Eh... is it too big? =P

Yes.

But since we're page stretching anyways...

Pfff, page streching? What size resolution is you monitor set to?

1280x800, which is pretty nifty on a 13 inch laptop.

I've got 1440x900 and it's still stretching my page tounge.gif

Just a tiny bit though.

@ the whole simple and clean desktop discussion, I find the convenience well worth the cluttered desktop. It's much easier to double click the icon then go to run, or open c:/ then go to numerous other folders. I even have a shortcut to my main folder on my desktop... The only thing that sucks about it is the slight lag when you go to the desktop while it's loading all the icons. I'd go nuts with no background picture or icons.

And while we're all stretching the page, here's a picture of my entire desk, new set up from before since I changed rooms.

Yay, someone gets my point! =)

I used to have a shortcut to my main folder on the desktop too, but then it was always so slow to open it and load a lot of files and icons and thumbnails and whatever, that I just decided to put the folder on the taskbar. See that "[untagged Folder]" thing right beside the Vista "start" button? There you go. With a few quick scrolls I can open any file I want. That was the smartest change I made to my work area since I adopted this "main folder" system.

Here's a screenshot:

And none of you seem to get mine.

Right click on desktop › Arrange Icons by... › Uncheck "Show icons on the desktop"

Left side is various apps, Winamp, Photoshop, MSN, etc. In the middle I have Firefox, the "fndr" is a shortcut to Windows Explorer, and TRSH should be quite self explanatory. On the right side are shortcuts to all my games.

No clutter, no mass of unorganized icon madness and the pleasure of being able to see your entire wallpaper.

Win.

Is common sense now so rare, that we should call it something else?

I do the same thing, basically. I have at least 20 icons on my normal desktop, I use almost all of them daily.

the others I use often enough that double clicking an icon is still a much better option than looking through

folders for them. I use SysMetrix though (a little skinned system stats thingo), which in addition to it's other

functions, also allows me to add a button to any of the skins for adding/removing the icons.

Same thing, just like half a second quicker.

I'd hide them, but I use them so frequently it'd be a pain to constantly unhide them so often. I can handle icons enough to save a good second or two everything I want to open a program.

Laptop with fluxbox and conky. I finally got around to installing Gentoo and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Of course I did start at stage3 so meh.

oh that first desktop was the desktop from windows 3.0

I could be wrong, but I think it's actually 2.0, funny nonetheless.

This is my current desktop look. I recently got a new computer, but the guy that set it up did a quick custom install to make it go faster and didn't add themes. Sucky ol' classic look sucks. That's a photo I took as the wallpaper. Does anyone here know where I can get a nice slick download like a Vista theme? I want something with no strings/hackzorz attached, if possible.

Never mind, I'm happy. biggrin.gif

what theme is that and how did you install?

I forget. I think I downloaded it from http://themexp.org as the Royal Vista 2 theme.

If you want a matching Firefox skin then check out the NASA Night Launch add-on at the official website.
