I've never seen In Flames, so at least I can say I've seen them.

I saw them live few years ago and didn't really like them at all. I thought that they'd play atleast few older songs but guess not.

Not at all, Sheeno. High on Fire is much more intense, heavier, faster, and much less blusey. Their first release was a lot more like Sleep than they are now, but still.

Sweet stuff. I've never actually tried "fast" Stoner Metal, so I'll consider buying their newest CD sometime.

Oh yeah, and I have a question for everyone: What's the metal band with the best lyrics for you? Best can mean anything; it may be the most profound in a philosophical context, the most atmospheric, whatever. It doesn't matter why you like them, although it'd be cool if you did specify why. I like lyrics that comment objectively on life as a whole, usually from philosophical perspectives. I rarely come across them though. I'm not sure who my exact favourite lyricists are, but Nevermore and Threshold certainly pop to mind.

Oh my. I couldn't resist, and I've just heard Opeth's Lotus Eater. Good God, they've done it again. Mikael's growl seems to be getting better and better. The song was pretty fresh through and through. Let's see how it fits in the album.

My favourite lyricists and Nergal, late Chuck and Akerfeldt.

Yeah, late Chuck is pretty cool. I haven't tried Nergal though, and I really don't like Opeth's lyrics that much. Nothing particularly capturing about them.

And I largely agree on Lotus Eater. It's pretty good. I find Opeth to be kinda overrated though. They're way too long and monotonous. Not that I don't like long songs; Progressive Metal's my favourite genre of music full stop. I would just much rather listen to, say, some Psychotic Waltz (only said them because they're playing at the moment).

Which reminds me, Buddy Lackey AKA Devon Graves is one of my favourite lyricists too.

Oh yeah, and I have a question for everyone: What's the metal band with the best lyrics for you?

First of all, Deathspell Omega. They are basically a satanic-type black metal band, but their lyrics aren't all "f*ck YOU JESUS DESECRATE THE ALTAR", but are way more philosophical and in almost "neutral" position, between God and Satan.

Another band is OM. Their lyrics are pretty esoterical and psychedelic, mostly about flying, ancient cults and philosophy in general. Very relaxing, something around stoner metal but much more mild and psychedelic.

"Dopesmoker" by Sleep gets my special mention. Maybe the lyrics concentrating around smoking weed and weed worship in general may get a bit silly after all, but still, it sounds f*cking monumental. The biblical-style lines et caetera. Last but not least is "My Wall" by Sunn O))) - incredibly climatic, haunting and apocalyptic poem half spoken, half sung by Julian Cope. And all is in the depths of drone doom abience. Immense.

At the moment, the only band which I can think of is Be'lakor.

A time when the light falls clearly

A place where the struggle began

She awoke to take back her realm

And expunge the virus infecting man

A natural apostasy

Burn away the creed of frail minds

The liars sins we now embrace

Synthetic moralities will lapse

No longer to revere the feeble

Their walls of protection have collapsed

A natural apostasy

tearing down the dogma of weakness

An unnatural mentality

Will be struck from this earth

The seeds of a natural chaos will devour

The artificial values which enslave us

The wrath of the restitution will devour

the blinkered cowards who constrain us

A silence so clear

The asinine are left behind 'ere the dusk fall so near

A scene of tranquil delight

She is restored, a nuance torn

And the truth shall burn into the night

No dough this post will get questions and and maybe even some fighting.

Oh yeah, and I have a question for everyone: What's the metal band with the best lyrics for you?

Clutch, though not really metal anymore, wins hands down. Even outside of metal, you'll have a hard time beating Neil Fallon's lyrics:

Organ grinder's henchmen shaking their coins in time-

"Guild of Mute Assassins will convene at a quarter to nine."

Behind the court house atop a scaffold stands a man with a bag for a face,

"You will not have learned until I return to give my executioner the chase."

The swinging of its censers, the silence of its members

Oh, the Guild of Mute Assassins

From the places in-between that are so seldom seen

Oh, the Guild of Mute Assassins.

Widow in the furrow with thimbles hasn't seen her face in years

Kneels into a puddled reflection to find it is just as she's feared.

In the Garden the Archangel, sword above his head,

"You will not return until you have learned what you've forfeited."

The swinging of its censers, the silence of its members

Oh, the Guild of Mute Assassins

From the places in-between that are so seldom seen

Oh, the Guild of Mute Assassins.

Baby on a threshold with silver. Breath rises from its lips

Beam of yellow light from a doorway and the figure of a silhouette.

In the cradle a wood stiletto rattles like a barrel of bones.

Another journeyman with passion silently recites the oath.

The swinging of its censers, the silence of its members

Oh, the Guild of Mute Assassins

From the places in-between that are so seldom seen

Oh, the Guild of Mute Assassins.

I can't believe I forgot Acid Bath

Like Murder

Stoned I awoke in your temple

To blackness above you

And death beside me

Where kitchen knives conspire

Razor blades make bloodless love

Like Murder

The ghost of a pale girl is solemnly following me

Pale will she follow me

Into the sea

I feel the flowers screaming

To consume you

Like Murder

Earth and sky your cradle

Earth and sky entomb you

And death beside me

I burrow through the dust

In your skull

But I cannot seem to find your soul

Bloodless and numb

We orbit the sun

Hungry will this pale thing

Follow me into the sea

On the cold side of her face

The reptiles awake

Locust swarm from open mouths

That sing thy kingdom come

While blackness hums

Nothing is true

and I'm tired of your sad today

You're screaming because

There's nothing left for you to say

Bloodless and numb

We orbit the sun

Hungry will this pale thing

Follow me into the sea

Stoned I awoke in your temple

To blackness above you

And death beside me

Where kitchen knives conspire

Razor blades make bloodless love

Like Murder

Researching the bands mentioned above, the best lyrics in my opinion are either Deathspell Omega or Be'lakor. I just love how they comment on the world from a cynical yet objective perspective.

Any Protest the Hero fans?

Not sure if "metal" is the best way of describing them, but it's the closest I can think of.

I found One by Metallica to have brilliant lyrics, it really paints a situation.

My favorite metal group is All That Remains. I really love this band. The drum playing of Tim is really off the hook.

Tim is the Vital Remains drummer who only played on the ATR live album.

Who knows why though. V.R. are clearly much better.

In better news, the new Hollenthon album leaked, the last 5 tracks have voice overs due to being a promo, but holy sh*t. Perhaps the most epic album ever released. This album wasn't written, it was forged.

Haha, I seen it earlier, and thought "I'm going to give that a listen"

Thanks lambgoat!

"Big Business is now a three-piece band, as they have added Toshi Kasai (Altamont) to their line-up on guitar/keyboard.

Meanwhile, the group has announced that will be entering the studio in June to record a new album for Hydra Head Records. The effort be recorded by producer Phil Ek (Modest Mouse), with whom the group has worked before.

In related news, Big Business will tour this summer with the Melvins. Then, this fall the band will tour Europe."

Sweet.

And I saw some news about The Indomitable Iron Sloth and czech't out their band solely based on the name. Band rulez.

Shrinebuilder.

A collaboration between Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Scott Wino (The Obsessed/Saint Vitus etc.), Dale Crover (Melvins), and Al Cisneros (Om/Sleep).

I can't wait.

Metal supergroup to end all metal supergroups.

Pff, Damn Yankees will always be the best.

pffffffffft.

Just got back from Paganfest in Cleveland. It was cool, but I was pissed that Tyr only played like 4 songs (like 20 minutes?) and probably should've at least taken Turisas's (Turistas lulz) spot. Really, really really pissed. And merch was ridiculously expensive.

I think Metal Hammer even came up with the name "Battle Metal" and as such must have been frothing at the mouth when Turisas called an album Battle Metal (Which I do like)
