"I got 5 years in jail for fingering A minor" :D

ROFL G-STRING!!!!

Neat. I wouldn't have expected classical to be your passion, but I guess it makes sense. What sort of guitar?

Well, I think fusion or jazzy blues (à la Joe Pass) are my ultimate passions, but I've been thinking that I could back up my classical side with some academic discipline. After that, I'd love to get into a jazz institute or something of the sort. Sometimes I wonder if I should just ditch the classical studies and jump right into jazz... really tough choice, man :D
Spanish guitar( if that's what you mean) :)

Yes that is what I mean, although I am most curious about the name on the label ;)

I started out with classical guitar, but found it limiting in terms of jamming, playing with groups, etc. I then hopped on the single-coil blues train, eventually becoming interested in Jazz - à la Joe Pass and Yellowjackets as the two first years of my musical education went by. Currently on the last term on my 13th and last year in school(studying general music), said f*ck it, I'd rather be happy than have money, and sent in my application for improvisational jazz at the Institute of Music and Dance. 1 "Year study" - an introduction to studying performing music, 3 years Bachelor in Jazz Guitar, 2 years master in Jazz Guitar, 1 year pedagogical.

That's the plan as of today.

Oh, the one I play the most is a Yamaha (pretty reliable workhorse), but it's not with me at the moment—the one I have here is a 'meh' Stagg classical guitar that my dad got me shortly after I started playing. I mean, it's not bad for what it is, but...

That's pretty inspirational, man! I'd love to make a living out of playing/teaching music. I've always quite enjoyed music theory, even though most of people I know find it boring; it's like a little secret language :p Right now I'm dying to finish high school and get into the things I really love... I mean, lots of times in class I'll be jotting down chord progressions or chord-melody tunes to try out when I get home.

That's good to hear. Always appreciate true musicians out there.

I too have a Stagg nylon:

Use it for studio work, but the piezo isn't great to be honest.

That one looks pretty good, mate! How's the sound?

"Always appreciate true musicians out there."
Same here, man, which is why I was so happy to meet you! :) Lately I've been particularly inspired. Like, as soon as I wake up, all I can think about is playing all day! So, since I can't play in class, I just start preparing those little tunes to try out. The thing is that I don't usually have a jam partner (bro is usually out in the afternoon), so I have to stick with a looper :/

Know that feel. No one with whom I can jam.

The Stagg's sound isn't very good to start off with, but if you do the amp and built-in eq right, it sounds absolutely wonderful.

Yeah, man, there's a shortage of dedicated players :\ I just found out a chick from Psychology class used to play the double bass. Sadly, she quit it a few years ago... Two other chicks play the bassoon. I might just hook up with one of them. Nothing sexier than female musicians :p

Mine seemed to sound much better when I first got it, although that may have been my young ears fooling me.

The Norwegian word for Bassoon is "Fagott". That is all.

Same here! Our word for it is "fagote", which is weird considering it's a woodwind instrument and they're girls :D

Sadly I haven't had time to do much in the past few months, but maybe now I'll start to have some free time again.

Finally brushing up on chord substitutions again after neglecting comping/jazz playing in general for a few months (been too caught up in neo-classical wanking). Should be back up to speed in no time :D

What sort of subs ?

e: Oh probably the 'standard' substitute for functional harmonics

I've been working with both functional and non-functional harmonics. I've also noticed I'm enjoying tritone substitutions a lot more than I used to! I need a jam buddy badly, otherwise it gets stale without another player adding his touches. Bro, get on the next plane to Portugal, I'll pay for your ticket! :p

Yeah, Joe Pass's rendition of Misty came up on my playlist and just put me in the mood for it :D Later on I was coming up with lots of lines over a little I-VI-II-V vamp and had tons of fun with it. I figure I might write a tune and call it "No Substitutions!".
You know, when I get a job and some money, I might just visit Norway and see about that kebab as well as some jams!

Yes.

Here are some atonal chords of mine that sound great but are hard to improvise over

Tonic: Dm7

Bridge: G13 - Abm9 - Gbmaj9 - Amaj7(add2) - Bb13 - Bm7b7 - C13

back to tonic

Damn... I'm playing them in my head and I can see how they would be difficult to solo over. First thing I'll play tomorrow!

What's your usual approach to them?

funky, dorian at first but it's very rhapsodic in nature. Hard to get a red thread. Suitable for the more augmented scales, such as lochrian and phrygian modes.

Phrygian would probably be the dominant (Ha! ;) ) mode in my improv over those chords. Now I feel strangely tempted to go grab a guitar.

The melody written for the song (it's a funk tune I wrote) is chromatic down from G, but then a full tone from D to C to fit the chords.

Dued, may I hear some recordings using that guitar?

I found my old Washburn Falcon, played it. God, what a great, modern, clean sound. Forgot what a gem it is =)

Sorry it took so long to grt back to you lol

I forgot the guitar was drop C#

I'm just basically making noises like evh would sometimes except for a bit of eruption and in a darkened room(skid row)

When I grt a chance I'll do some riffs and stuff.

Also forgive the terrible recording, I recorded it on my Iphone lol

Edit:

Here's a few riffs

EVH 5150 50 watt combo

In the loop I have a TC electronic dreamscape and a MXR carbon copy.

My guitar runs through a TC polytune and a MXR smartgate.

TC is pretty good. My dad got me their Ditto Looper and it's served me well for around 2 years now; pretty straightforward as well.

Surprisingly, I don't have any TC gear. I use a Korg Pitchblack poly(same as Carlton ;) ), T-Rex dist, Joyo od, Blackstar valve mod.

I like Joyo a lot, actually. I've played with the Boss DS-1 and my dad's Marshall Shredmaster. For some reason, I could just never bring myself to buy the Boss (it was usually borrowed from guitar playing friends who didn't use it much).
