hitandmiss
All right I'm going to provide some system specs and the solutions I've tried. Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 Gigabyte 8KNXP Pentium 4 [email protected] Ghz Hercules Ati Radeon 9800xt 256mb Catalyst suit 7.1 Audigy Soundblaster 2 Zs 4x 256 RAM in dual channel mode (Total: 1GB) Solutions tried: i.) running it at 800x600x16 ii.) changing the gta-vc.exe file to run as Windows 98/Me and 2000 iii.) uninstalling and reinstalling ati display drivers iv.) deleting the .set file I've not yet successfully ran Vice City once. Primary Issue is crashing to desktop. It can happen during cut-scenes and when I get to control Tommy in game world. Usually a True Vector window pops up and prompts me to send the error report to ati. At this point, any further recommendations to get Vice City working on my PC is greatly appreciated. Spuds725
I split off your post so we don't confuse your problem and solutions with the other thread. I play on PS2 so don't know alot about PC version... I would try some basic things to try and improve your PC performance. 1. Check and defrag your hard drive-- 2. Are your drivers the most recent available (not just reinstalls of the old ones) 3. First disable your internet connection-- then turn off your antivirus and firewall software. 4. Turn off all the useless stuff that programs add so their application starts 1/2 a second faster--- most will show up on your taskbar.... others you can stop from starting in the first place but you will have to go into your msconfig to do so... some items are hard to identify (if you don't know something is, disable each one, one at a time and note the program you disabled-- restart the PC after each time you do disable something that you don't know what it is in case it is critical)... I know there are some programs out there that will clean this stuff up for you-- I don't know of any off hand.... it could just be something running in the background is causing some hardware conflict.... after doing all this stuff, delete the set file again (doesn't hurt to do this) See if this does anything... hitandmiss
I got some bad news. I tried all of those: defrag HDD; turning off firewalls and anti virus and it still does not work. I even tried to uninstall CCC pack, in which one of the components is FFdshow. I really like the higher resolution in Vice City PC and mouse + keyboard combo, so it will be really sweet if I can get VC running on my PC. Is there any .ini file for VC I can tweak and experiment with? Edited February 19, 2007 by hitandmiss
