Damn! Female singer?

Best of luck for your gig, man!

Yes, one of my absolute best friends:

1016384_487477298002619_947078254_n.jpg?

I posted a picture because in a few years, you'll know her name. She's going to be one of the greats, and you saw her here first. I'm not just saying that because we're friends, in fact, we got to know each other because I saw her sing once and was brought to tears - I had never before been moved to such an extent by a vocal performance, so I sought her out after the concert to tell her how f*cking amazing it was.

Thank you for the good wishes.

Go, Marwin! That's a wonderful story. I've never really met anyone in such a beautiful manner. I hope to see her as well as you make it to the top!

Thank you, although my prominence is mostly in the shadows. I'm going to be the next Ritenour or Carlton. This girl belongs on stage. An unfathomable clear voice, and a range of which people dare not dream.

There's this girl I know who's got a beautiful singing voice, but rarely sings. Odd, because she's not usually shy at all. I'm going to see if I can get her to sing with me sometime soon. Also, I was an atheist until I saw her ass :D

Man. I tried an L4 some time back:

5dfcfa3d-ed7a-4a8e-96d2-6cc64e22d23b.jpg

It has just... stuck with me. What a fantastic guitar. It is the only carved-top guitar which I may get, realistically speaking. It is essentially an ES-175, but with a carved top, nicer tailpiece an shiz, and the neck pickup mounted closer to the fret board - something which is of critical importance to me.

cons: Starting at 6,299

:S

e: Nvm, fell in love with the AF75 again.

f*ck, this guitar is good.

Beautiful guitar! But 6, 229€ is so damn expensive :/
The AF75 is great. Crisp, clean tone! Would love to play one sometime.

My biggest regret is not having bought a G&L Strat I tried once. That sh*t was incredible! Sustain for days, the tone was incredible (despite the crappy amp I was plugged into at the store) and the overall playability of it... Goddamn! I can only hope that I'll one day stumble upon another one at the same price :(

How much was it? My friends use Tylers, Suhrs, and Andersons. Personally, I don't use solid-bodies anymore. I let my dad have the US Cali Strat. Oddly enough, I only use solid-body basses.

If memory serves me right, it was 350€ or thereabouts. Suhrs are quite nicely built, though they feel a bit dependent on pedals to sound good. These days I wouldn't leave my Schecter for anything, though. I matured a lot with it, in terms of style and musicality. As Monte Montgomery puts it, my "six-string wooden friend" :)
Now I'm just saving up for a new one, possibly that Emperor I've had my eye on. Let's see how that goes :)

I found the backing track on youtube, hit record and played what came out. Mixed it in goldwave and uploaded it lol

Made a recording as well. This was literally our first time practicing the tune (Which gets super jazzy and difficult to play at 1:10

Ignore the intro, don't know what went on there. Enjoy the walking bass and outro. This version was written by me.

Holy sh*t, she is incredible! I noticed that you have a knack for some substitutions that I also use regularly. Killer outro, by the way!

Gonna try to get that chick I told you about to sing "Misty" with me live. I`ve written tons of variations on that but never have anyone to sing it :/ I need to start using Soundcloud as well.

Had the concert. After a deafening silence following the ending, I was hit in the face with a wall, a roaring, absolutely monstrous applause. I felt like a star. For the first time in my life, I didn't dread the stage. It was in fact, one of the best feelings I had ever had.

After that I stayed at the school and jammed with a buddy, who has an Anderson guitar. We got a kebab, and then rushed off as we were going to sing at the opening of a new school.

Nice day.

Yesterday:

Went to the aforementioned luthier's workshop for the first time. The guy was marvelous, and a cool guy. He was happy that at last there was a Norwegian with an interest in archtops, and invited me into his house. I tried a Jim Triggs carved-top with the luthier's own Charlie Christian-style pickup, a 1978(first year) Ibanez GB-10 (which he offered me for just a grand. Thinking about it), a 2004 Cinnamon burst Gibson ES-335, and a carved-top Höfner body with the luthier's own neck, with a gold bigsby. All fantatic guitars.Words fail me.

I was there because my super rich friend had some work done on his James Tyler Studio Elite(with mid-boost) and Ibanez prestige something something. He drove us there in his Alfa Romeo coupe, and we stopped for a snack and some milk before that. It was a fun experience.

Afterwards, I tried his guitars. Wow. What f*cking good guitars, and with an excellent setup as well. We jammed on some blues before the tubes in one of the amplifiers went out abruptly. Tried his Martin OM guitar. Meh.

That's awesome, man! So glad your gig went well :)

You're lucky as hell, bro! The guy sounds incredibly nice, and it was very kind of him to let you try his axes. Too bad about the amp, though :/ That James Tyler, how is it?

There's this barber next to my school who has a Porto blues/folk acoustic that I always see him playing when I pass by. I'm going to get my next haircut there just so I can ask him about it! :D

The Tyler is a great guitar, but not one for me. I don't much care for single-coil pickups, or solid-bodies. I don't understand why they call it the session player's ideal guitar, I'd rather have my Starcaster to be honest. It just felt like a really nice Stratocaster, nothing more.

I can relate, being a humbucker man myself. What's your go-to guitar nowadays?

It depends on the genre. I use the Starcaster as my "335". I like the idea of it. I like that it's just like me; a weird version of the standard. It's got massive humbuckers(words fail me, they really are huge), a bolt-on, strange f-holes, maple fretboard, and an offset body. Strange guitar, but quite versatile. I'm using it for a lot of rock and fusion. My only complaint would be that its sustain could be improved, but that's what you get with a bolt-on. No big problem though. The offset is fantastic. I never expected to enjoy it, but I do.

The AF75 is my Jazz-box. Fantastic at its job, especially now that I adjusted everything like a motherf*cker. Pickguard is back on, and it's sounding better than ever with some pickup height adjustments. I'm satisfied with the ACH1 HBs afterall, no need for '57s.

The Starcaster has (I'm assuming it's GHS) .010 strings on.

The AF75 has D'Addario XL Chrome Flatwounds .012-52 with a wound G.

I love the AF75 like a person loves another. I don't let people play it. Period. That guitar is absolutely irreplaceable to me.

The Starcaster has started growing on me quite a bit. At a rock practice, the Viola player tried it as I was showing the (talentless) pianist what do do. Without hesitation and without looking away from the claviature, I firmly said "Don't touch my guitar". That was when I realized that I had started caring quite a bit for the Starcaster as well. I love the sound I'm getting with it now.

Ahahah, I know what you mean, I rarely let people play my guitars, especially the Schecter. I'm so enamored of it. Okay, if it's someone I absolutely trust, I might (reluctantly) let them try it.

The Starcaster is a great guitar. That was a sweet deal you got with it. How did the dude react when you said that, though?

Well, it was a girl by the way, there was a complete silence in the room as I kept pointing at the claviature on the Steinway concert grand. I don't give a sh*t if I ruin the mood, I'm a professional. Leave my gear alone, and do your f*cking job. It's alright to have fun in between, but the rules are:

  1. Ask if you want to try something/make intrusive noise
  2. One person talks.
  3. Act professional and your age during practice and learning sessions.

I had a girl cry once. Jesus Christ on a cracker, what is this, the 4th grade? So it's sh*tty music and the band is terrible. I know that. You know that, vegetable lasagna knows it, but we're too old for this sh*t. How about we get sh*t done as quick as possible then use the free time to do whatever the hell we want to in stead?

I can't wait to start at the Conservatory, given that I'm accepted. Hopefully I'll be playing with dedicated people for once in my miserable life.

How f*cking hard is it to learn ONE f*ckING VERSE of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" in THREE f*ckING WEEKS?!?!?!?!?

The incompetence of some people staggers me.

She started crying, what the f*ck? Wow, strong overreaction...

I know how you feel, man. I want to gather some good musicians as well. Every time I try to jam with someone, it ends up being boring as hell. They just want to play pentatonics all day long, and every request we get is Metallica this, Nirvana that... For f*ck's sake. Can't wait to start college and meet some real players in Coimbra.

Just like you expect the common jazz-people to be. Tired-looking, overworked, hunched over, sleazily dressed, ungroomed, and reeking of coffee.

The luthier sent me a message today:

"Hey Marwin, if you want, you can have the GB for 1200 €,* and I'll drop the Gretsch trade :-)

Trond"

Unfortunately, I could never afford that within the foreseeable future, so I said that I'd love to, but can't afford to right now. Too bad, it's one of the first production models as well :(

Oh well. For now, I'll be keeping my eye on this Ibanez AF 125, for sale at 450 €*

48_779406209.jpg

Look at that finish, holy sh*t. Flamed wood binding on body, neck, headstock, and pickguard. What a fantastic piece of art.

*Exchange rate based on what money is worth in respective countries, which puts the rate at NOK10:EUR1, in stead of its actual rate.

That thing is beautiful, man! The finish is very inviting... I'm going to look up some demos of it to hear how it sounds.

Hmmm, coffee! Some classical teachers are like that as well at the local conservatory. Well, except for the outfit: dudes are always looking a million bucks in cravats, suits and stuff  That professor I told you about was one of the more down to earth people in that school. Plus, he was honest when he could have just ripped me off. Really cool guy.

Tomorrow afternoon I think I'm going to visit that barbershop after school and ask the barber about his guitar while I get my mane cut :D

Alright. Let me know if you find anything out.

Clip from the concert:

What the hell is with the reverb? My amp was completely dry and they were to add the reverb from the mix, but from my speakers it sounds like it was way too much. Opinion?

Sounds pretty good to me, man. A noticeable bit of reverb, yeah, but nothing to worry about as it doesn't detract from the overall sound. Pretty cool to see you play that outro lick live.

Turns out I came back home after school as it was raining heavily. Might meet up with some buddies on Monday (we have Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off because of Carnival) near school and take the chance to go there.

e: Working on an arrangement of this tune for guitar (I've posted it before, I think):

Harder to memorise than to actually play. Currently brushing up on it :)

Easy listening, dued.

I'm also working on writing music, except I'm not writing jazz atm.

Notice the vocals. That is a f*ckload of voices. I was inspired by "Peg".

Do you have an iOS device, MiD?

Yeah, it's a pretty relaxed tune, but it gets a bit tricky with the position shifts on the guitar. And those augmented chords are stretchy as hell :D

Holy sh*t, that is a lot of voices! "Peg" really is an inspiring song.

Do you have an iOS device, MiD?

Sadly, no, bro :/

Are you playing it "chord-melody"?

You should look for a 2nd-hand iPad. They go for next to nothing. Unless of course, there's an Android version of "iReal Pro". I'm using it, fantastic app.
