My receivers blow but I think my QB's and RB's aren't bad. I think I have a good shot to make the postseason.

I'm a little concerned about my WR3-4 situation, and what to do about my backup RB. I have Ladell Betts, who should get lots of carries with Portis hurt and probably getting hurt again during the season, plus he's a really good backup. I accidentally took Kevin Jones because I looked away too long and got stuck with him as my pick...but if he comes back he could be halfway decent. But there's really nobody else to pick from so I guess I'll keep him....for now. My QB, RB1, WR1, and all my defensive positions are f*cking STACKED though.

Damn, I was at practice. Missed the damn draft again, there is some decent talent on the team but I don't trust either Kitna or Leftwich leading it whatsthat.gif

The Lions are under Mike Martz now, so maybe his new offense will breathe some late life into Kitna, especially since he has three effective receivers this year.

I'm really not sure what to do about my RB2 situation. I have Betts which is ok, but Kevin Jones might miss up to 6 weeks and there's nobody in FA.

I would keep an eye on Dominic Rhodes. Yes he is not going to get all of the carries during the season, but in preseason he is competing with LaMont Jordan to see who will get most of the carries in the regular season. So I'd watch him.

If not him, maybe, just maybe take a look at Chicago's Adrian Peterson, they said he might take about 5 carries per game this season, and he will get playing time if Cedric Benson were to go down with an injury.

Also, Lorenzo Booker is said to be a possible third down back for Miami, and he will most likely split carries with Ronnie Brown. The Dolphins also like him as a return specialist. So I'd look at him as well.

Correll Buckhalter as well. They said that though he doesn't start he's usually good for 30-50 yards a game coming off of the bench for Westbrook. They said he's good to have if you have no other option, however, he is an injury risk.

I hope this helps, I would at least take a look at them if I were you. You said you need a runningback option, so there are a few that I think could be of some help.

Don't count on it, my friend. wink.gif Portis is healing up and fit to bang out big yards behind that colossal O-line....I hope. By the way...I liked that Brandon Marshall pick, you got to him first...so I opted for the "hit or miss" Matt Jones.

Toymachine, you sly bastard, you had me sweating on a few picks too man...nice job.

TDP, Runey and 40...you guys all stuck out to me as the stronger teams...and semi-worthy adversaries. biggrin.gif

So long as Portis or Witten don't *gasp* go down with serious injuries, I think I'm in good shape all around.

The reason I assumed Portis may not be fully healthy all year was from notes I'd read about him on Rotoworld.

I looked at maybe Michael Bennett, Correll Buckhalter, and Lorenzo Booker perhaps as backups, but I may stick it out with Betts for a bit just because he's such a solid backup.

My team ended up being pretty stout considering I didn't follow traditional drafting rules and only had one RB for the first half of the draft. I think I may make up for some points by having a RIDICULOUS defense (Adalius Thomas, Asante Samuel, Brian Urlacher, Ravens D) and a nice selection of WR/TE. We'll have to see. I am also betting on a breakout season for Addai since he's the feature back. Without him I have no hope.

Someone told me at the draft Torry Holt was injured, any truth to this? I tried searching for it but couldn't find anything.

Yeah that was me. He's not releasing very well and can't run at full speed. They said he might miss a couple of games or, if not that, he'd play below his ability this season. But hey, he's still Torry f*ckin Holt.

Ok, the Oakland Radiers acquired Donovin Darius earlier this offseason. This move was considered to be a good move not only by most people on this site, but by a number of analysts on t.v. Now, with teams having to cut their rosters down to 53 players many people were cut from their teams. On NFL Total Access I saw some of the more notable players to be cut, but the one that caught my eye was, Donovin Darius.

Either he didn't fit well, or he was not in shape, what happened, I don't know. All I know is they got him this offseason, the defense was supposed to have added another good player to the roster, they were to have improved upon last season, and then, they cut him.

The Raiders, when they actually get a good player into camp they let him go afterwards.

Denver is showing interest with Simeon Rice.

Rice is older now, and he's no longer a force in the run game, but he can still be very effective in pass-rushing situations. He signed with Denver today. This move, along with the addition of veteran Sam Adams, certainly fortifies their D-line. Throw in the trade that landed them Dre Bly and the free agent acquisition of Travis Henry and Denver may be a bona fide contender this year.

Just one thing though...who'll be replacing Al Wilson at MLB?

I'm not happy with Jacksonville cutting Leftwich. He's got a great arm and could be successful in a system tailored to his skills, so I'm sure he'll find work somewhere.

Denver will miss Al Wilson's leadership but I think it's an opportunity for D.J. Williams to step up as the new leader. Also I think with Dre Bly covering the other half of the field with Champ, they may have the best corner duo in football. Cutler has a plus arm and just needs to learn patience and he will tear it up.

I still believe in San Diego, and Norv Turner just basically has to keep the Chargers driving straight ahead and the team will almost do the work for him. They have the best dispersion of talent in the league I think, and are hungry as f*ck for some postseason success.

DJ Williams. He's an awesome line backer. He should've beaten out Johnathen Vilma for Defensive rookie of the year a few years ago. He shall take over where its been left off. icon14.gif

Gotcha. I know Williams...he's a speedster, and a fine linebacker. So Williams and Ian Gold return, but who's the other backer? Jarvis Moss...or will they have him playing DE like he did at Florida? Either way, on paper, the D looks to be a formidable unit that was improved all around this offseason. Their secondary, for sure, is top tier. Bailey, Lynch, Bly and Ferguson...nice.

40, I'm with you on Leftwich. I've loved that guy since I saw his O-lineman carrying him up to the line off scrimmage when he played at Marshall. He was hurt badly during that game...but he endured it and walked through fire to lead his team to victory. Memorable stuff. As far as his roller coaster ride in Jacksonville, consider his recent receivers...Matt Jones, Reggie Williams and Ernest Wilford...not the sharpest wideouts in the game. What's next though...Minnesota? Atlanta? One thing is for sure...Jon Gruden will, at least, bring him in for a physical.

Don't forget about Pick 'Em

@ AG - I read today that Baltimore and Oakland are also interested in Leftwich. I like the possibility of him going to the Ravens to back up McNair.

It seems like the 49ers are everyone's sexy pick for the AFC West this year. I like the young nucleus of talent they have on both sides of the ball this year. They got Darrell Jackson to give them a badly needed true #1 receiver, and I think Frank Gore will be able to stay healthy despite what critics say. Also Patrick Willis at linebacker should have a solid rookie season in Mike Nolan's system.

Looks like Jeremiah Trotter signed with the Bucs today. He could team up with Derrick Brooks and Cato June to make a solid LB core. Throw in the additions of CB Phillip Buchannon, DE Kevin Carter, Rookie DE Gaines Adams, T Luke Petitgout and Jeff Garcia...I don't know what the hell to expect. Something tells me they'll end up in the gutter of the South again.

I heard about Leftwich...and if anything were to happen to McNair, Leftwich could do well in Baltimore behind a huge O-line and a serious commitment to run like the Ravens posess.

About the NFC West, I don't know...St. Louis could be the bully in that division. But agreed on the Niners offseason moves. They added Jackson, Ashley Lelie, CB Nate Clements, LB Tully Banta-Cain from New England, S Michael Lewis. I'm anxious to see Willis get some timeAnd Frank Gore is big action...Big. He's an absolute stud and I can't wait to see him this Monday. Plus he has my boy Larry Allen blocking for him. I bet it takes a few weeks to become cohesive together as it always does with new guys coming in to start. Once they get rolling though...the Niners might be tough.

I was blown away when Philly dropped Jeremiah Trotter like dead weight without blinking. He has health concerns and has lost a step due to it, but he's still effective and can bring some leadership. Philip Buchanon is a bust man, as we drafted him here in Houston and quickly found out he wasn't up to snuff. He's a decent kick/punt return guy though. I think Gaines Adams will crush babies with his boot. That guy is a stud.

As for St. Louis, they have a ton of weapons on offense. The Greatest Show On Turf isn't what it used to be, but they can still air it out all day behind a solid running effort from Stephen Jackson. However, they're basically a barren wasteland on defense.

Hear that. He was a late first round pick, no? Right out of Miami, I thought he and Dunta Robinson would have done well together. Didn't pan out, but I think Tampa will slot him in as their nickel...and it'd be in their best interests to keep him attached to Rhonde Barber's hip. Hopefully the guy learns a thing or two.

So 40, you live in Houston...are you a Cowboys fan or a Texans fan?

As for the Rams, I'd agree that their secondary is pitiful. But I think they added a few solid guys to their roster in Adam Carriker and free agent signing James Hall from Detroit. Pisa Tinoisamoa is a bull and Will Witherspoon and Chris Draft should be more than adequate at the other LB spots. I do think they'll make a strong push for that division title.

Also fellas, I read that the Raiders were preparing to announce Josh McCown as their opening-day starter. Obscure move, no?

Alright, boys. The season opener is upon us...and I've got wood just thinking about it. biggrin.gif

What I'm going to do, and feel free to do the same, is try to predict the record of my favorite team...which happens to be the perpetually cursed Cincinnati Bengals. You can give us a game description, or not. I have to be in class in an hour, plus I'm painfully long-winded when talking about Cincy...so I'll spare you the details. OK...here we go...

Week 1- Bengals over Ravens, 17-10.

Week 2- @ Cleveland, Bengals over Browns, 24-10.

Week 3- @ Seattle, Bengals over Seahawks, 31-28.

Week 4- Patriots over Bengals, 31-14.

Bye Week-

Week 6- @ Kansas City, Bengals over Chiefs, 21-20.

Week 7- Bengals over Jets, 38-21

Week 8- Steelers over Bengals, 17-10

Week 9- @ Buffalo, Bengals over Bills, 34-14

Week 10- @ Baltimore, Ravens over Bengals, 27-17

Week 11- Bengals over Cardinals, 31-21

Week 12- Bengals over Titans, 24-10

Week 13- @ Pittsburgh, Bengals over Steelers 31-20

Week 14- Rams over Bengals, 21-20

Week 15- @ San Francisco, Niners over Bengals 27-24

Week 16- Bengals over Browns, 24-12

Week 17- @ Miami, Bengals over Dolphins, 28-20

This'll give us a final regular season record of 11-5 which should get us in into the playoffs. Then they'll surely f*ck up and garner more ammunition for my bastard friends to throw my way. Either way, gentleman, it's been a long and arduous offseason...but it is finally opening day...and as the saying goes..."We're all undefeated again". BOOM!

I grew up in northeast Texas, so I'm Cowboys all the way. I follow the Texans of course, and it doesn't really matter since they're in different conferences and hardly play. But I'm annually a fan of the Cowboys while I don't really care if the Texans suck. If they get better I'll be happy though.

If Culpepper is healthy, there is no argument that can be made to claim McCown is a better quarterback.
