I noticed that a lot of the old topics w/ tons of replies were being locked, and I had an idea about what to do with them, rather than just letting them drift down the pages... How about creating a sub-forum in "The Network" forum for all of these popular topics? That way all of these really popular topics could be accessible without searching for them, just by clicking a few times. What do you think? Edmachine Posted February 20, 2007 Share Posted February 20, 2007 They were closed because the posts made stress for the server and the GTAF Staff closed and/or deleted them to remove the stress. And if they would be put in The Network it would make stress for the server. That is why the topics were closed. It is being occasionally done. And if they would be put in The Network it would make stress for the server. Here is why! For one, the first reason why they are closing them is because more posts to load on the server that can be viewed by the public. Second, when the public can view the topic its hard on the server. That's obviously not even an issue since most of the topics had "feel free to make a new topic" posted in them. People were actually encouraged to remake the topics since they were only locked because of their size and the impact it was having on the board. It's not like he's talking about a forum for locked spam/advertising topics, some of the locked topics were quite useful and popular. That said, I don't think this is needed at all. The old topics still exist in their locked form (for now at least), and if the topic is timely or important in any way it's likely that there is a new version of it made after the older one was locked.
