I cracked and listened to the new Electric Wizard. It's f*cking rubbish. Give up, Jus.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

It really bums me out. At least I've got Come my Fanatics and Dopesmoker to spin.

Not sure if you mean Dopethrone or just dropping Dopesmoker in there because Dopesmoker.

But yeah, I actually turned it off before it was finished. I'd go as far as to say:

1. It's very heavy pop.

2. It sounded the same for around 50 minutes, and not in a good way.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

I'm not even going to bother with the new Electric Wizard. It seems to me that, if the album has Liz on it, it's not worth the effort. Seeing as how Jus can't keep his fists off anyone that even looks at her, they seem, well, doomed, if you'll pardon the pun. I'm hoping the new album's title is an expression of intent.

You say that, but Witchcult Today is amazing, almost Dopethrone good. Shame about the last couple have been so mediocre.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with that!

For me, everything after Dopethrone sounds wrong. The lack of immense fuzz on everything after ...Fanatics is always disappointing, and Dopethrone was the only subsequent album, for me, that really approached that same sound.

They're an incredibly hit and miss band though - even on ...Fanatics, the last couple of tracks don't really even sound like the same band.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

Musically, for sure, but there was something about the production of Dopethrone and Come my Fanatics that were just so f*cking heavy. Witchcult and Let us Pray are great, but I think they take a backseat thanks to the production values. The last thing of theirs that I truly loved was the split they did with Reverend Bizarre.

Also, if you guys haven't listened to it yet, Inter Arma's dropped their EP. It's pretty incredible.

Like metalsucks said, but I don't agree 100% for sure.

I’ve been listening to metal for 25 years, and from what I can tell, the metal scene has remained frozen in 1995. In contrast to other genres, who are all about what’s fresh, new and interesting, metal just seems content to keep talking about the same f*cking bands year after year after year, and I just don’t get it.

Weird, I see Metal as being the only genre that isn't affected by fads and gimmicks, and has consistently innovated for the last 25 years, whereas other genres come and go overnight.

no words for the ignorance of this statement...

Some words might help, actually, rather than just calling me ignorant. Do you actually have a view and something to contribute here, or are you just going to be an immature prick and not provide anything to back this up?

The town I live in has a thriving metal scene that has probably a hundred metal bands, all doing something fresh and exciting in their sub genres. From Doom, to Stoner, to Thrash, to Crust Punk, to Black... our scene is strong. Much stronger than your apparently empty point of view.

If you want to get involved in the discussion, bring something to discuss. Otherwise, if you just want to throw insults around, either PM me and I'll pass them on to the mods or just shut the f*ck up, child.

This might be the worst lamb of god cover band I've ever heard. It's like one long rehashed slam riff breakdown that goes nowhere.

Because it's October:

Between Engorged and Splatterhouse's sets (cause I know both bands have Frightmare members in them) at MDF I'm gonna be shouting Frightmare songs in hopes I get one at least.

I'll have to start checking out Inter Arma since they'll be there as well.

PS: f*ck groove metal (or jock metal is what it should be called now) even though there bands out there who have some groove riffs in their discography that I am fans of (Bolt Thrower for one).

Question on an old album: What did everyone think of Atheist's most recent album Jupiter? A lot of people didn't like it so much because it was more 'modern' sounding and a lot of people hoped for Unquestionable Presence 2. I sort of was disappointed because of the fact that it sounded like it was aping newer sounds, but it has grown on me a little bit, I never really wanted an Unquestionable Presence 2, but then again I preferred Elements.

I won two free tickets to see Conan in Camden (Underworld) tonight, but I don't feel up to it. If anyone London based wants to try and blag in on my guest list spots, hit me up.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

For me Atheist die in Elements.

The two Bathory Nordland albums are criminally underrated. Nordland I in particular is a absolutely brilliant album. They've been kicking around my music collection for ages but never really gave them the time of day until recently.

Really? Napalm Death are f*cking awesome and amazing live. Don't get me wrong, I'm psyched as hell to see Voivod but I'm also seeing Napalm Death at MDF so it will be fun seeing them twice. Wish Phobia was opening the show here.

Should I go see Carcass next week? I've never seen them live, and I haven't owned anything of theirs since Heartwork.

Also Sunn

I might be jaded having seen ND five, six, seven times now? Always wanted to see Voivod, planets were never really in alignment.

Carcass are amazing live. I've missed them on the Surgical Steel tour by virtue of totally forgetting it was coming out, but it's absolutely fantastic. Very reminiscent of Heartwork, but with better drumming and production.

Also, the lyrics to "A Congealed Clot of Blood" rather appeal to my strategic studies/radical Islamism/Takfiri terrorism background. Possibly the strongest condemnation of radical Islam ever committed to music, but understood by so few...

Also, Ted Maul.

Who are the openers? Only time I saw them was back when they first reunited and Michael Amott was still touring with them. I'd see them. I dunno if they still do it but when I saw them they had a screen that showed all this gore and sh*t.

OBITUARY, EXHUMED, NOISEM (which I'm hoping is a Nasum noise cover band)

Tickets are $25 though? That's why I'm on the fence. Also it's at a venue who do pay to play ticket sales for local bands, which is absolute horsesh*t.
