Went to see Sleep last night, they were f*cking immense, as ever. Little bit sloppy here and there, but so crushingly loud and heavy. I can't hear a f*cking thing this morning.

um ok, so here's a thing.

there's this guy who's actually a pretty close friend of mine. we went to school together for years until college because he's been seriously pursuing music as a career. and I've seen him play of course. he's exceptionally talented with the guitar and drums. but whatever, so this year he is formally releasing his first self written and produced solo album under the header of 'Adventure Metal.' he plays and mixes all the instrumentation. it's a concept about the different times of day. the first single is Sunrise.

 

can you guys tell me your honest opinions of this?

 

 

I listen to a lot of metal but it's pretty shallow.

Sabbath, Metallica, Maiden, Slayer, Slipknot, etc. I'm not deep enough with metal to even know there was a thing called adventure metal. I think this sounds pretty good and it's a better song than I could write. but how good is this? just curious what other metal people think.

I don't normally even care for instrumental music. I kind of prefer having lyrics of some kind. but it's still pretty good I think.

I love both albums but for me I prefer Black Future. The atmosphere of the album, start to finish, is immensely beautiful, perfect metal.

 

The first time I heard them I was blown away. In my mind the best metal band out there at the mo.

I treat Black Future and Outer Isolation as two parts of the same double album. They're kinda analogous to Opeth's Deliverance and Damnation or Nachtmystium's Assassins and Addicts- clearly two sides of the same musical coin. I'm really glad that Terminal Redux adopted many of the black metal influences from Black Future which were abandoned in Outer Isolation it the pursuit of greater harmony.

 

To be honest, like the last three Moonsorrow releases (Tulimyrsky, Varjoina kuljemme kuolleiden maassa and Jumalten aika) I like listening to them as a single chronological piece.

It it's not basically Delivrence Mk2, I'm not interested in afraid. I didn't even particularly like Ghost Reveries.

 

I'll take Blackwater Park 2, My Arms 2 or anything earlier too.

Anyway, Pale Communion, like Heritage, is an album that demands you to give it multiple listens for it to ''set in''. Once it does, you might just sit there .. somewhere .. yearning for more of the lush sounds that Opeth created with PC. Songs such as River, MASB, Elysian Woes and Faith in Others are majestically pristine, imo.
