The New Guitar Topic

At one point I had a thread for BC Rich guitars I think was placed in General Chat...but not sure now. I only got around to scanning and hosting some older pics online now. This is still my current collection of BC Riches I bought and own.

The red one was the first, the white one, the last.... or the Ironbird... damn, not sure now! I think it was the white Bich. The NJ is the Ironbird and it is a classic, still! It is also neck thru construction with varitone rewired up. The red Bich is made in Hesperia, CA in 1987 and was authenticated. The black one was made in Warren NJ in the early 1990s.

The white one is a fan made one with no markings, that's my verdict. Very interesting axe off eBay. Only the red one was bought locally. It also has everything remounted. The white one is down for a refurbishing.

@Phusion- I was not too anamored by it's playability because it's a thin body acoustic and it was easy to handle and a joy to look at, the sound was too thin for my taste and the fretting seemed harder then most acoustics I'd worked with. I started on a Stella our family owned and the neck joint was never repaired. It was as bad as one could ever imagine. PURE SH*T of a guitar.

I own a BC Rich Bronze Series Warlock. It really isn't my sort of thing and doesn't give me the sound I want, so I'm leaving it in the shed in the meantime, until I can actually be bothered to dig it out and sell it. Not to mention, it's ugly as sin, plus its shape doesn't do me any favours.

I do however own an Ibanez RG550, which I'm hoping to get pics up of later.

Those things play like a dream. I've been eyeing up a black one with the mirror pickguard recently.

Hope you don't mean me now tounge.gif True though. I have a friend who got his Dad to buy him a 900 euro Ibanez and he's absolute bollox. The fact he got his Dad to buy it for him was icing on the cake....son of a b*tch

I have a Black Gretsch Electromatic that I rarely play.

It's a beautiful guitar but the body is just too damn big. I used to play it a lot, but I never took the time to really learn to play the right way, so I got tired of my skill not progressing and it's been sitting in my room for a while now.

Yeah, it virtually requires no effort at all to play them. I own an old 80's version myself, not the 20th anniversary edition you'll see most guys sporting today.

I could understand if is hes in a band, but i dont think you need 6 guitars for "variety", unless im wrong.

Well correct me if I'm wrong, but I wasn't aware of any set rule that states you should only own one guitar. I myself own a fair few because I like a bit of diversity; different guitars produce different sounds and I play a whole range of genres of music so I enjoy using my other guitars that "fit" the sound more of whatever I'm playing.

So yes, theoretically, you are wrong.

1. Yes I am in a band.

2. I think you'l find that every guitar serves a different purpose ie. nylon strung, steel strung, single coil, humbucker, tuning etc...

I don't subscribe to either theory.

You can own AS MANY guitars as you want, and you SHOULD play them, but there's no requirement that you be good at it. I personally own a number of them. I used to buy them yearly. I still wouldn't mind adding more, and variety is part of it... lust for guitars is another! I find them all a challenge to play well and it's not easy, no doubt there, but it can ALWAY be FUN to pick one up and play however you want on them!!! cool.gifbiggrin.gif

I can't recommend anything specific, but the brands you should look for include Marshall, Laney, Line 6. They're all really decent, but I guess it depends on what sound you're aiming for. Even for just a practice amp, you should still want a half-decent sound from it.

Mmm, you might want to steer away from the MG series though as all I hear is bad things about them. Line 6 is okay and Orange make some pretty solid starter amps.

You should also look into Vox and Roland, The ADvt series and the Cube's are f*cking brilliant.

I'd personally suggest the Vox Valvetronix series, I've found it the most versatile practice amp I've played. They're perfectly good for home use, particularly the 15 and 30 watt versions, though you'll be pushing it if you wanted to use them for anything live. I managed to pick up an AD30 for £110, so they're pretty affordable too.

I own a AD15VT too, and I love it. They are good just for about everything, especially for cleans and overdrive tones (the JCM800 preset sounds sick). If you know how to EQ well you can get just any tone you want, even metal if you're into that stuff.

Line 6

I suggest you stay away from Spider III amps too, I've played through Spider III amps and they are disappointing. icon13.gif

My original POD got PAWNed years back now, but I'd buy one of the new Line 6 products.... I liked the POD a lot. Most of these suffer from the same TYPE of sound all the way through. The most impressive products are those that can offer up the best variety from the same electronics!

I also wanted to mention for my earliest electric, I was looking at an angular Hondo. I knew the brand was not respected but the shape did it for me. I never did get one, but I wound up with a classic BCR Ironbird and the Washburn HM-20V, both very similar.

I've got the AD50VT and its definately got some balls, all the amp models are great and most of the effects are pretty dandy except flanger.

Also auto-wah sounds horrible, so I'll probably have to invest in a wah pedal soon. But other then those two small problems they are really rocking.

I've yet to test my Washburn Wah. I can't find two instrument cables and I know I bought them long ago, however.... just seem to be packed away I guess! I just uploaded two more Bich shots from my BCR collection, will edit those here shortly.

Number one, the WHITE Mystery Bich, this one has no KNOWN history. Looks like a fan made project with odd hole placement. It is being reworked and hopefully sent to Neal Moser himself for some finishing.

If anyone's a fan of Hendrix or SRV, I suggest you have a look at this video of a band I saw in a bar on Friday night. Guitar wankery abound, although it doesn't feature the violin bow usage that I saw him do, nor the 10 minute long drum solo which included stickless playing and a flaming cymbal. Guitarist and drummer are only 19 too mad.gif

Sigh, I've got the choice of blowing my money on some effects or putting it towards a new guitar. Tough choice.

Depends what kind of music you want to play I suppose. Do you like your effects, or would you rather put it towards a new guitar? How much have you got to spend?

Hmm... I like music that creates a soundscape, and you can't create a soundscape with a single guitar. I'm leaning towards more of the effects as I have a decent guitar right now. What would you suggest to do in my case?

Well, if you feel you've got a good enough guitar, look into some effects. I wouldn't go overboard as you'll just drown the tone. After looking around I found the Ibanez LF7 Pedal:

http://www.mveducation.com/invt/50338/

It claims to create wide "soundscapes of far out tones" and "change a sterile digital sound into a warm tube tone". All depends on your shipping issues and price limit, but I'm sure a similar one can be found in the land of Oz.

I'll check it out on Guitar.com.au

I was also considering getting a new EHX Muff, as I've got the Russian Pi but I'm pretty sure its broken. confused.gif

I'm going to have to be careful not to slip into the trap as I've no idea what any of that is. I'm just going to say be sure to know what your doing as some effects conflict. I've had really bad feedback and a generally awful sound as a result. When it comes to mixing a distortion pedal with a soundscape pedal, I've no idea, so I can't comment.
