I have a killer selection of awesome sounding live drum loops many of which were

recorded at Abbey Road, Steve Vai's studio, the Mothership and other famous recording studios.

Work great in iTunes, Best if FL Studios and not so hot in WMP. Just PM me or something.

Cant really help with backing tracks... I'm a riff machine myself.

Ooh, there's a guitaring 'competition' going on? tounge.gif

I could take part, although I'm thinking I probably suck compared to a lot of you. Especially when it comes to improvisation. I also haven't played very much recently.. I think I will now!

If it intruiges anyone, I have a load of guitaring videos on Youtube (some of them are *really* old and terrible tounge.gif): http://www.youtube.com/user/Gnobular#p/a

One thing must be set on the table - not one of us are good! lol.gif Let's have some fun, kiddos. I'll try to slip some humour into my entries.

Start by suggesting backing tracks. Blues shuffle, funk, metal and any others you find suitable.

I found a website with a few backing tracks available to download HERE So we could use one or 2 of those?

I definately think some form of blues shuffle should be first. It's the easiest style to explore a bit and have fun with.

I think my faves at the moment would probably be Mark Tremonti, Jon Butler, Newton faulkner and Kyle Gass. They are all good and aren't just power chord/speed=good players(exept maybe Mark tounge.gif)

Actually yea Kyle Gass is a pretty underrated player.

So what's happening with this comp?

Not sure what's happening with the guitar comp, I'm investing a new amp soon so I'll be ready as soon as I get that.. Also I could use some recommendations about what practice amps are best, I was thinking of getting a Line 6 Spider but I've heard that they're pretty unreliable. My budget is a little under £100 and I mostly play/experiment with stoner, doom metal, etc.

Oh and I'll need to be able to record into my sound card too.

I agree. I'm using a Roland Micro Cube (I think I got it for £70ish), and despite being only 2 watts it can go pretty loud and sounds very good. It can also run off of batteries if you wanted tounge.gif. It's "R-Fier" setting (the heaviest) sounds good for playing metal.

There's also the Cube 15, which is similarly priced. There are many positive reviews about it.

Maybe search Youtube for these amps? You'll probably find some good demonstration videos. Or there's always my Youtube videos in which I use the Micro Cube biggrin.gif

Micro Cube is the sh1t for hundred euros. Buy it for your first amp. And a yamaha pacifica.

My peavey valveking 112 don't work and I have checked the fuse and the tubes but it wont work, so its time for a new amp.

or

+ a 2x12 cab.

I have a Fender Strat+Satchurator+G-Lab Wah+MXR Delay and I play blues, funk and classic rock and I think Oranges are the way to go. Marshall type distortion for half the price. the AD30HTC has a rectifier tube which sounds extremely cool.

Orange amps *drools* I'd go for the AD30. You have a nice set up man. I wish I had a bit more cash to upgrade mine. It's a crime playing good guitars through a Marshall mg100dfx lol

Actually yea Kyle Gass is a pretty underrated player.

So what's happening with this comp?

Well, Sorry for disapearing guys. This guitar competition has kinda gone tits up for me, 2 broken fingers and my recording computer is f*cking f*cked... As I was the person who originally proposed the idea for this competition, and can no longer participate, I will run it. ANY ONE WHO WANTS TO ENTER PLEASE SEND ME A PM. Please, also can I have 2 volunteers (preferably guitar players who aren't taking place in this competition) to help me judge the entrants...

Thank you

I was helping a friends band shift their gear after a gig, put the last cab in the van and the driver pushed the slider door shut on my hand... Bad times

sh*t, that sounds painful. Have a speedy recovery.

Thanks smile.gif, the doctors said the breaks wheren't too bad. i'm keeping myself busy. I bought a Kramer Focus 111s in sunburst. £55.00 and theyre throwing in a Park Marshall practice amp, f*cking bargain icon14.gif

If anyone wants, I'll regularly update this topic with updates and pictures of the modifications.

I think this topic is awesome, to talk to like minded people about guitars is cool smile.gif

Definately do post updates, as you said this topic is awesome and it would suck for it to get buried again. I was given a strat body recently by my mates girlfriend, she found it in the attic. I'd love to build it up into a beast of a guitar but money is a bit tight at the moment. But hey I'll build it up slow and post updates here too.

I can't imagine how painful that must have been dude, hope it heals up soon.

Well, the plan for the modifications are:

Building a Digitech Whammy into the body

Wilkinson or Bareknuckle Humbucking Pickups

Stainless Steel Frets

Built in Fuzz pedal

Hopefully, this thing is gunna be a real beast.

I like the built in effects. Instead of the whammy, I'd plant an analogue delay, perhaps. I reckon I would need a foot to control the whammy.

Building in the Whammy is gunna be more difficult than you would think. A local Luthier is doing it for just the cost of the pedal, no labour. Its purely experimental. Im not keeping the pedal part.

Basically, its just gunna look like a whammy bar sticking out of the guitar.

I figured it would be something like this. What I meant is, a whammy is something I would like to control with my foot, not mounted on the guitar. Hence why I even associated the analogue delay, to pitch bend and make noises with.

I have the DS-1 pedal and the DS-2 built into a multi effects and they are brilliant little pedals.

Ibanez Blazer (1995 reissue) that's untouched. Was given to me by a colleague. I need to get it properly set up as it sounds rather gash. I can't play anything yet. Had a few lessons but I'm struggling like f*ck becasue it sounds so f*cking terrible its off putting. Looking for a local tech guy to sort it out same day but it's a pain in the arse.

The amp is a Peavey Vypyr 30. Can't comment on it much other than its really loud, has so many modelling settings I can't fully fathom and until I know my guitar is properly in tune can't get a decent sound out of it.

I love that Ibanez, it's the same age as my Squier Strat but mine has been abused by previous owners. Let us know how it sounds when it's set-up.

I'll get some pics of my well loved strat up eventually.

Already posted in the "What instrument do you play?" topic but ill still post a few new images of my Fender Stratocaster that I bought last year. It's a great guitar, I hardly have to tune it and the humbucker creates an awesome sound for rock music. The stickers I have on some of the pictures are my band's name. I think the guitar is now out of production, it's a pretty rare limited edition version in Graffiti Yellow with a carbon pickguard. The different in brightness is caused by using two different camera's, the last two pictures show the actual color in RL.

That's my Marshall amp in the back by the way, I don't use it too much though. I rather play on my Roland Cube 30X because it seems better for practicing while the Marshall is better for a real live show. I also use some KORG equipment, a tuner and a pedal (BOSS ME-20).

That an awesome strat, I love the colour and pick guard.

I love the originality of my Blazer, but I really fancy modding it. I would probably get a junk guitar for that instead.

Found a nice plugin for Audacity for those who record directly into their soundcard.

Clicky, it gives it a pretty decent tube amp effect for those who (like me) lack a decent amp.

Demo: First part is without any effects, second is with the clean effect and the last one is the full on grunge, sounds crackly because I had the volume too high and couldn't be bothered tweaking it down.
