Edmachine
I was watching a couple of videos on YouTube (specifically, from TigerDirectBlog (ComputerTV)), and there was a long news video, and one of it's segments ( 16:00) was about the 24 SSDs (). They later said, that the main bottleneck when opening applications is the HDD, not the CPU, GPU or RAM. That got me wondering, would I get a noticeable performance increase, if I buy a 30GB SSD and put the OS on it. And my current hard drive would be for storing data and Windows 7 (which I doubt I'll be using, so I'll probably format that partition soon ). Would it be worth the money (they aren't that cheap)? Also, I am not thinking about this too seriously, so I am not really planning to buy anything, just wondering . Also, after watching some ComputerTV, I noticed, that they talk quite a lot about RAID arrays. Can someone explain (in English) what exactly it is, or, if not, give me a link (Yes, I could use Wikipedia, but it probably would have too many smart words)? Thanks! EDIT: Should I reformat and re-install XP, just because I kinda feel like I'd need to? Or is it just me being bored? M. H. Hunter III
Right guys random occurrence here that seems to be taking ground in the just the latest thing to thoroughly irritate me.I keep getting these random login boxes in the relam of my router, keeping in mind i've never had to bother with these logins like this before. This latest one is apparently from 'microsoft' but there is not more then 2 hours in between these damned things. Take a look and see if you guys can't help a brother out. And oddly enough when i went to upload the damned cap imageshack asked me to login just like this box below.....the hell is going on here. this certainly has red flags being thrown all up for me right now any help would be greatly appreciated bumped to next page. sh*t still occurring today, yet on other comp i have doesn't have this problem. EDIT: It appears that i can't use IE at all without supplying a password/un. and if i don't, then an error message comes up with a red background and says, 'This server could not verify that you are authorized to access. Either you supplied the wrong credentials(e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.' and obviously this isn't happening in FF, but this sh*t is really starting to piss me off now. Gouveia
I downloaded the lastest laptop drivers from Nvidia's website, but when I try to install it, it says that it can't find any hardware driver or something. Please don't tell me that I have to live with Sony's driver, because it is the same since 2007

Ronnyboy
I have a problem with Windows Messenger. Every time I log off, it will stay that way until about an hour passes and it just automatically logs me back in. It's not really a problem, except when I am at school and people send me torrent links or half naked women and my opens them. Anyway to stop this? They also have a feature on the site that will detect the card for you and point you to the right drivers. You do, however, have to let it install something to let it do that. leik oh em jeez!
I am looking to get my 9800GT working together with either my GeForce 6150 LE onboard or FX5200 for triple monitors. Onboard can be switched on in BIOS, but disables the 9800GT. FX5200 won't work with 9800GT's drivers, and 9800GT won't work with FX5200's Drivers. Is there even a low-level driver for the 5200 I can install maually through Device Manager? Just catch you up on everything... Edited March 18, 2009 by leik oh em jeez! I've tried the "auto-detect" feature, the "Notebook Drivers > Vista 32-bits" thing and selected it on my own. None of them worked, and they were the same drivers, so I guess I couldn't have got the drivers wrong or anything.

leik oh em jeez!
Have you considered those VGA hubs? 1 VGA input and then it has like 4 VGA outputs. A 'hub' would do nothing but split the signal, so there's the same image on all the screens. I have looked at the Matrox TripleHead2Go, but it would rule out dual view, costs too much, and I think all the monitors would have to be the same resolution, as it just spans one image acrosss three monitors, with the resolution configured by windows for what it thinks is a single monitor. GTA3Freak-2001
Should there be any issues with a video card running in a PCIe slot that has a broken or missing locking mechanism? When I installed my 8800GT I managed to break the little locking clip on my PCIe slot and while its in and working I am experiencing issues with nvidia drivers which stop working and cause freezes and restarts. Just wondering if the missing lock is possibly causing this?
leik oh em jeez!
Shouldn't be a problem, it's just a peice of plastic. There may be a sensor on the motherboard to check and see if it's locked though. (Don't know why they would do that...) Just in case you should make sure that what's left of it should be in the locked position. I never liked those. The lever to release it is under the heatsink, meaning getting a graphics card out is annoying as f*ck, unless you use one of those expansion slot covers to push it down. Check the Sony website to download the drivers. Most laptop manufacturers don't allow you to install generic NVidia GO drivers on their laptops. Try Here... if that doesn't work go here then type in "Vaio VGN-SZ450AN". Unfortunately, it looks as though they were last updated in 2007. It doesn't really make a difference upgrading graphics drivers at this point in the card's lifespan anyway. They haven't added any new features or gotten better performance out of it. kingvercetti
Is it normal for RAM to randomly die sometimes? When I first built my PC the fully functioning RAM from a Dell I had was fried when I switched it over, at first I just assumed that it me not discharging myself properly, but now after 6 months a Corsair stick has randomly died on me too, despite me not touching it in months. Am I just unlucky or could there be something up with my motherboard?
Edmachine
Try putting it in a different slot. If it doesn't work, the stick is probably dead. If it does work, the slot is dead or maybe the motherboard is damaged. But don't try it on a different PC. I read an article on how to kill your PC (and how not to). Here's why. "My friend's system had died due to a blown PSU, so I told him to put his RAM in another system for testing. Moving the RAM to a second system resulted in... you guessed it, a second dead PC. I figured he had just been careless and duly chastised him. Deciding this type of work was best left to the pros, I took the RAM home with me to test on my system. And you guessed right, a third dead PC..." We will be the arms that lift you up We will be the hand that strike you down
kingvercetti
Yeah don't worry, I tested one stick in a slot and it passed memtest with no errors, tried the other stick in the same slot, the system wouldn't even POST, so yeah, it's a dead stick. I've sent an RMA email, I'm just a little worried that it's my motherboard that's killing my RAM.
