matthew1g
@ lawley. If yo uhave the latest drivers go in start>control panel>nvidia control panel>3D settings>monitor temperature levels. It will not show you the fan speeds though. Don't know any app that does that
Wolf68k
temperature in the shade is currently 37 degrees. And summer hasn't officially begun Should I be worrying? I've never trusted SpeedFan. Compare those numbers to what you can find Everest Free (search majorgeeks.com) For HDD when they reach 50F the heat starts to hurt the drive, for each degree over 50F it hurts is a great deal more. For the CPU that depends, but I would look at a better HSF. What is the room temp? That makes a big deal to the system. Clean out the dust inside the case, mostly on the CPU's HSF...dust loves to collect on the heatsink.

EDIT:Can someone recommend a good replacement fan that will definately fit this card for whne it does die. this is the card >Clicky< RivaTuner works for nVidia, not sure about ATI cards. It'll show the % (not RPMs). What is really nice, using RivaTuner there is a way to make the fan speed increase based on how hot the GPU gets. And it really does help keep the GPU cooler when it really needs. Or you can just set it to 100% all of the time. Fan for a 6800GT Zalman has one, the VF900-Cu (with or without LED). Like their CPU HSF it's a flower heatsink and very quiet but unlike the VF700 this one has a fan speed controller, the 700 you had to pick a speed using the power plug. For the card's RAM chips it uses stick on heatsinks. The nice thing about this unit is that it fits a wide range of cards both nVidia and ATI, but with those stick on ramsinks don't expect to take them off and put them on to a new card. I've also heard they can be a real bear to get off. If you have good air flow in your case, this is a good one to have If you don't have good air flow, or you'd rather just get the GPU's heat out of the case anyway; Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5 (rev 3) will cool the card just as well. It's fan speed and power is and controlled by the card, unlike the Zalman, so not extra wires. The only problem now is finding some place that still sells it. The newest one from AC is the Accelero X1 and Accelero S1. How well either one does their job, I have no idea since I've never been bothered to do a review search. Sixdust
http://www.genericcomputer.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=11671 Good deal? Don't go for anything less than 24", The gateway click or a dell Clicky. A big hint with the dell is to wait for one of their sales on this monitor, then use ebay to buy some really cheap stackable coupons and get the most for your money. There are other 24", I currently have an Acer 22" and I got it for cheap, but I regret not spending extra for the extra resolution and features. matthew1g
I've been seeing in some games and benchmarking tools such as Company of heroes and 3d MARK a setting called Post processing. I turned these on and didn't notice any difference what so ever. What does this do and what effect does it have on the Pc's hardware?

Provided your system is compatible for it, as in it can take 2Gb and it has two RAM slots Try going to Crucial.com and run the tester to see if you can install in pairs and if your system can allow 2Gb of RAM If it can then go ahead and buy that one you've posted

If you're saying that you want 3 total gigs of memory from 2 kits, then yes it will work. However, if you have 1 already, don't bother with 3 gigs, two is plenty for almost everything right now. I'd say just get another stick to make 2 total gigs in dualchannel mode.
Mr.Stevo
Alright thanks Fozzy, but once I get it, how do I put it in dual channel mode? Or does it do it automatically?
Spenc938
To put your RAM in dual channel, you just put the two sticks in the correct slots. Check your manual to see which. If you don't have one, give us the model # and we could probably look it up for you.

Remember This.
I've got a MacBook, and was just wondering, how do you take a picture of your current screen? Obviously on PC it is print screen and then paste in to paint or whatever, but I see no print screen button here in front of me...
Spenc938
This is going to be a short post, but to do a print screen you need to hold down: apple, shift, 3. As you do this it will save a picture of your screen to the desktop, and it will be in the .png file extension. If you would like to do a print screen of a selected area hold down: apple, shift, 4. Then select the area that you would like to copy. It’s just that simple.

Fozzy Fozborne
Dumb question, but how do I rename my DVD drives to D and E? I read somewhere to right-click and select properties and type in D:/, but nothing I type shows up in the box. Right now they are I and H. Nevermind, I figured it out. Spenc938
Right click on My Computer > manage > disk management > right click on the drive you want to change > click change drive letter and paths > click change > select the letter you want from the drop down list. If there is already another drive with the letter you want, you will have to change that one first.
GycuBrun
Help Me Please I have problems with the Movie Player Programs ( BSPlayer, Crystal, Nero Showtime, Windows Media Player 10 etc. ) In all is the same problem When I try to play a movie ( GTA IV 2nd trailer for eg. ) the colors are too "Greeny" ... It is too much green, like you`re watching the video with green sun-glasses ) This probably happened after I uninstalled something ( dunno what that was, probably a codec ) Nothing wrong with the Graphics Card because the games run normally ... Any idea what codec(s) might fix this or something to fix it ... It is ennoying to watch like that Please help ... If you don`t understand what my problem I`ll take a snapshot ... Crokey
It could be the settings of your graphics card, go into the settings of your graphics card you might find that you have some settings in there which are specific for Graphics for Video Playback, Settings for Gameplay and Settings for general use. The one for Vdieo Playback could be wrong, if not reinstall the latest drivers for your card again and this should reset things back to normal. Fozzy Fozborne
Thanks Spenc. Now my drives are C through I as they should be. @Gycu, if you're running an Nvidia card and the latest drivers, click start, control panel, double-click "Nvidia Control Panel" and select the "video and television" tab, then "adjust color settings". In the upper-right, click "restore defaults" and click apply, then close the window. Now try playing a video and report back. If you're using an ATI card, the process is similar, but it's ATI catalyst control panel instead of Nvidia control panel. Hope that helped. So thats pretty much it, unless you need optical drives, a card reader, or a sound card (if not using onboard). As for Windows, if you install it using the same numbers as the OEM machine you've got now, you can call Microsoft after it doesn't activate and explain to them that your motherboard died and you had to replace it. I've done it about five times and only once, did they not re-activate it for me. I'd try that first, unless your moving to Vista. EDIT: This program will let you see your Windows key, if you wanted to try that. Edited July 6, 2007 by Primer43

You might need a new HDD and you might not. Depends if you're happy enough with what you got now or if you want to get something with lots more space. Other wise it looks pretty good as is. Just me personally I would replace the heatsink&fan for one from Zalman, not that you need to. If the OEM disc is from Windows and doesn't have something like Dell or Sony or Hp or so on written on it, you might could get away with using it on this. As Primer43 said you might have to call them. But if you do choose to get a new copy make sure it's an OEM version as well, it'll save you some money. The only requirement I've ever seen/head of when buying Window OEM is that you have to get some piece of hardware, and you're surely doing that here.
