hold it that low..

Hell, I was planning to hold it even lower once I feel comfortable with some complicated techniques at a certain speed.

Well, if you feel more comfortable with it that way, I'd say go for it. It just doesn't seem too practical for playing with precision, I guess. :) Edited by Black_MiD

Partially serious.

I play pretty low slung, it's comfortable for me. You don't, you play the way it's comfortable for you. Techniques vary, people vary. Amazing, isn't it?

Personally my technique is utter sh*t, I've been playing 20 years and don't even know a single scale (or am aware of knowing). I just play what feels and sounds good.

Surely that's the most important thing? To get pleasure out of it. Not to be the tippy-top of the best of the best of the best sir.

Absolutely, but holding the guitar low if you play and practice a lot can cause tendinitis to come knocking. It's simply not good for your shizzle. Lukather's hands should have fallen off by now.
