I liked the last album but Broderick is bound to make this one better, I'm looking forward to it.

THIS is the band this chap keeps going on about.... in a metal topic?  dontgetit.gif

Yes infact it is, Yeah i do like the cover because the screaming vocals in the middle are unexpected but off course somemone was going to pick that song trying to make them look bad, Why not post one off there other songs?

And scarface i did do that about phil collins.

Hey, guy. I didn't know Blink-182 added screamo screeches to their songs now.

Seriously though about that preview, meh. It sounds alright but like typical Megadeth. It will probably be a good listen but nothing special. At least that is what I thought of the last album.

I'mma have to disagree. Those previews got me seriously pumped. Any of those clips trump Sleepwalker, in my honest opinion.

New Megadeth album sounds badass. Hopefully it'll be better than United Abominations. I could never really get into the album apart from Sleepwalker and Gears Of War.

A Day To Remember are currently one of my favourite bands ever, and I only got into them properly about 6 months ago. They're catchy, heavy and a fun band. Just because they aren't real metal doesn't mean that they can't be good. I enjoy my fair share of metal and metalcore. And the 'Since U Been Gone' cover isn't really a great example of their abilities, and the video itself is a direct parody of Kelly Clarkson's.

Anybody else psyched for the new Slayer album, World Painted Blood, like I am?

Yes exactly what he said, If you didnt try so hard to make the look bad maybe you all would'nt look as stupid as you do now.

Yeah new slayer album should be good. biggrin.gif

Oh yeah, the new slayer album should be as hokey and boring as their last decade's worth of work.

Word. My friend sent me a new snippet of a new song or something and was telling me it sounded like old school thrash but to me it just sounded like the same sh*t they've been doing the last 10-15 years.

It's why we love Slayer though. They can release a 'new' album full of the same old stuff, rebranded with new song titles. It's marketing genius. tounge.gif

To be fair though, 'Christ Illusion' is still one of my favourite Slayer albums.

I don't mean to be one of those people that constantly drops names of their favourite artists, but are there any fans of Buckethead's particularly "metal" offerings? A lot of his material is what you'd call heavy or at least "rock" (I hate that genre) as it is but I was just curious if anyone was a fan.

All the genres buckethead covers are done well, but his heavier stuff such as Elephant Mans Alarm Clock, Crime Slunk Scene, Enter the Chicken, Albino Slug and Slaughterhouse on the Prairie are all great albums.

On the subject of Slayer, I thought Christ Illusion was a solid album. Not as good as their earlier offerings, but it was a huge improvement over their experimental 90's stuff.

mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno.

Buckethead is a bloody genious in my opinion, not only has he insane speed and technique but also a great sense of melody which is a rare combination.

Christ Illusion was a great improvement of past offerings. People dismissed it as new Slayer crap which was unfair. I'm not saying it was as good as the early stuff but maybe a steppingstone to some good early style stuff on the new one. I don't know, call me an optimist.

Definitely. I'm a huge fan of Buckethead. I've most of his discography, and some of his side projects like Praxis, and Thanatopsis, but his discography is far too huge to have all of it. biggrin.gif

His heavier options that I favour are some that Starion has already mentioned but my favourites are Albino Slug (one of his finest albums overall imo), and Crime Slunk Scene.

But I'm always in favour of listening to his slower more melodic stuff like Colma, Electric Tears and A Real Diamond In The Rough, all 3 albums are a must-have for any Buckethead fan.

New Deth clip sounds like ass. f*ck Andy Sneap and his sh*tty production that he does on every single one of the albums he works on. f*cker makes everything sound so sterile and lacking any form of balls.

I'm sure the new Megadeth will be about as bad as the last Testament record.

Alternatively known as life. But hey, so far both Buckethead and Slayer have racked up two fans.

And... *gasp* A Day to Remember.

Dream Theater was f*cking great. Not that I doubted before, but they really are a great live band. In addition to being flawless, they're doing what they like, and that really transpires. Like the band screwing with Myung, signalling the entrance and leaving him to play by his own. No matter how good you get, you're still the bassist, I guess. tounge2.gif Or Rudess hitting Petrucci's strings mid-wanking while they were trading solos because John was taking too long. Rudess laughed his ass off and proceeded to shred his keytar. Good stuff.

Here's the setlist. The only thing I regret was the fact that Rudess should've got more exposition.

Lucky bastard, you got Hollow Years. Last year I got Erotomania and the Metropolis medley though which was awesome. During Erotomania Mike Portnoy threw a drumstick to someone behind him while still playing and then the guy caught it and threw it back to him while he was still playing.

That must've been choreographed, then. I can't recall if it was during Erotomania as well, but he did throw a stick out back to receive another, while playing.

Rudess's solo in A Rite of Passage was done with a freakin' iPhone, and he's been using the thing to solo on other songs as well. God damn, check this out.

- LaBrie wasn't as douchy here, both presenting and singing. The iPhone solo kicks in at 7 mins. You probably won't hear sh*t because it seems the footage suffers from the same sh*t that happened here - Rudess outmixed. Thankfully it only happened in the In the Presence of Enemies, and not during the three first songs or even the whole concert, like Download.

.

And LaBrie did talk about coming back next year. This just spells EuroPN.

Was that actually an iPhone? I thought people were kidding.

I f*cking love Dream Theater, I was worried about their new album because of what Systematic Chaos was like... but it really does kick ass. Not a big fan of the "Best of Times", which I feel bad for because it's about Mike's dead dad, but I just can't get into it. Rest of the album is pretty solid though.

I was buying Metal selections at the music store in Saint's Row II and realizing they were in the radio's selection already. Dammit.

By the way, I have a DOOM Peel Sessions CD somewhere, the recordings are out there.

Hellbastard is classic "punk-core"? I don't know if they use the word "crust" but seems likely. It's all metal, it's all good!

Grindcore to me is the British version slang for Death Metal with a more punk approach, Lee Dorian version Napalm Death is the the key to the foundation as I believe it to be.

The Prophecy of Doom is another band from the 1990s fitting that style.

There was a video put out highlighting grindcore bands at the time, been so long now I forget the company, but they also did one on Thrash bands and I bought both. The downside is the interviews were placed over the music videos which cut the time of the vid to 90 minutes I guess. Still, sh*t in that regard.

I've got the collectors Boxset coming tomorrow hopefully. Looking forward to the album and the covers CD, seems they have a new fan in Brian May who loved their cover of Tenement Funster

Some preteen squabbling over what constitutes metal again, I have to say, I tried branching out the sub genre's But that was a no-go, so this thread pretty much is it for all Metal music topics, and if someone doesn't like it, they can choose to chat about their favorite sub-genre. Just let people enjoy what they want, it's like an audio buffet.... get the picture yet?!?

This post is mainly for Trows as he's probably the only person I've seen talk about it, but does anyone know where I can get hold of Be'Lakor's album Stone's Reach? I've seen a couple of videos posted in here and in the Rate Song Above You topic but that's about it. Is it available anywhere?

Pretty much, the only place you can get it legally (highly recommended) is directly from the band. Since they're only on a label with Australian distribution.

On the left, there should be a link for the webstore on their Myspace.

Also, it's just Be'lakor, no capital L. tounge.gif

No dough this post will get questions and and maybe even some fighting.

I got the leaked version, but that's because I'm a little girl when it comes to waiting. I'm gonna buy the album tomorrow anywho. The leaked version is missing the first two minutes or so of 'A Nightmare to Remember'. And I'll imagine it'll be better quality, cos the levels on the leaked version are quite poor.

The collectors boxset sounds quite good, I might get that if I have enough money.

There's another band at least, with a similar name. They get airplay on the Root radio show frequently.

I'd like someone to translate these YouTube metal documentaries popping up, there's one on Kreator as well. This is somewhat new material and of interest to USA fans of metal like me, so I would like to know what is being said, if one can come up with a transcript online for these. They never subtitle in English which is lame

Dudes, So cool.

I was looking up the old station I was listening to in the mid to late 1980s, and I found a website dedicated to preserving bits of the legacy of radio in our state. In fact, they also have a YouTube channel! News reports that documented the radio stations from 1928 on ward, of course, nothing that early in video, but amazing, amazing stuff. I also found info on Wiki as well with some bumperstickers archived of those stations.

Maybe only our State in the USA is so lucky, but there's also a broadcaster's museum in here that's highly respected.

The audio clips download to the local drive as MP3 files, and I hope to contribute in some fashion considering all the tapes I archived, most to do with The Root of All Evil with Earl Root. 20 plus years of metal radio.

The most interesting aspects is all the ups and downs of stations changing is documented along with on-air personalities and major news stories as well. I don't think there's any way to possible archive it all, but damn!

I'll be checking a lot of that out!!

I was doing a small radio station in school growing up, it was my first experience, all the music was on carts, which are outdated even in professional radio these days, but wow, too cool! monocle.gificon14.gifShifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

In the Dokken thread I added that a live outdoor summer gig is taking place in my State, outside the metro area, they got Dokken, of course, Skid Row, April Wine and more. Really a gig that should tour the city/metro areas as well!

Hard Rock more then metal, but I had just been listening to April Wine on YouTube and now I see they're on tour!!

Looking from the first page onward, I'm re-reading this entire thread before it gets impossible to manage, but it's a chore!

Uno Carb was quite active in 07 when it started, I think we'd share some common ground in our tastes as well.

I see the whole Larry Lalonde/Possessed and Les Claypool with Blind Illusion was discussed back then as well. I have Metal Mania magazine with Possessed on the cover! 1987 or so. Larry was in High School and in Possessed at the time. Hitting the road was very difficult because of their young lives!

Anyway, One of the things I find is consistent is you guys who are still posting in this thread today are ones who discussed your favorite bands at the start of this thing, and most of the others got BANS!???

A few have been lurking more then posting. Just wish there were more of us old schoolers online, I got to see bands like Sadus and Sepultura live in 1990. I won't forget the intensity of all the Metalfests I attended as well. No one seems to have brought those shows up in this thread back then, but there were already a fixture in the Midwest, USA!

Check out Earth Crisis, XMortis, Assassin, as well as Confrontation, Warhead, No for an Answer, Ankor Wat, and Destroy (destroy, destroy, I believe they are nowadays).

Been a Whiplash fan for years, the Thrashback Digipak CD I got from Earl Root's RootCeller records, I wasn't raped over the coals for the cost of it either. Also mentioned at the start of the thread is Nuclear Assault's SURVIVE. I have that on LP in prestine shape I might add.

Friends of the USA metal scene, Don AKA Sean Decker and Anal Blast. Fans of AC, check these guys out too...

And classic R A Z O R!!! I'm just delving into metal at the moment, but I have to get some shut eye, but I am really digging this old THRASH attack. I'll check out some of the suggestions as I look through this thread as well. I really miss Metal Church's David Wayne... he was awesome!

Adding GANGLAND Kreator cover...originally Tygers of Pan Tang. I got their LP after I heard the Kreator version;
