Homemade Dynamite

Whoever said anime fighting game soundtracks can't be metal?

I saw Napalm Death, Brujeria, and Lock Up earlier this week. All I can say is... wow. Brujeria blew that f*cking building up. For the record, Napalm Death are probably my favourite foreign band to have ever existed, but Brujeria were just on a whole other level, absolutely the best on stage and probably one of the best performances I've seen all year. Had listened to bits and pieces here and there but nothing prepared me for that, was more psyched about seeing Napalm. Crazy f*cking psycho Mexicans.

And Shane Embury, the man's a f*cking beast. Bass + backups for 3 of the 4 bands on that night, must have played at least 60 songs all up.

NAPALM DEATH - DEAR SLUM LANDLORD (2015) (Grindcore/Death Metal)

Seeing these crazy motherf*ckers in December, hopefully all 4 shows in my city.

LxPxPx - LxPxPx (2016) (Grindcore)

I completely forgot about these guys over the years since 'Lair of the White Worm' and want to ask Henri and the guys for their forgiveness. The new one is amazing.

I was looking for some more sludge/stoner metal to add to my collection and came across a band called Old Man Gloom. I did some listening and I quite like it, I was initially aiming for something like a heavier Melvins but this is closer to Harvey Milk in the vocal department. It's also a lot faster than most stoner/sludge material I know of, but I'm definitely into it.

Have some prog

Ooh. I do like a bit of prog, even the less aggressive end:

And this juxtaposition is exactly why I will always love Opeth. The dynamic shifts from heavy to soft and back again. It both soothes my weary soul and provides the raging catharsis my pain demands. Lord, that sounds dramatic af... but really.

I haven't listened to Opeth in what must be years. Both Opeth and Wolves In The Throne Room sounded great years ago, but I sort of fell out of the habit of listening to them. I think I was more taken with the dark ambient side and moved on to drone. Sunn O))) are still one of my favourite bands today.

Went through Discordance Axis' discography the other day. Had only ever done the full-lengths as I recall but decided to see if their early EP's and demos had anything special. Then I came across their split with Capitalist Casualties. All I can say is grindcore perfection. The punkier (apart from the vocals) more chaotic side of their music wasn't one I was even aware of, it's like a raw, primitive version of Gridlink.

Any grind recs from anybody? I've always listened to local grind and the big foreign names like Insect Warfare and Rotten Sound, have been enjoying some of the more underground international stuff and am looking for more. For reference, I'm after more noisey/chaotic stuff than deathgrind, which I usually find to be kinda boring.

Thanks sivispacem, have noted them down and will have a look at the rest of it.

Almost forgot about this - new content from the greatest songwriter in all of heavy music. Godflesh is so f*cking on point with this single. Drum track reminds me a lot of Us & Them, getting many drum & bass vibes from it. Vocals are interesting, not like anything I can ever recall Justin doing before. The new full length out in a few weeks is meant to be more experimental and post-punk than Godflesh has ever been - so looking forward to hearing something unique.

Listened to their "ØØ Void" album a few months ago and it was great. Now that you've reminded me of it, I have to listen to it again soon.

Been revisiting an old classic. You know an album is great when, in the first few seconds, you just whisper "Hell... yes...".

If you haven't heard of Cormorant, then rectify this appalling situation post haste.

Yeah, their first three are their best. I am heavily biased towards their first one because of songs Black Butterfly and Behemoth. Time To Die album sounded horrible.

I quite enjoyed Witchcult Today and Black Mass. Witchcult is up there with Let Us Prey and Dopethrone IMO.
