So, I just picked up Rocksmith for 360, as I've been wanting to learn to play guitar for quite a few years now, and figured that was the place to start as I've heard many good things about it.

Any of you guys have any tips for a person who's never even picked up a guitar before?

Aside from what others have said already, I'd say practice.

Practice every day. I spend around an hour or two per day mixing between random noodling on the guitar, playing a song or two, and practising some scales. Luckily, I love playing, so I haven't found it a chore.

If you have the passion, then put in the hours; it's rewarding. Really rewarding.

On another guitar related note...I really wish Rosewood Telecasters weren't so expensive. I know I'll get one someday...but the damn wood isn't getting any less rare!

Can anyone here play Master of Puppets using all downstrokes? I'm having quite a bit of trouble playing it cleanly even after 2 months confused.gif

I got me a uke.

The bastard won't stay in tune for more than 2 minutes.. I need to stretch the strings some more before I can play it without it driving me insane due to being out of tune. tounge.gif

i've been playing guitar 3 years, but i took a year break, i'd say scales, tuning and easy songs, but make sure the songs you learn are in the same tuning, i had hell changing from standard tuning for Wake Me Up When September Ends, and Drop D for Sugar We're Goin Down. i practice on average 6 hours a day, but i can play all day if the passion takes me. as others have said dont try harder stuff too early, and practice a song to death till you can play it without even trying. also check out a few tabs, it really depends on if you want to play lead or rhythym guitar, if it's rythym, chances are you'll have to hit 3 or 4 strings at a time, and if thats the case use your middle finger and rest it on the strings to make it sound like a dead note. make sure that your strings and guitar are in top condition, and always have a spare pick. you'll lose a lot of them. playing guitar is very rewarding, and very enjoyable, but expect a few injuries along the way. i think of it like sex, smooth is always best, fast and rough sounds terrible most times. hope i helped a little.

Deciding whether to get a Synyster Gates standard Schecter or the Custom, but I don't know if the Custom is worth it. Would it be worth going through the horrendous tuning trouble with the Floyd Roses on the Custom, or just get a different tremolo for the Standard?

I cant really take women instrumentalists seriously.

Feeling emasculated there, huh?

It's okay though, you make enough retarded statements for me to know there's likely even more people that can't take you seriously. smile.gif

Man what's your problem? put it in a pm or something. And no, I don't feel emasculated, I honestly can't take women instrumentalists seriously. I have no reason, I just don't.

for you other people: Happy new year!

Mr White0161

Quite honestly there are many great female guitarist. For example; Pat Benatar, Nancy Wilson/Ann Wilson, Jone Jet, Stevie Nicks... Those are all the ones I could think of. But non the less girls can play guitar. In-fact Jimmy Page was quoted saying that the band Heart are worthy enough to play his music. Note that the singer and lead guitar for that band is Ann Wilson and her sister Nancy.

I'm guessing everyone's prejudice is just an ego thing, I do understand that.

That makes absolutely no sense. Feel free to be a misogynist I guess, but gender has absolutely no impact on the musical abilities of the person. Is it because you think guitar and rock music is generally seen as a masculine thing? I'm seriously trying to understand your reasoning (or I guess, the lack thereof). There are plenty of women I'd feel comfortable saying are some of the best musicians in the world.

I was watching a cable channel over New Years Eve called The Audience Network, a couple; man and women from Mexico played acoustic guitar live from Guitar Center studios along with an interview, it was pretty neat, never seen that before, add to that their instrumental style, they were in the 1990s METAL scene and talked about that in the same way I feel about it, that universal ideal of METAL no matter where you go in the World, there's a metal scene where everyone relates much the same, no matter what your background, yet the music they did was rooted in Spanish, and extended to background music for hotels where they played live and for movie or TV soundtracks. I prefer male to female artists as well, just an odd thing basically, but I've no issues about who are great female artists, it's just that most don't play in male dominated genres for example. Far fewer then there should be.

An incomplete list is one video from YTube, but there are a lot a Mr. White said... Except Jone Jett??

More like JOAN Jett, and Lita Ford of the Runaways, there's also Fanny and Girlschool, but less instrumentalists then actual groups or artists

I was reaching for a list someone else put together, but perhaps more then obviously a MJ fan posting that ^?

Then, it ends... GREAT KAT!!!

Oh yeah that totally makes sense.

Wait, no it doesn't.

Unless maybe a female guitarist beat you up when you were little and it's just a repressed memory.

Yes I can, the trick is to just tough it out and not be a puss by alternate pick in it. Seems sloppy and unfocused when it's not down strokes, the real trick to it is not to tenses up in yur pick arm. Stay loose from the forearm to the elbow. If that's not challenging enuff try Blacken's intro riff all down strokes about the same difficulty but once u get it people wig out when u play at parties or meth dens really whatever yur into.

It's not uncommon, a lot of dudes feel threatened when a girl is way better than them at something.

Would you please stop being an asshole?

Why did I not take them seriously before I started playing?

Why don't I take those who are much worse than me seriously?

Incredible rebuttal.

Anyway, to each his own, like I said, it's not uncommon to be threatened by a member of the "weaker sex" excelling at something you enjoy.

You can argue it any way you'd like, but I won't be here to discuss it further, so have fun!

Quite honestly in my opinion it does not get better than this...

Murdoc is an insult...to humanity! hahaha (I know a Mod will advise me not to bait you, but you're hardly very respectable)

Still, in the interest of getting along,

Note which one of these I want to own-> Mr. Neal Moser's 10 string!!

Some of that Zeppelin on YouTube is lacking the high quality of their studio recordings, but the Knebworth video I'd heard was rejected, and many TV recordings were eschewed because of the lack of control over Zep's sound. They've been on the record about this, most of you Zeppelin fans should know

Are the EMG 81 and 85 Kerry King set worth the £160 ($247) they cost? At the moment my ESP MH100-QM has standard ESP LH-150 pickups? I want to buy either a Marshall amp (which I've tried and know sounds much better than my current Line 6 Spider IV) or a set of EMG pickups to get a proper metal sound.

Distortion; along with lots of reverb and gain on the amp's. I have the amp settings written down somewhere but I can't seem to find them. Also it's in DADGAD tuning, which is why it sounds a bit different.

No they are not, just buy each pickup 81/81 separate for $100 + tax. That afterburner is sh*t, just gives you a db boost which you can do with a Boss SD-1 or an Ibeenhad tubescreamer.

I paid $300 for a NON ENDORSED EMG 81/85 set, the 81 is the better pickup, but you only need one of those. EMGs are what I call One Trick Ponys like the Marshall amps, they offer a distinct sound and no where near what I call variety or subtle differences.

So, just one near your bridge will do the deed. David Gilmour uses EMG single coils for his live guitars, due to their better volume imaging.

I'd be going with Seymour Duncan in the future

As far as girls on guitar, I stumbled upon this tribute act AeroChix!

To add to the funny comments earlier about female guitarists, I can tell they aren't especially talented but who cares?! haha
