Yeah, man. And you know how tricky those Brazilian chords get. I'll see if I can find a video of someone playing it.

Is that how you record your Soundcloud stuff? If so, it's got pretty good quality. I'm going to have a look at that, actually.

edit: Found a video:

Pretty close to my arrangement. The guy gets into an improvised solo from 1:48-2:36, though. I either improvise something similar of my own there or just go on with the regular piece (as played by Jobim) and end it timely. Edited by Black_MiD

Sounds great.

I record my soundcloud stuff using my 2nd gen. iPad. iReal Pro is like a fake book, though. 1300 chord diagrams for jazz (don't know how many for other genres) are available, and you can edit them, and create your own. Worth the buck, imo.

Just gonna work on getting it totally smooth now. The intro is still a bit rough because of the awkward stretches...

That sounds pretty awesome. There must be someone around here selling 2nd hand iPhones or something. I'd like to get my filthy little hands on one of those.

Yeah, iPhones are great. My dear friend Marie gave me an iPhone 4s. I don't give a f*ck what Android elitists think, I love my iPhone.

Man. I don't give a sh*t that I didn't get the GB-10. The sound I'm getting with my AF75, holy sh*t. Sounds at least as good as my teacher's 1965 ES-175.

What does your setup look like at the moment? And damn, your teacher's lucky as hell!

What amp are you using? The settings, pedals and such... :)

For Jazz Music:

Ibanez "Artcore" AF75D

  • Neck PU: Ibanez ACH1 Humbucker
  • Bridge PU: Ibanez ACH2 Humbucker
  • Strings: D'Addario XL Chrome Flatwounds - .012 - .052 (wound .024 G)
  • Modified pickup height for personal preference

Fender Super Champ XD

  • 15 watt tube amp

I'm plugging the AF 75 into the XD, which is set on the Fender Clean channel. Flat EQ, volume at 6-7, reverb on 3-4.

For other music:

Fender Modern Player Starcaster Reissue:

  • Both pickups are Fender "Wide Range" humbuckers
  • Stop-tailpieces are nice
  • Offset body, good for playing sat down(studio)
  • Maple neck and fingerboard(high-gloss)
  • Unknown .010 strings

Plugs into super champ as well, same specs as above. Pedals:

  • Blackstar HT Modulation tube pedal - Chorus, flanger etc.
  • Joyo Vintage Overdrive - Excellent Tube screamer copy.
  • T-Rex Tonebug Distortion - Gives me the extra sustain I need with a bolt-on maple fingerboard.
  • Korg Pitch Black polytuner.

It isn't all that complicated. Like my father always says, you have to hear the guitar in it. Jazz is supposed to be clean in my opinion, so that's a no-brainer. I like to keep it simple with the other guitar as well, so 3 effect pedals are enough. I like the chorus effects in the HT Mod. - Combined with the Starcaster, it sounds like Steve Kahn's rhythm guitar on "Peg". This setup really is a poor man's Carlton rig, but it works like a f*cking ace.

Pretty straightforward, dude. And you like to keep it simple, which is really nice. Sound advice from your dad too!

I just found out that my amps all have outs for recording. Are you serious? I've had them all these years and been micing like a mook, and the things have direct out lines. Ah well. Now I may record sh*t with good quality.

Ahahah, for realsies? Well, at least now your musical life will be easier.

I had a hell of a jam with my dad this afternoon. Smooth, clean and relaxed. My old man was busting out some really cool jazzy lines, too!

My updated OS doesn't work with my recording gear. F*ck.

Hahahah check this hilariously terrible attempt at a home-made sunburst finish on a VINTAGE LES PAUL JR

Here's a bad factory finish from Gibson:

Holy hell, that's a fail if I've ever seen one! Looks like an oversized Guitar Hero controller! :D But on a vintage Junior... that's a f*cking sin.

Nice tone indeed.

....for a single-coil

So I played the Starcaster some and it felt really, really off. I took it to my tech at 4Sound, who said it was beyond repair, as the bridge had been placed incorrectly from the factory. It's been sent to Sweden to be replaced, I.E, a brand new guitar :(

I'm not really happy about it because this was my first ever brand new guitar, and it's now been shipped off to be scrapped.

Sorry to hear that, man... Plain bad luck :( Does the warranty cover it completely, though?

No clue. Took it to my man from Latvia and he said he'd take care of it - He expects that it will not cost me a dime.

If I do get to pick, I want the burst:

I'm looking at the local 4Sound FB-page, and found my guitar in a pic from September 2013: (far right)

1186673_564287426941838_960238191_n.jpg?

Also saw a video from May 2013 where the Ibanez was visible. That's the good part about being a jazz guitarist in satan-guitar country; Nobody buys 'em, price gets WAY low, then you can haggle and get it even lower.

Man, that looks awesome in that finish!

I wish it went like that here. Everybody and their mother plays guitar or piano in Porto, meaning that the demand is high and the supply ends up being way overpriced. Thomann seems like a pretty good alternative, as the guitars are reasonably priced.

Yeah prices are stiff here as well, but not on jazz boxes =))

Gonna try to set up the nylon-string.

The Stagg? I played mine just yesterday. Got that Jobim tune down and started working on Antonio Lauro's Vals Venezolano no. 2. I noticed the action was quite comfortable, more so than my dad's Yamaha, though his sounds a lot better.

Yes. I like its naked face.

I also carved the fingerboard a little.

Pretty well. It isn't a brilliant guitar but with some adjustments the intonation is a lot better. I feel like making a version of "El Condor Pasa" featuring it and some more.... distorted guitar. Alas, what can a man do without his Starcaster?

(note: I have literally countless other guitars, but I want to downsize).

Mine needs some adjustments also. The intonation is a bit off and the tuners desperately need a replacement.

When does your new Starcaster arrive?

Again, no idea. Hopefully within few weeks. I'm in London next week, so that'll fly by. The week after that, my audition is the focal point. No rush.

This sh*t rustles my jimmies:

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/ug_news/ug_showdown_quarterfinals_brian_may_vs_jimmy_page.html

Look at all the "contestants". This is all some high-gain sh*t. The worst part is that one guy got downvoted all the way to hell for suggesting that these guitarists are not God personified. People are so f*cking stupid. All my money says Jimi Hendrix will win; An able blues guitarist, but not the greatest guitarist who ever lived. Where the f*ck is Lee Ritenour? Larry Carlton? Dean Parks? Steve Khan? Jay Graydon? Elliott Randall? Jon Herington? All of these are not exclusively jazz guitarists (Ritenour played on Pink Floyd's "The Wall", for example), yet go completely ignored.

Just bought myself a piece of sh*t DIY SG kit, for the lulz. And to learn how to finish a guitar.

Anyone got any experience with these DIY kits? They're clearly generica-junk, but definitely handy for understanding what goes where and how to put a guit together.

I personally don't have any first-hand experience with DIY Solid-body kits. PUs included?

What's your plan for the finish? Staining, poly, nitro, etc.
