when im downloading torrents, even if its got tons of seeders my dl ranges from 500bytes to 60kb/sec, usually sticking around 5kb/sec, and rarely going up high, then back down. I got a static ip addy, my ports are forwarded, im using port 60996 and i got no idea why my dl speeds are so slow and jump so much.

You guessed wrong. Just for your information, "torrents" isn't the appropriate name, it's called a "bittorrent".

One thing that helps is to choke your upload speed on you BT client to just around 5Kb less that what your full upload speed is.

Dunno if it's just me, but when I leave BT to have full access to my upload, it chokes my internet something fierce.

This forum is for all things computer related. Technical questions about hardware, software, upgrades, building your own PC, etc... But as always, no warez.

Unless, of course, you're legally downloading something.

/sarcasm

Anyways, w/ the regular bittorrent, you can set the preferred dl and upl speeds... Dunno if you've done that.

The key to discussing the BitTorrent protocol without discussing warez, is to STOP BRINGING IT UP AND ASSOCIATING THE TWO. For the love of God...

I'll go ahead and agree with Tornado Rex's suggestion. Any Linux torrent should be able to go up and over 100 kB/s, so test with one of those first. It may be that your router/firewall needs specific rules to be entered and what not, and it would be pretty unnecessary to dig into that if the problem is you just have some lame torrent files.

The first thing that comes to mind, other than the fact you probably just have some bad torrent files, is the possibility that your router/firewall may need extra rules, even if you've forwarded the ports. In my router, I have to not only forward the ports, and establish a rule to allow the traffic through as well.

QUOTE (K^2) ...not only is it legal for you to go around with a concealed penis, it requires absolutely no registration!

You could also try one of the open office torrents to see what speeds you get.

Now that is warez dontgetit.gif
