*MURDOC*
Anyone know a decent free program with which I can f*ck with my vocals, like a vocoder. I'm trying to get mostly mechanical-type sounds from my voice. Any help= Appreciated.
Wolf68k
You want to do this live or after the fact? You can use Audacity to change it after you've recorded it. Don't ask me how exactly but I'm sure it can do it and it's free. I'm not sure if the filters in it can be applied as it's recording. Maybe not exactly what you want but it's a voice changer and it's free http://download.cnet.com/Funny-Voice/3000-...tml?tag=lst-0-

Edmachine
Is there a way to rename 71 folders to ALL CAPS without renaming them one by one? Preferably without additional software, maybe using the command prompt, if that is possible. If it is possible to do it with Total Commander, I am fine to download that. This was suggested for changing extensions of multiple files, but I think you can use it to change filenames too. Put all of the files in the same folder on your desktop. Hold shift and right click on the folder. You should see an option to "Open command window here" Click that. In the command window type this: ren *.(old extension) *.(new extension) For example if you wanted to change all png files to gif, you would type ren *.png *.gif
Edmachine
I am talking about folders. And I don't think that'd would work for that. Also, I am not a genius at command prompt, so I wouldn't be able to figure the command (if there is one) by myself . I did find something but that was for Linux . Torcidas
Hi everyone. My older computer has recently gone kaput and I'm looking to buying parts for a new one to put it together. Sort of a noob question though, but is it possible to run my old SATA hard drive straight through my new computer? I'm not looking to buy a new hard drive at the moment because I don't "own" a copy of Windows XP to run it from, but I'd like to know if my operating system will run from my old hard drive? I hope you can piece together what I'm asking. I'm kind of in a panic because I have a university essay on that hard drive that I need printed, and I'm trying to find a simple approach to it.. Chances are that it won't since the hardware has changed. The OS on your HDD was installed with drivers and registry keys pointing to your old hardware. You'll have to reinstall XP. anus
Yep, you're going to have to reinstall Windows I'm afraid. You'll be able to backup the essay of course by just running the HDD on the new PC. And if you need a good build, give me a budget and I'll put together one for ya .
Torcidas
Thanks for your replies, guys! One last quick question.. if the operating system installed on the new hard drive isn't the same as the one on the older one (like lets say different service packs XP or w/e), will I still be able to backup my file? Also, I'll PM you shortly Warlord.

Yes, why not. You'll be booting from your new HDD and so all data on your older HDD will stay just as it was and you can easily copy it over to your new HDD. Gold Digger
Hey chaps, I'm wondering if there is a way to stop annoying IE ads? I'm on firefox (all the way baby) and I can't seem to find a good ad blocker (a free one) to stop all this. basically my IE opens itself with an ad in it. Help much appreciated. Wolf68k
What you're talking about is caused by ad/spyware you need to get Ad-Aware and Spybot and let them both scan and remove what they find. Spybot can take it a step further by adding about 10,000+ site to block your system from even being to access.

Wolf68k
Did you actually run it, let it update and scan? Did you do the same for Ad-Aware as well?
poopskin
Dear GTAF: How would i go about getting my old Music Collection off my iPod? i want to do it before i connect to iTunes and my new computer causes iTunes to wipe it. *last computer, clobbered XP installation. Maybe i could fish the files off with my ReactOS livecd...? Edited April 20, 2009 by poopskin
Wolf68k
There are program out there for that iPod recovery. My suggestion is before you do even try it is to first, if you have iTunes installed already, is to stop the iPodService that is running but I would also back that up with renaming the iTunes folder just to make sure. Other than that just do a search for iPod recovery or iPod backup. I can't suggestion anything to use on Windows since I've only do it on a Mac. Anyway, I was just wondering what I can do to run my computer (vista) in a stripped down mode to maximise my folding. Like, can I close the graphical windows interface/random background programs so the maximun amount of clocks on my proccessor are devoted to folding? How can i stop it opening in a new tab? That's odd, I had a good look through the firefox options, found nothing. I have a three button mouse, two normal clickers, plus a scroll wheel which doubles as a clicker. If I click a link with the scroll wheel it opens it in a new tab, left click loads it in the same window and right click shows options. Have you checked your mouse settings? Seems like the only thing that could be out of place to me. edit - my bad double post. Edited April 21, 2009 by asimov

Disabling some services is a good start http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm Other wise Google for things like tweak vista or vista lite. This site could help http://www.tweakvista.com/ Some of these might point to something called vLite, this is for making a lightweight Vista to install with. It's for making your own customized install disc of Vista, besides slimming it down you can also slipstream hot-fixes, create accounts and add your CD key so you don't have to type it in each time you reinstall your OS. Not what you're looking for to trim down an existing install but useful if you want to create a disc for future installs.
Gouveia
My dad has a MacBook and I'm getting fond of Mac OS X. Is it posible to get his DVD for the OS and install it on a Virtual Machine on my PC, using VirtualBox?
poopskin
so, guess what? my PSU finally took out something else in my new computer. at least we got the warranty and i have a copy of S.u.S.E i can install on my old computer to get it working. Computer's booting fine now, odd. However, i have backed up everything onto my external hard drive (thanks, norton 360!) in case something does happen, and i have no less then 5 Open-Source OSes ready to install on my last computer also in case something does happen, plus i want to refurbish it and use it as a jukebox or something.
