I wouldn't say I'm a metalhead but I do listen to metal from time to time.

One of my favorite metal albums, a little sideproject made by Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen. It features a bunch of metal songs set in a space theme with lyrics influenced by science fiction movies and series, like Star Wars, Stark Trek and Alien. It has some pretty good songs, including an excellent cover of Bowie's Space Oddity.

Cute sissy metal, bro, but not as cute as your sweet ass. ;)

First I bought their debut, now their sophomore album.

I just picked this one up. Nothing groundbreaking but a brilliant example of elite BM/NSBM/true bm whatever you want to call it. So f*cking hard.

What do the tracks with (*) mean? I know this box set is good sh*t but are tracks marked with (*) missing or something or only featured in certain editions?

Femme Fatale

It usually means that they're only featured on certain editions.

Ex: I make a compilation filled with songs for perverts.

1. Clit Licker - GG Allin

2. Endless Slut - Midnight

3. I Got Erection - Turbonegro

and so on...

BUT. I think to myself, hey, how 'bout a "Halloween Edition" for those who are into really sick sh*t? So I add.

F*ck the Dead - GG Allin*

Code Blue - T.S.O.L.*

Women In Decay - GUT*

The (*) will appear at the bottom of the list saying "Available Only on the Halloween Edition."

Which editions do the songs on your compilation appear in? I've no idea. But like you said, it's some real good sh*t. I wonder if B Dawg would love it, too. Also, we have a Metal Topic, if you're interested. :)

My favourite genres of music are black and doom metal. Sometimes, though, I'll listen to some viking and folk. This album, for example, is one of the most fun I've listened to in a pretty big while. "In The Clash Of Arms" is my favourite song out of this and I replay it a lot.

If you want a mix of Black, Doom and Folk all in one band, you should give The Flight Of Sleipnir a go.

Check out the new album from The Flight of Sleipnir

Big thanks to Mr.Arrow for showing me what became one of my favorite albums of all time.

Thanks a lot for the recommendation, B Dawg. I gave it a listen while I was doing some work and enjoyed it through and through. Sadly, I wasn't able to take notes while I was listening to it, but I think I can recall most of my thoughts during the experience:

This album had me moving my head along with it and tapping my feet. It was that good. I enjoyed the doom and gloom start, the subtle build ups, bleak atmosphere, the sweet basslines and the way the album varied from start to finish. At first it sounded really like a doom album with black metal vocals, closing on depressive. Then, when I was thinking "Huh, there doesn't seem to be any folk in this", there came a part where I actually went "Oooh, there it is!". I swear I even caught some stoner-influenced riffs.

The Flight of Sleipnir's Skadi will now have frequent rotation with me. Thanks a lot for the suggestion, again, B Dawg, and to Mr. Arrow for the original posting.

I have more suggestions to post here but, as in not to spam the thread too often, I'll leave them for some other time. Keep those recommendations coming, man, because this one got me hooked. :^:

Be ready. I've heard among inner circles that Portal will be releasing a new full-length at the end of this year or next year at the latest.

PORTAL - GLUMURPHONEL (2003) (Psychosomatic steamrolling experimental death metal)

SOMNIUM NOX - THE ALNWICK APOTHEOSIS (2017) (Claustrophobic harrowed blast-beat black metal)

I'm sure I linked in here a while back to a band called Counterblast who are kind of doomy/sludgy crust.

I've recently discovered Morrow who have a very similar aesthetic- kind of depressive crust/doom. Covenant of Teeth is a splendid album.

Here's a recommendation based on seeing these guys perform a couple of years ago. I remember being slightly away from their stage and being curious to come check them out based on the music I was hearing. The concert was one of the most engaging things I had ever participated in, getting completely lost in the experience. It felt like being lost at the bottom of a pitch black ocean, with a shipwreck near by, the sung vocals being performed by the corpses of long lost sailors while Moby Dick itself performed the growled ones. What was a little over an hour seemed to pass by in an instant. Simply amazing.

So, I wrote them a few days later, commending them, and, one of the guitarists, Chris Hector himself, responded back. It was amazing, he was very nice and thankful for their fans. Definitely a band worth keeping up with. Below, I'll link their strongest release so far. A funeral doom full length of massive proportions, perfect for a listen while walking outside in a rainy day.

Enjoy.

Ahab

Damn... it's usually hard for me to get into straight up doom stuff without any particularly fast bits or pairing it with a similar style (a la Disembowelment, Thorr's Hammer) - but that hit the spot. Had a good listen and will be trying out more, guitar tones were right on point so hoping to hear more similar sounds. Love the melodic work too. Also proper use of the ride cymbal goes a long way and it's hard to get right, they did it.

New King Parrot today...

KING PARROT - TEN POUNDS OF sh*t IN A FIVE POUND BAG (2017) (Obstreperous vile offensive grinding sh*tstorm)

BLARGHSTRAD - WELCOME TO THE BLARGHSTRAD (2013) (Ambidextrous tumultuous stain on the floor)

If we're talking absolutely insane guitar tones then huge shout out to Kroh (Brimingham based stoner/doom band with a very operatic female vocalist) who manage to produce probably the thickest, nastiest guitar tones I've ever heard

Also, Speedwolf
