@Mr Prickles: That powersupply is overpriced. You can buy a high-quality OCZ 600 Watt power supply for $80 instead of the 130 they want for that one.

Yeah, I've seen cheaper prices, but I can't be assed buying all that crap separately. Besides, I think it's implied higher cost = higher quality, no?

Unless OCZ's is seriously leetsauce, then I'll get it.

What do you mean by "all that crap separately"? It's only a combo of two items: 9800GT and a PSU. (COD4 comes with the 9800GT with or without the PSU). I'm just trying to save you $50. Also higher prices don't necessarily mean better products.

Well, I used to blow $20 on headsets which'd break after a month of good use, and now I bought one for $50 and it lasted me 10 months biggrin.gif

Also, The PSU and the 9800GT are basically all I'm buying, hence: "all that crap" tounge.gif

Thanks for the suggestion anyway. Might buy the OCZ PSU (or another one if I find cheaper + good reviews)

Okay, well, I want to reformat my computer but I have a few problems.

On my last computer, which was an eMachines, I would just insert the disk and it would ask if I would like to reformat.

On my new computer, which was custom built, he gave me a CD he made that brought up a screen with information about my hard drive and such. If I right click on my hard drive in that window (I can use my mouse which I wasn't expecting) there's an option to format my hard drive.

If I use this option will I be able to get my computer back to a fresh install of Windows? I don't want to wipe my hard drive and then not have a Windows disk to install windows on my hard drive. whatsthat.gif

I've had problems with reformatting, which was also the reason of my last computer dying. So 'd like some help on this one.

XMike, Do you have an image on that hard drive somewhere usually on the D: Partition(Image)? This holds the OS/Drivers and any Applications that were included with your computer.

If not then that disk that the person gave you along with the computer should hold the Custom image. You should have at least 3 options: Repair,Format,Restore-Recovery on Disk or HDD.

As long as you have the disk or the partition(Image) on the hard drive it's not that easy to loose Windows.

If you are on Windows Vista and if the D: Partition(Image) exist on your hard drive you can re-install Windows from scratch using the (F8) key> Safe mode, You will find the options I described above.

Edit: I also forgot to mentioned that Windows Vista allows you to make a set of Recovery Disks as well in case you experience a hard drive failure where you are unable to access the image.

Alright, thanks.

I use XP so I'll see what happens later on.

There's no D: Partition from what I remember earlier.

I have already reinstalled my XP. The only stuff that I've installed after it are: DX9, Audacity, DivX, AVS DVD Player and Winrar. Now, after every minute, it says explorer.exe crashed. It's annoying as f*ck. Is there something to repair it?

Have you fully updated Windows including all service packs. You could also try installing Spybot and some Anti-Virus software, Avira is a good one, also have you installed a firewall as well, just in case it's a little virus.

Did you install all of the right drivers?

what would be good system requirements for a Budget linux system? i imagine it would be pretty cheap, as it would only need about 512megs to 1GB of RAM, Plus a 500GB-1TB Hard drive (i may use it as a place to dump files in order to save space on my HD). I'm relatively new to linux, and i'm not sure what distro i should use. i think Ubuntu might get the job done, though.

I suppose so. If re-installing doesn't have any side-effects, then I'm gonna do it.

@Gareth: Hmmm... I think I need to download SP3. I just can't do it from my house, since my connection has a download limit per month.

I was just wondering. I bought a cheap 650W Power Supply a while back, and it's very loud despite having a 120mm fan. I've noticed you can buy quieter fans for the power supply off the internet, I was just wondering if it's a good idea, or if it's loud for a reason (Everthing else in my case is silent).

The fan sound is not a problem as long as your CPU isn't overheating. If you think that your case temperature is normal or below normal, you could try changing/lowering the speed of the fan from the BIOS if it's permitted. Alternatively, you could get a software like Speed Fan to control the speeds for you.

6? That's a lot of fans. I only have 3. Well, as I said before, if the temperature is around normal, I don't think you have to worry about the fans making more or less noise.

He might not have to worry about the noise but I think what he means is he wants it to be silent like the rest of the computer. For that I always found that if you spend a little bit extra on a PSU you'll find it's of a better build quality and thus, much more quiet.

Then again that's just my personal presumption. smile.gif

Yeah, it was a cheap power supply (£25 for 650 Watts), so I was expecting a bit of noise. I was wondering if it is the quality/design of the fan casing it, because I could easily buy a quiet 120mm casefan.

You don't upload to google, if you want your pictures to show up on google when you image search then your webpage (I presume webpage) would have to have some 'tags' on the page it's being used on, this is so when google scours the internet it will see those tags and use those for searching purposes.

The following page gives you a better description of what you might need

If it's pictures you've hosted via someone like isarapix or imageshack, and you are then posting it on here for example, then you could always add some information to your post about the picture and google could pick it up that way.

You cannot upload anything to google (except google video) because google is simply a search engine. It displays results from other servers.

Ok this is probably a real noob question, but, im thinking of getting up to 16 meg broadband to upgrade from my 8 meg which caps out between 6 and 7 meg, my question is if my broadband already caps out around 7 meg on an up to 8 meg connection will it go faster if i buy the up to 16 meg package? If it will why dont i get the full 8 meg on my existing package ? Also my apologies for my punctation im posting from my mobile phone

Download CPU-Z. Link: *http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Extract the files and run cpu-z.exe. The Package entry will tell you what socket CPU your mobo supports.

You should get a faster connection, the reason why you don't get the full 8Mb connection is probably because a) There is a large number of people on the exchange you are on or b) the ISP is capping it slightly because most ISP's are bunch of cheeky sods and don't give you the full amount because they think their system will collapse under the pressure or c) you will have a slight headroom on your connection for the sake of latency, otherwise you'll be squashing too much data through a small gap.
