Do you think I'd lke Vice City?

Recommended Posts

GTA SA is the only game in the series that I've played. I think it's a great game because there are so many different things to do and so much to explore.

Do you guys think that if I got Vice City I'd be disappointed because it would seem like a big step back from GTA SA, or does it offer a similar amount of gaming fun?

GTA SA is the only game in the series that I've played.

You need to play everything else now. I just played GTAIII this week (just beat the storyline like an hour ago) and it's a ton of fun. You can live without the features.

You definitely won't regret buying Vice City. The city is remarkable, I love the Miami setting and the 80's feel. The music is great as well and complements the city. And yes, its storyline is better than that of San Andreas, though not as long as. It lacks some features that San Andreas has, such as swimming, but it's still an excellent game.

Go for it. icon14.gif

You should also try GTA3 if you have the time and money, it's my favorite of all GTA games.

The storyline is much greater than that of San Andreas

Yes, that too. Both GTAIII and Vice City have a much better storyline than San Andreas. But I guess that is just opinion.

True, true

GTA III had everything you could ever want from GTA, except Swimming.

And motorbikes, and diving out of cars... You can live without motorbikes, but diving out of cars... That's essential. But, it did/does add an interesting challenge to the game.

Don't forget Liberty City Stories and the soon to be released (on PS2) VC stories...

The only thing I missed when playing VC after SA was the swimming (when you fall in the water)-- VC has a shorter story, but a fair amount of side missions.

Stunting in VC is much better then SA-- it is rather flat though..

There are some perks of SA over VC and GTA3 as far as added functions and a longer story line, but the main thing that you may miss is the extensive game environment as far as the over-all map area. I really enjoyed the wide open space that SA offered. But that's all just a matter of opinion. In the end I think that you'll enjoy VC and 3 even though you can't swim in either or ride bikes in GTA3. They all have their own appeal so I'd say go for it. rampage_ani.gif
Thanks everybody for the good word on Vice City. I'll see if I can find it for a nice price.

Ebay and Amazon.com rock

For games, I suggest amazon. Thats where I bought Vice and SA, used, for about 20 bucks (with shipping), for both of them.

I just won an auction for Vice City and GTA 3. I guess I won't be seeing the outside world for a while.

Good luck; there are always new things to discover. I've had VC for a few years (just picked it up a month ago after a year long absence), and I'm still finding new things...

I'd say SA is clearly the superior GTA game so far.

The abilities to swim and climb over walls alone coupled with the size and variety of the map adds a whole other dimension to the game and so many more ways to, for example, run from the cops.

And the ability to move around while in a crouched stance and roll while aming your weapons makes shootouts much more dynamic.

Of course compared to GTA 3 there's also the fact that you can shoot out tires, shoot people through car windshields and jump out of speeding cars, which are also highly important upgrades which add both realism and variation.

The only disadvantage SA has compared to the other two games is of course the fact that you can't shoot peoples limbs off with the highly entertaining blood-effects that vice city and GTA 3 has.

I'm not sure why they removed this, possibly to please certain influential groups in America, but it's clearly a step down.

This and the ridiculously overpowered weapons like the chaingun makes vice city perhaps a better game to just stand around and shoot people in, it's a lot easier to get a high wanted level in VC and also to escape it.

Of course i'd recommend anyone who enjoyed SA to get the other two games as well, they may seem a bit cheap by comparison, but they're a lot of fun.

The-Exploited

You will like it, you should play all of them (GTA III, Vice City, Liberty City Stories, and soon Vice City Stories) if you're used to the controls in San Andreas it will be weird at first playing Vice City, but it's just for like a minute or two roaming around to get the feel of it. I really liked the soundtracks in Vice City, most than San Andreas and GTA III. It's really a good game.

Cheers

I appreciate everyone's input. Thanks!

Vice City and GTA 3 arrived in the mail a couple of days ago (damn slow media mail $*@^%@^!!!) and I've had a chance to get into Vice City a bit. I haven't looked at the maps or read the tourist guide or anything. I'm going in blind, just as I did with GTA SA, and I'm enjoying myself so far. It's fun to cruise around a completely unknown world.

The rampage feature is cool. Darkness is a too dark. Would it kill them to have better street lights in a city? The controls...well...I'm still adjusting.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you there.

Vice City was one of the brightest GTA's ever made to date. Bringhter than SA, even.

Brightest car colors, vibrant, with beautiful clear skies, instead of SA's orange lighting.

It's the best GTA city ever.

Sure during the day, the streets might be a bit dark at night though.

Makes you crash sometimes if you're not used to the map.

Also if you think vice city is too dark, just wait til you start GTA 3.

Ha.

Yes, the colors are vibrant and saturated. But when it's night, it's like a sea of black in some places, causing me to have to walk around blindly, only knowing an obstacle is in front of me because Tommy suddenly stops moving.

In one of the missions I had to go inside a house, and go upstairs. First off, the house was filled with guys shooting at Tommy, but I couldn't even see the guys, or the stairs. I had to shoot randomly all over the place and then walk around randomly until finding the stairs.

That's too much darkness, in my opinion.

Sounds like your monitor...

I can see great in the dark and inside the buildings...

i agree..vice city and liberty city were great storylines than that of san andreas..i think vice city is ton of fun..

i've play it a few years..but i cant forget because it's so useful for me and i can do anything else in that beautiful city--miami!

and there're more crews in the san andreas .i can do different things in los angels san fransciso and las vegas...i could find different kinds of jobs in that big city and i could do different things for american people in that ..

My monitor is just fine. The only piece of software that has any issues with darkness is Vice City. If my monitor had a problem, it wouldn't show up only when running one particular game.

And in case anyone is wondering, yes I did set the Brightness option to maximum.

Another thing I've noticed is that from certain viewing angles, entire walls disappear, no matter what the lighting is like. I can see through them, but can't walk through them. Then I move the view a bit and suddenly a wall is there.

  • 3 weeks later...

When i played VC after San An, it was cool but weird for some reason i like the graphics of GTA 3 and VC better then San An, and the damage to the cars in VC and III are way better fenders fall off, and the accidents in VC are way better. The weapons in VC are awesome, like hammers, cleavers etc. The music is way better then in San An some good ol' 80's I Want To Rock by Twisted Sisters it is good 'diffrent'. Well this is just my opinion
