Got the cable management done on my setup, and a few other bits and bobs. Getting there.

Iconic Formula 1 livery. JPS.               Matching custom keyboard       Still moving things around.

I worked my magic and came up with this, I couldn't decide what direction I wanted the palms to face so I did both sides instead

I'm disappointed with the Toolbar through as it doesn't blend in well with this colour or any other. I want to see if I can get a windows 7 like theme for Windows 10 so I could try and make it fit in better (Windows 7 also has better transparency settings)

Got the home server/HTPC together.

Supermicro X7DBi

2x Intel Xeon L5420

2x HP XW Workstation CPU coolers with Cooler Master silent fans

11GB ECC FB DDR2

250GB Fujitsu boot drive

2x 2TB WD Green storage drives

Corsair RM450 80+ Gold PSU

Corsair Air 540

Swapping out the mixed capacity memory for 8x 4GB sticks tomorrow if it shows up.

USB 3.0 and LSI RAID Controller on the way, probably going to pick up an 8500GT or something as the onboard only has VGA and wont support 1920x1080 output.

It's quiet but not as quiet as I'd hoped. I might pick up some inline resistors for the case and CPU fans. PSU fan doesn't kick on until there's a decent load on the system.

The Enhanced Extended ATX board fills the 540 a bit more than the 540 was intended to be filled, but it fits so all is well.

I was originally planning on finding an old HP workstation case for this build, but I started looking around at new cases just to see what my options were. Kept coming back to the Air 540 and liked it more every time I saw it. I wish there was support for more 3.5" drives out of the box but looks like it'll be extremely easy to mount an old HDD cage over the PSU if/when I get to the point of needing the space. To be fair though, with recent trends and the intended usage of the case, I can see why 3.5" storage space wasn't a concern.

The only other minor annoyance is that with the SFF-8087 cable I'll be using for the WD greens, I'll have to remove the hot swap connectors and just run cables straight to them. I can get one with male SATA instead of female, but it's not worth paying four times as much for the cable. But again, the only reason this is an issue is because I'm not using it as it was intended.

I'd love to build a desktop into an old IBM Thinkcentre case

tca35_frontal_dt014548.jpg

Or even one of the Thinkstations/Servers

Probably my favourite stock cases to exist they just look so damn good. Burbalade instead of f*cking with resistors you could maybe get PWM fans and a controller to stick in what looks like a spare 5.25 drive bay? Easier than soldering and gives you more control.

Yeah I love those sleeper builds, my favourite case I'd love to do one in would definitely be this InWin Q200AX as seen in this Maxxarcade video

But unless I bought that case directly from him then I doubt I'll ever be doing a sleeper build, just something about 90s/early 2000s cases that I love. Simpler times before LED's and window panels took over lol.

I think my first build was 05 and a Athlon 64 3200, MSI K8N board and a 7600gt inside a terrible fully clear acrylic red case you can see in the 07/08 photos from my setup progressions further up the page. Still wasn't as bad as when I had this case:

Plus extra blue cathodes because more blue = cooler temps obviously

Don't really need the control, I probably wont be at the server when it's working it's hardest. The coolers I've got are designed for workstations that run up to 150w TDP Xeons. The Xeons I've got are 50w TDP. I can buy the inline resistors for a few bucks each as premade 3 pin extensions, so no soldering is needed. Certainly a lot cheaper than replacing all the fans.

Love the mods for GTA 5, they are great for making wallpapers.

Using scene director, skin control, and simple trainer.

Supra from AlexHIT, modded sultan spoiler from AlperB's Evo 6.

My router is literally in a cupboard on the ground floor. I don't own drill bits long enough to make a hole through the ceiling so WiFi it shall remain until we move.

Got my new LG 29UM67-P this monday, and I have to say it's pretty freaking awesome. Especially racing games are a totally different experience compared to my previous 16:10 display.

Now I can just relax, lay back with my legs on the desk and play DiRT3 in its full glory :^:

On the downside, viewing angles are not as good as I've expected (miles better than on my old TN panel, but quite poor compared to my brother's L245WP), and it's got a pretty noticeable backlight bleed (particularly in the lower left corner), but that doesn't bother me. Other than that - no complaints so far.

He's playing DiRT 3, I think.. great game :^:

My desktop is so bland lately. No idea what to include or change.. anybody have ideas on how to spice things up?

fC4lxcj.jpg

And here's my specs, nothing impressive at all tbh.

Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ stock speeds

4GB PC2-5300 (333 MHz) DDR2 RAM

MSI Radeon 6450 2GB @ stock speeds

WD Caviar Blue 250GB HDD

EVGA 400W PSU

I'm able to OC the CPU and GPU but I doubt it'd give me any advantage.

You can hit quite good OC's on a Q6600 but it runs hot though if I remember right.

Anyway, main desktop:

Rebuilt my system, got most of the dust out, attempted some "proper" cable management and did the best I could with a non modular PSU lol. My SSD also kept giving that boot error again so I removed it hhh back to mechanical for the time being.
