morsolo
Hello, I have always admired modeling for games, and at one state I started to model some cars for NFS: HS, but sadly, I don't have the time anymore for it... (not that I was any good at it...) I was just wondering, what is involved with editing the wheels of a car? Default In-Game car or Downloaded car... Is there a way to get the car to use different wheels than it comes with? (without going to TF, WAA or LLCo.) I'm not too bothered by it...it's just, some downloads are EXCELLENT models, but have crap wheel textures. It would be great if I could edit then myself, pretty much just the texture The perfect example are JVT's cars. He designs some of the best I've seen, however the wheel textures are a letdown Even better, is there a way to get the car/s to have wheels from Transfender/Wheel Arch/Loco Low by DEFAULT? Like driving with them? Not having to go get them? Any ideas? - Morsolo Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/267396-wheel-editing/ Share on other sites
DexX
if its a custom model, the wheel texture is almost certainly in the txd for the car (if not, its using images from the vehicle.txd file, in models/generic folder (ignore the "wheels.txd" there; it isn't used by SA). In SA, the wheel model is a part of the car model, it is not stored externally as it was in previous GTA's. So short of "upgrading" the wheel somehow, whether it be via Modshop, trainer, or scm hack, there is no "external" way to change the wheel, short of importing the car model, and editing the wheel model directly. morsolo
Oh great...Looks like I need to get back into modeling... How would one go about opening a car .dff and replacing the wheel entries with other wheel entries from, say, Ducatti's "The Wheel Deal" mod? (For personal use, NOT distributing...) How? What programs? etc. Thanks - Morsolo Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/267396-wheel-editing/#findComment-4061850 Share on other sites
Gouveia
Well, 3DMax, GMax and Zmodeler are the most used tools for doing that, but some models can't be opened because they're locked....
