Tornado Rex
I know this topic has been made, I didn't feel like searching/bumping. Basically I'm thinking about getting it, so I have a few questions. First, which one should I get? I know they are up to "Nightfall" now. So should I get that, or go with one of the older ones? How does upgrading work? Do I have to buy a new $50 game every time they release an expansion, or is there some kind of like $20 if you already own the game upgrade thing. How often do they release expansions? Am I looking at dropping another $50 every year, 3 months, etc? Second(?), is it any good? I'm a broke college student so $50 can buy me a lot of other stuff. I know some people say it's better than WoW, some people say it's worse. I'm looking for opinions from people who have played both here. My main concern is time devotion. Can I play it for maybe a couple hours a few nights a week and still have fun, or is it like WoW where you need to devote 8 hours a day to it to go anywhere once you get high level. Is it tedious grinding like WOW or is there plenty of missions/quests/whatever to do. How is PVP? And finally, how many people play? Is there a lot of you around here? What are the world populations like? Am I going to have trouble finding groups, or won't that matter because I can solo a lot (I like to just solo sometimes). I know there's a sh*tton of questions in there, and I can probably get a lot of them answered by digging harder than I have, but I'm on my way to work so I figured I'd throw this up in hopes of some replies when I get home. In advance, thanks all for your time and of course I don't expect all the questions answered, I'm more or less just looking for a general "what it's about" answer as I can't really find anything specific anywhere I look. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
BroDan
I beta tested Guild Wars and liked it but never bought it. Last year I decided I would buy it and started with Nightfall, it costs you the same price for every expansion, they are stand alone but once you have all of them your character can swap between all the areas there is. It's free to pay once you've bought it but it's a completely different type of MMORPG compared to the likes of WoW. The level cap is 20 and you can reach that within a week if you play enough. Once you hit 20 you can either keep getting XP to count towards Skill Points or swap secondary classes and try something new. Also at 20 you can start PvPing which is what Guild Wars was made for, the PvP is awesome once you get used to it. It's worth the money definately but don't expect it to be as long lasting as some other games. Still alive, lurking in the shadows. Tornado Rex
Well I went ahead and got factions. I'm liking it so far. I have a level 10 Ranger. I'm getting the hang of the game, but I've only been playing it a couple days so I'm still pretty lost. I joined some random guild because some dude sent me a tell asking me to I've pretty much been just running around with mercs because I hate going into groups when I know nothing about the game. So far I'm really liking it though. I'm thinking about going down and grabbing Prophecies from somewhere. I'd like to get Nightfall too, but that I won't pick up until I'm more into the game and actually know wtf I'm doing. Anyway, is anyone still playing Factions? I'd like to get some in-game friends besides my loyal mercs ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~

Tornado Rex
I'm planning to buy some of the other ones shortly so i'll make sure Factions is my next one. Awesome I'm level 16 and getting the hang of the game more. f*ck some of these quests are hard. Anyway, add me, in game name is "Calina Mohogann". I'm a Ranger/Elementalist. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
Tornado Rex
Ok so what the f*ck guys. I know at least one person here has this game. Someone join up and add me because I'm sick of henchies and my guild is f*cking useless ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
TOGA62
seems like you got sick of this game rather quick eh? I was looking for a new MMO myself. I have wow, but not having any fun with it much anymore. Social: TOGA62 PS3: balltowellamp
Tornado Rex
seems like you got sick of this game rather quick eh? What makes you say that? I've been playing it since I got it. Got my toon to level 20 and now working on "perfecting" her I guess you could say. I was looking for a new MMO myself. I have wow, but not having any fun with it much anymore. Honestly, I'd say grab one of the GW games. Not because they're great. Not because they can replace WoW. Rather because they're free to play. That's why I ended up getting it. I have a job, school, and a girlfriend. I don't have time for 6 hour raids in WoW (nor the real urge to do them). Basically the way I looked at it was I felt like I had to play WoW a certain amount a month or I just wasn't getting my money's worth. With Guild Wars, I can play whenever I want, however often I want because I don't have a monthly fee. My chars will always be there, my account will always be active. Anyway, you see where I'm going with this. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~

I was looking at the new vanguard but it kinda looks meh to me. I think im going to go read about this one now. Free to play. Which means you buy the game and that's it. You play online for free, whenever, wherever. Warrior, Elementalist, Monk, Ranger, Mesmer, Necromancer, Ritualist, or Assassin. To get a Mesmer you need to have Nightfall and to get Assassin and Ritualist you need to have Factions. So there's not a ton of classes, but I'd say they got the main ones pretty well sorted. What's nice is each game is separate. That meaning, you don't need to own all three to play. However, if you do choose to own all three (or two) you can "move" your character between the games. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
Just Phil
Mesmer is a core profession, you can make one with any of the campaigns. The only Nightfall specific professions are the Dervish and Paragon. Anyways, i usually play as "Just Phil" if anyone wants to add me.

fox09
Bah, I miss this game. I had level 20 R/W and a 15 Necro/MO. But then, I got bored, stopped playing, and sold my account to a friend. He sold all my good loot, and deleted my character(+400,000 EXP). I think I'll either buy it again, or see if I can mooch it back.
Tornado Rex
Question. Mainly because I'm too lazy to search. What's the point of getting exp after level 20? Like my bar filled up once, and then just reset. I didn't notice getting anything for it, but I may not have been looking in the right spot. Also, I'm heading on in a bit, so throw me a whisper if any of you hop on. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
Just Phil
You get a skill point each time you max your exp bar after level 20, which can be used to buy skills from skill trainers.
TOGA62
I mentioned this game to a co-worker and he said he has it. He doesn't like it though. I'm going to see if I can get him to maybe lend me his account and game since he doesnt play it. Maybe I can get on and try it out...
