New build fully complete:

ts7hg0n.jpeg

9800X3D + Thermalright PS120 RGB

32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000 Mhz

Still using my 3080, I might see what happens when the secondhand 40 series goes down in price.

I'm looking for a 19" CRT, but finding one (for a reasonable price) is tough

Finally managed to grab one. The setup looks a whole lot better now

I wansn't entirely happy with the previous PC specs, so for the time being I've swapped the internals for Phenom II X4 960T + 8600GTS that I had laying around. I'll probably switch back to something more retro, when I figure out proper hardware for a 98/XP dual boot PC.

Looks like a real 2000 PC setup. Love it. If I had more space I would get something like this too. I had the speakers back then.

Hey how much did that end up costing? I've been looking for a crt monitor for a while and a couple of those philips popped up but they're both in the 200-350 aud range

I paid ~€59 for this Philips 109B50 bundled with a malfunctioning Pentium 4 office PC (I suspect faulty motherboard). I think I should've haggled a bit, but 19" CRTs are rare in my area and I really like how it looks, so it's okay I guess.

Damn that's a steal compared to the robbery here

It seemed a bit steep to me, though admittedly that was the lowest offer I've seen in a while, so I bit the bullet. Most other offers for 19" were around ~€80-100 and up. 15" and 17" CRTs can be still found over here (Poland) for cheap (~€10-20), though it might require a bit of patience.

Unfortunately there don't seem to be many CRT PC monitors left. I dunno if people dumped them the moment LCDs became affordable, or what. The CRT TVs are still relatively common, though these are mostly newer sets from 2000s.

Yea there's still some cheap ones over here but they're usually on the muuuuch older side or have something wrong with them. It's at least not as bad as the tv market where people want mono/rf only/damaged generic units for 100+

Edit: I found one! it's not really a fancy brand or model but it works, just has a few quirks that I think are aging components. (Sometimes has a "wobble" before the image zooms back in and returns to normal, red line going up the right edge which moves when you adjust the horizontal position) 50 dollars from a tip shop.

I found one!

Same setup as my last post. I've just now upgraded to a big ol' TV:

I was slightly worried my desk would be a little too small, being 25" in depth, but yeah, I wouldn't go any bigger than a 42" unless I was wall mounting or going for a sofa setup.

When I was a kid a 42" TV was gigantic, now it doesn't even look silly as a computer monitor.

I've got a 55" old as f*ck Samsung in the living room. It must be like 720p, and it makes this thing look huge because of the thin bezels.

Within a week, it's took me to adjust my eyes to it, and now it feels tiny.
