My early 60's thang.

Broke a string recently, but haven't replaced it, since the guitar needs a little work anyway.

Just need some more time and money.

That's cool, but it's not all that related to Jimi and his guitars, Lest not to forget, Jimi played Fender Strats but also Gibson Flying Vs! I'd heard Mick Mars of Motley Crue say he was "at home on anything with 6 strings". I found this looking up favorite tunes, and it is impressive, make no mistake. Girls, Start playing guitar and show us how it's done! ha ha

I tired playing a 7string the other day and I'll tell you I seriously did not like it. For those of you who don't know what is a 7string and or heard of what a 7string is it's a normal guitar with an extra low B string. This extra string is placed over the 6th, real pain in the ass to get used too I'll say that much. But who am I to judge? some people quite enjoy it. Not my personal cup of tea Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

SAME! I prefer the 9 gauge and a lot of players do as well, professionals I mean

Yeah, Jimmy Page for example. I use the same Picks and Strings him. After playing with both of those together I could understand why he'd choose to play with those. The picks have a very nice grip on them and are quite flexible and last, the stings are also quite comfortable as well, low to the neck and easy to bend. Also have a real nice ring to them (in my opinion).

  • 3 weeks later...

The book I bought was a special issue from Guitar Player, combined old interviews with Jimi Hendrix through to newish ones at the time, Van Halen and Randy Rhoad's mom, Deloris

Covered all my favorite guitar players, basically, HEAVY METAL was in in the title, included Leslie West, Ted Nugent and the Schenker brothers, I know Jimmy Page as well

They talked about strings and plectrums as well as their gear of choice, amps and guitars, how they got their start, it was a glorious book, but I got it packed away and can't recall the title.

My proud BC RICH collection, posted in Gen Chat before, or was it here? Anyway, the one on the left is all I got for Bich guitars, since the other two were loaned for cash and then lost out on reclaiming them from the pawn shops. The middle is a Handmade Class Axe, verified. The right one is a California handmade from 1997, was the one I had autographed and was also verified, as well as having the headstock break twice, and repaired. The left one was repaired once from a headstock break, the photo is before that happened.

Still got the 80s NJ, original series from Japan, Negoya. It's got full actives, and Varitone, as well as neck thru construction on all these guitars!

One last for the moment, I love Joe Walsh, great guy. And yet, comments are about how he's too drunk to perform, which is hog wash...back in the day, he never appeared to fall into Michael Schenker's trap of Drinking and Plucking

Anyone here use a portable electric system? Ever a pignose, battery amp, portable acoustic or amp built in style guitars? I saw one at the Goodwill some months back, I would love to toy with one of those things, but they seemingly forgot to price the item!!??

They're cool for dickin with, a used one should run bout 50-100 bucks. As for battery amps same deal basically cool for jammin on, sh*t some people like Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top have used them live and on records. I'd say 50-100 for a new one or 50-75 used.

I picked up a no-name 9-volt battery amp from the Goodwill, it's not all that bad, but always wanted to use a Pignose since they've been around forever. Some of you know Marshall has a mini Half stack and a portable combo or head/cab miniature, but it seemingly costs too much for what it offers in my opin

Have you tried direct to amp? I unearthed some Joe Walsh instructional I posted in Gen Chat's video thread, it was taking Joe out of context for a humorous slant, but I was more interested in all he had to say, one of which is that the fewer effects is a preferred approach. I keep one stomp pedal I couldn't sell and a Wah Wah. that's really it. I had the POD and a GFX-1 Tube rack at one point, and I prefer racks for the fancy effect combos

I tried it, and I understand why you would do that, but its not for me. When I do gigs, I like to have something to step on smile.gif just having my sound possibilities at my feet.

@Springsteen_fan- Nice pedalboard, I don't use many effects personally. Mostly a light reverb and distortion. And occasionally delay.

So, I just picked up Rocksmith for 360, as I've been wanting to learn to play guitar for quite a few years now, and figured that was the place to start as I've heard many good things about it.

Any of you guys have any tips for a person who's never even picked up a guitar before?

Don't try to play things that are far beyond your skill level because you will most likely just get frustrated and quit. Get your basics down first like how to play open chords and how to strum/pick properly.

Not much else really, check out lots of youtube vids and magazines and have fun!

Kinda agree but kinda don't, learn the basics but try harder sh*t as well, get frustrated its good for you she's u gots a passion for the thing. Just have as much fun as you can and take peoples advice on technique etc half heartedly. P.S. don't rely on the video game as a end all be all, dependin how far you want to take it nothin' beats a good teacher or jam buddy.

All those videos and things on Youtube are great and all but I still think it is far better to have a real life teacher. Learning to play songs you like is always good but your missing out on so much if you ignore the fact of learning the actual theory behind the guitar. Not to discredit Rocksmith but if I were you I'd seek an actual teacher, that is if you are truly serious about playing guitar and want to be good at it.

Food for thought cool.gif

My dad has a ukelele I just picked up and tuned myself, however, I know 6 string tuning really, standard, and that's what I play in, HOWEVER, YouTube is a great tool, don't sell it short, besides visually offering any angle the instructor so chooses, you can get text accompaniment that allows TAB to also be displayed, much like song lyrics are done as well

YouTube is a great tool especially for learnin lead licks. A teachers great never really used one myself, learned theory, counter theory on my own by learnin other people's music and having jam sessions with other musician friends. You really never stop learnin with music so a teacher can really only show you the basics they can never teach you songwriting composition etc. I'd find a teacher or someone who already knows to play have them show u the basics for a few months then take it from there.

I think the Deans and Dimes took off as many paid their respects to the lost guitar legend. Color me surprised that both Rudolf Schenker and Michael Schenker joined the Dean endorsers ... That Razorback thing Dean made, a Dime exlusive model, not bad!? I wonder how much input he put into that guitar. EVH put a lot of his say into this exclusive Wolfgangs for example, as did Randy Rhoads, but Rhoads models seem to vary a bit.

Yours is definitely a winner!

All you need do is look at some of the women guitarists on YouTube to feel like a total loser!

I cant really take women instrumentalists seriously..
