Here is another power metal band I love. This is probably not my favorite song from them, but this is probably their best music video yet!

Great! I knew only this song, which i love it

Going to see Anthrax with Testament and Death Angel Friday. So f*cking stoked. Saw Anthrax once before when they opened for Maiden when Dan Nelson was the vocalist. My first Belladonna experience. Anyone else catching this tour. Really f*cking psyched for Testament.

Digital Murders

I would like to get your guys opinion on line-up changes.

Obviously in our genre of music (encompassing the whole metal spectrum, of course) it is not uncommon for bands to have members drop off. This seems to be more common and frequent with those who aren't quite established yet or have not "made it big". Over time, bands either begin to slowly dissipate or hit it off with their new found ship mates.

Do you think an "established" band has more to lose when their line-up is drastically changed? Think of Van Halen without Eddie. Or Zeppelin without Jimmy. Would you continue to stand by the band, for better or worse?

The reason why I ask is, for a long time; ten years or so, I've listened to Chimaira. I have all their releases, some of which are better than others, but the foundation of the band, Rob Arnold and Matt DeVires, are now gone. Leaving only one of the founding members left in the band. Yeah, they've had band members come in and out before, but now, nothing remains. (pun intended? You decide) Not that their last few releases have been anything ground breaking, but it's pretty decent considering.

Another good example is my favorite band, Opeth. Whom have only two founding members left. I've been lucky enough to see them with their "golden era" members, and the rest of them up till just last month.

Sorry for the long read, just wanna get some opinions.

SABBBBBAAAAAAATH!!

Un-f*cking-real...

I'm all for the re-re-reunion of Sabbath, but that video is pretty slanderous. The show is probably going to look more like this...

They even have that clapping thing down that Ozzy seems to do.

But, I'm sure if I close my eyes and let the copious amount of drugs take over, it will be like 70's Sabbath.

Holy f*cking sh*t the show last night was awesome. Death Angel really impressed me. I knew they were gonna be good but they were better than I expected live. Testament and Anthrax destroyed though. Was pissed that Anthrax cockteased the crowd with I'm the Man then went into a cover of Refuse/Resist instead though......

Anyone here also have a love for modern Prog Metal? I personally would prefer it to my older influences like trash and hardcore, but I appreciate it all the same. I'll leave you with a couple of my favorite "Djent" bands:

Animals as leaders is a fantastic band. I don't get in to a lot of purely instrumental bands, but their stuff is quite fascinating.

As for all the "djent" stuff; whatever you wanna call it, I can't wait for Meshuggah to drop another album to put all these imitators to rest.

Tosin Abasi is an incredible guitarist. For instrumental Metal, I've got an 8-Bit/Djent project (link in sig), check it out.

Over the past year or so I've been more drawn to instrumental Metal. I find that for a lot of bands the vocals really ruin it and take away from the intricateness (most of the time). Bands like Meshuggah and Periphery are exceptions in my book.

Honestly can't stand most prog bands. Riffing is just boring to my ears, something about that whole style just doesn't hook me in the slightest.

Going to see Rammstein (still relevant?) in May when they hit Chicago. I could never really get in to their stuff, but there are a few songs I enjoy. I've never seen them live and I guess their live shows are quite the spectacle, so I figure I may as well.

So just for the occasion I picked up their last release "Liebe ist für alle da". I think they have a greatest hits album coming out too that I'll probably pick up.

Remember TesseracT played Sonisphere, got to the tent they were in 5 minutes late and the place was PACKED. Need to get more of their stuff.

I was considering going to see Rammstein. Know a lass who went to see them on the last tour and said- as a spectacle- they were sublime.

Here's some footage of Grey Host from a month ago. I was sick, and had a sh*tty show, but it seemed to go okay anyway.

The Shaman

Album should drop next month, now that we finally have the bass tracks down.

Just scored tickets for Metallica's show in Horsens, Denmark on June 6th next year. They're inaugurating a new venue on the grounds of a closed state prison, which will suitably be named 'Fængslet' (The Prison), and house 40,000 people. They'll be playing The Black Album in its entirety. Can't f*cking wait.

How often are you in the US? I recall many a poor lighting small band gig, since they had to play anywhere they could, basically. I hate darkly lit stages, and most bands have a good laugh over the various staging, here and there, They love being able to play in Minneapolis at First Avenue since it's such a noted fine club for pro and amateur acts.

For live mics, ought to try some of my techniques. Bass gets lost at times, but you lose the over-modulation (mics being overpowered with volume)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the ten year mark of Chuck Schuldiner's passing. Definitely some one worth remembering in this genre. Not only did he help shape death metal, but he constantly was reinventing it with every new release.

Can't decide between Human and Symbolic, both are easily my favorite Death releases.

Did you get to see him and DEATH live? I was shocked to hear of his passing. I talked via email with his mum not long after his passing, It was posted in Blabbermouth for people to send well wishes, As I recall. She was very pleasant. I remember Cliff Burton's parents loved hearing from fans, helping them in those tough times

I'm rather old school, I uploaded this pic for something new and it shows the rather rare magazine THRASH METAL from the good ole daze

I got to see Death live when the other bands were Sadus, Sepultura, Pestilence, and the like! I'm so glad I did get to see all that!

Unfortunately I never got to see them live. I got in to them about a year before Chuck passed and was relatively young (14) at the time. So I wouldn't have even had the means of going to see them if I wanted. It seems like it was just never meant to be, to see one of the most legendary bands out there.

Speaking of shows, I forgot to mention that Devin Townsend came to the brew city last week. Probably, 40 people; tops, at the show. The most awesome 40 people I've ever been in a room with. Also helped Devin load their gear into the trailer and then he bought me a beer. Best night of my year. And of course, the show was phenomenal.

I wonder who here got to see bands like Pestilence in their heyday or Sepultura, who I've seen, the original band Twice, at least. Awesome. I'd seen Nuclear Assault at a now closed nightclub where most everyone had left by the end closing set, but John Connelly ran out into the crowd while performing a song, which was just awesome!

Chuck and Death!, I'd heard [Cattle] Mutilation I think it is, back in the Scream Bloody Gore days and said, now that's class DEATH METAL, but there was a year or so when he became self-obsessed and egotistical, My friend Earl Root and the original Disturbed played a local show in Minneapolis, and at that time Chuck made a stink about the dressing rooms back stage, he was not impressing the other Metal bands there performing with that, and Earl got a rant going on his radio show about how he'd been unimpressed with the situation and refused to play DEATH on his metal show, Luckily that reversed though, and in actual fact, as I hear it, Chuck eventually realized he had let ego get the best of him and had changed his ways, and outlook on life with the band. I'm so grateful that happened because most people accepted him back to the real world.,... a few years before he passed I believe, but he's left his mark for sure!
