Yeah, it's a bit strange that they did that, because coverage doesn't start until 14th March (our time). It must go by warm up games, because overnight Bermuda lost to the Bangers, who chased 206 in 37 overs.

Brett Lee made the best ever ODI team for Australia, and so did Symmo, over Dean Jones, Simon O'Donnell and people of their liking. It's a bit unnassuring when two of the players in Australia's best ever are unavailable for the World Cup.

What do we all think of Super 14? Just two or three years ago it was all about Peter Hewat scoring intercept tries and amazing plays from more than 22 metres out by most teams. Now it is just a defensively dominated, ridiculous, penalty kick shootout. I think they should drop field goals to one point and penalties to 2 points, solely because now if you get a penalty anywhere in opposition half, almost regardless of the game situtation, the captain points to the posts. It's ridiculous.

If I'm going to watch a form of rugby, it won't be Super 14.

I thought Symmo took the only all rounder spot.

What an example tounge.gif

I am so looking forward to the world cup right about now. It is going to be so tense and evenly contested (I hope)

Simon Goodwin has been shaken about.

I didn't realise how much he had betted, because for some reason (yeah, I know exactly why) the media here focused on that guy in Melbourne who only bet 5 bucks.

Its actually only $20,000 since half is a suspended sentencing. He would be an absolute idiot to it again since it would mean another 20K and being booted from the AFL. I guess this sort of thing is to send a message to the players that you really need to stick to the rules. Not easy considering they change every year to take on new 'interpretations'. confused.gif

EDIT: Brisbane looked pretty good against the Doggies last night. It will be interesting to see if they spend another year down the bottom or start to crawl their way back up.

Big pile of sh*t landed on the Adelaide Oval today and sucked Jason Gillespie in. At least that is the impression I have been getting with all the radio banter in the last few hours, and reading about it in the newspaper. Images and all.

Port lost - strangely I don't care.

Essendon won - strangely I do.

He hasn't been offered a contract with the Southern Redbacks next season. He'll probably go to another state and haul some ass for 3 or 4 years and we'll have egg on our faces.

Because its limited over matches, better teams like South Africa and Australia could possibly score 500 against teams like Bermuda and some of the other countries like that. If it were a test match we'd probably declare and ensure a victory with days to spare (ala England Ashes 06-07). With a limited overs match you can't really declare. The only thing to do would be smack the ball around until your time is up.

No way, 500 runs. That is just incomprehensible. That's just a dream innings, not a game of cricket. That's the most ludicrous thing ever. But as it says, Twenty20 has made players see that it isn't impossible to keep up a run rate of about 12 if you are good enough.

They talk of smaller boundaries and bigger bats, which brings to my attention something I heard about Brian Lara a few weeks ago. He had an over that went: 6,6,6,4,6,6. This was against Sri Lanka, on a big ground, playing to the fences for boundaries, and the 4 landed a foot short of the fence. He is really the 2nd player to hit 6 6's, because of that fact. But keep in mind that Garry Sobers hit them all over the fence.

What are the grounds like for the world cup though? If you have a Gilly or a Symmo trying to go for 6's against a bowling attack which of 6 steps below the standard that you're used to you will hit it for 6 or 4 more times then not.

I wouldn't doubt that 400 can be score often, but 500 remains to be seen.

That over by Lara sounds like mine from Cricket 2007.

Well small grounds + big bats + incredibly confident batsmen + Twenty20 culture + sh*t minnows + flat tracks = massive scores potentially above 500.

If you think about it another way, it is *only* 10 r.p.o.

Its entirely possible in this day to get 2 sixes of each over if the bowling attack is very poor compared to the strength of the batting side.

Well the amount of minnows in this comp compared to 2003, there are more opportunities for stronger nations to take it to them.

Also, bear in mind that one of the minnows from 2003 was surprise packet Kenya. This time around, there is Holland, Bermuda, Scotland, Ireland and Canada.

Although...

Ouch!

The warm-up match between Aus and Eng is on at 12:15am EDT. Will that be the time that most (if not all) matches will be starting?

Man, one of their bowlers is 127 kilos, and a cop by trade.

Too many minnows in this comp, methinks.

At least it gives them the opportunity to compete. Most of those teams probably have no intention on winning even 1 match, but being allowed to compete makes it a dream for them. Its the thought that counts.

Aussies won by 106 against Zimbabwe. Apparently most of the Aussies didn't play all that well, getting themselves out basically. Sir Viv Richards has written off Australia's chances of winning the World Cup though. Not that his opinion matters though.

Btw, anyone notice Sydney FC beat that Asian team? Pretty surprising actually.

Wow, pretty amazing. This competition seems to go forever though. Some games aren't played for months. Even Sydneys next game isn't for a few weeks.

Crap, even Adelaide could have salvaged a draw they weren't morons.

I tell you what, it is probably due to them needing to streamline schedules. I am surprised they get representatives from all member countries, seriously. From Saudi Arabia to Australia, it is a rucken huge confederation.

Yeah, it is big. But things like the UEFA Cup and that are spread over a whole season, making teams play as many as 3 games a week.

That goal by Steve Corica was a f*cking beauty. If there was ever a way for a team to make a bang in their countries first appearance at a tournament, it was that goal, it was just amazing.

Tim Cahill said he and Lucas Neill are going to come over and play in the A-League soon enough.

@ Jayza's 'Only 10 runs' comment: Yeah, that's the way that batsmen are seeing it these days. 10 runs doesn't seem like much nowadays, as you see teams constantly getting to around 7 runs an over. But how long can records like this continue to be broken. In 50 years, they will be saying 'It's only 20 runs an over'.

There will probably be some sort of physical limit we'll reach eventually. You can't just keep going until every over is a 36 run over, unless they move the boundaries to within a 30cm circle around the batsman or something so that even a block shot will be six.

Kind of like with swimming or athletics records. There's no way athletes will ever break that "magical" 0.000 second barrier into negative time - it's just physically impossible.

He's still a prick.

Yeah, "said" being the operative and key word. sad.gif As much as I'd like to see them (as long as they're in the Jets, of course), I can't see it happening. That said, the A-League is still awesome and still growing in awesomeness.

@ Physical barrier: Yeah, but if, for example, Australia played a team comprised of eleven Mick Lewises (and a twelfth in case one got injured), we'd be getting a run rate of more than 36 simply because of the wides he bowls. That, and he sucks so much that Punter'd be able to get seven sixes off an over. Just because.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Neill over here next season. West Ham will be relegated, he'll use his escape clause, and then who'll hire him? He kinda f*cked his career by going there.
