Hey guys, and welcome to the Australian Sports topic. Each week me, Storm., Mr Leone, Fuzzy Juzzy and Chalk will be updating you on info from all three with a Top 8 Table from NRL and AFL, along with weekly scores, whilst keeping you up to date with the latest Aussie Test Match scores. If you want to help, PM me, Storm., Mr Leone, Fuzzy Juzzy or Chalkstar2188 and inform us so, as we would love to be able to have one in charge of each code, and maybe eventually we could have a full review on each match, if we get enough help. Aussie Sports
Did a few minor updates as I re-made the topic. Still going to make a few major changes to add something in for the cricket (about the world cup) and rugby areas. Anyone feel free to suggest etc what we should include. Chalk
The Aussies have been slaughtered early in the Chappell-Hadlee trophy by Shane Bond. He picked up 2 early wickets as we are 2/22 or something off the first 6-7 overs. Why would be rest all of our players when we really would want some form going into the world cup. The selectors have made quite a few mistakes in the Chapell-Hadlee and World Cup selections. Chalk
Thats the other part of the stuff I have to edit. The who does what jobs etc. I see that Storm and MrLeone are hardly on GTAF posting anymore so I'll send them a PM to see how they feel about it. EDIT: Just watching a few overs and it seemed the pitch is one for the bowlers. A lot seems to happen on the bounce. We're 3/51 after 21 overs today. Unless we win 2 of these 3 matches, South Africa with be number 1 in the world for ODI going into the World Cup. Jay
You never know how good a batting performance is until both teams have batted. We could still win by 100 runs, you never know. If we lose this series, we lose the top ranking to South Africa. Yikes. Chalk
Losing the top spot to RSA because we lost like 5 matches would suck, especially when a few of them weren't on own home soil. Thats where the rankings can be a bit weird, seeing as though South Africa can win them against 'easier' teams and we have to play teams with more on the line, so to speak. EDIT: We made 148. NZ should be able to chase that down pretty comfortably, although it depends on how the bowlers for the Aussies go on the pitch. EDIT2: I thought some of the Aussie/Pommy commentators were biased, but listening to one or two before was just shocking. Mafia Drive Gunner
For the first time in more than 30 years of ODI Cricket, Australia have been defeated by 10 wickets. A poor showing really. Also the first time in 22 years New Zealand have put on 100 for the 1st wicket against Australia. That was poor. Shane Bond was a real killer, with 5/23. That's amazing. The worst bit about it is that we didn't have the run rate to compete, and even if you are bowled out, in the 49th over, 200 should be the least you expect. Well, South Africa did recently thrash Pakistan who are ranked 3rd in ODIs, but that was in South Africa. I don't really understand how the rankings work either. Pretty embarassing performance by Australia today. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/267374-aussie-sports-topic/#findComment-4053646 Share on other sites
Justin
Yeah, the selectors have themselves to thank for that one, and whatever happens in the World Cup. It's times like these you need Minties I really feel like giving away my support for the game. We were talking about it at school, no-one has any idea why the hell Stuey Clark isn't being picked, and why the hell Shane Watson is. Chalk
We could always arrange for Watson to suffer an injury, therefore a need for him to be replaced. Maybe then the selectors will choose Stuart Clark. Otherwise, rinse and repeat. Justin
I can see it now: GTAForums.com rallies hit-men to correct selection travesty! Lee's injured. If he's unavailable, surely Clark will be drafted in. ..... This is a dark day for Jets fans all across Newcastle. Milton has knocked back an offer to remain with the club, choosing instead to move back to Columbia. I'm going to miss the abundance of long black wigs and white headbands at EnergyAustralia Stadium. Jay
that was in South Africa. It is like physically impossible for them to score under 300 there. It'll be different going into this comp as an underdog. Haha. What we need now is a hero. Or two. Chalk
Lee said that he's going to play through the pain if it means making it to the world cup. With any luck the selectors put in Clark with any chance that they get. I actually think it would be good for the Aussies to lose the world cup. It will show the selectors what a big mistake they have made. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/267374-aussie-sports-topic/#findComment-4055354 Share on other sites
Mafia Drive Gunner
Yeah, what a bastard. This is the same bloke who said just 4 weeks ago that he loved this city and didn't want to uproot his young family again anytime soon. He was a great player, a real drawcard, and I loved watching him play. Oh well, Paul Okon is going to play on anyways, lets just hope he doesn't overstay his welcome. The only good thing to come out of Milt's rejection is that we get to see Steve Eagleton get more playing time, not having to swap and turn with Milt. Eagleton is by far my favourite player to watch. Justin
Yeah, what a bastard. Well I wouldn't go that far... Funnily enough, Eagleton is my least favourite Jets player to watch, and I'm hardly a fan of Okon either. Milton was the life of the party, though. Disappointing, but I'm looking forward to see who the powers that be recruit to fill the rather large boots he's left. I hear they're keeping the trend of searching South America. Mafia Drive Gunner
Yeah, well I hope they do, that's where you find so many cult heroes and great footballers. Australia are 1/28 after 7 overs. Not as bad as last time, let's hope they can consolidate for cricket's sake. Hayden has blasted all 16 of his runs from fours to start off. Haddin at the crease with him. Jaques got 3. Who can blame the man though? He gets one shot it seems to play for Australia, and he always blows it because there is so much pressure placed on that one innings. I would like to see some patience demonstrated by the selectors, as they have done beforehand with Michael Clarke in the batsman's ranks, and Stuart Clark, Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait in the bowling ranks. Jay
Jaques failed again. I really want him to fire in the final game, I like the cut of his jib (oh man, did I say that?) 3/152 after 30. Rule of thumb is you aim to double your score after 30, so we're looking good with Hussbags and Hodge haulin'. The grand final for the A-League is on today. If Adelaide wins, I am going to bury my head in the sand because the wops in this city will go apesh*t. And I had one hour of sleep last night. Yay for spontaneous drinking games. Chalk
Hussey just made his century with a few big sixes. Excellent performance by the stand in captain. We're 3/246 after about 41 overs. Looking to make it between 280 and 300. Hopefully we can hold off the Kiwi's and make the third game something good to watch. EDIT: Hussey out for 105. Jay
And I had one hour of sleep last night. Yay for spontaneous drinking games. Okay I slept from midday to 4:30 What the f*ck? Can't we defend 300+ (or 400+) anymore? If you concede 300 or more runs against someone, it may as well be us. For f*cksake.
