A few months ago, I had a problem with the graphics card of my laptop. Some of you might have been aware of that from a topic I posted. I got it repaired back in August and it's running good as new. I noticed, though, that dxdiag reports that the graphics card has 776MB of memory. It's a GeForce Go 7600. I've also run several of those system requirement tests, which also report that the 7600 has 776MB of memory. It seems quite strange because the 7600 cards have 256MB of memory. The whole motherboard had to be replaced because everything is soldered to it, so it wasn't possible to replace only the graphics card.

So my question is, how can a 256MB graphics card actually have 776MB of memory instead of 256MB?

is it normal for the thing to take ages to load after the first usage? (it's been loading for the past 5 minutes now!)

I'm not sure. I just had it bookmarked coz someone recommended it to me a long time back. I still haven't signed up on there. Is it working the way you want it to?

@Lost-Fender: Is it possible that the rest of the memory is shared from your RAM? It's still highly unlikely though to have the graphic card share 520MB of RAM. Better take a second opinion.

DX Diag usually says you have more than you really have, because as far as I know it shares some of the system RAM.

Yes, I'm more than happy with this.. Does exactly what I needed it to do and I'm able to use it efficiently after a day of usage..

Quick idiot question.

Ok, so I am looking at getting a Nvidia GeForce 7600GS AGP card. The only problem is that the Specs say: Memory: 512MB DDR2. Do I need DDR2 RAM to run this card?

I'm assuming you mean that the vid card has 512ddr2 ram? It doesn't matter what ram you have, as long as you have an agp slot (and enough of a power supply) then it will work.

Yeah, it says that. Thanks.

Actually your maximum VRAM is 256MB but with the help of nVIDIA's TurboCache Technology it combines the capacity and bandwidth of dedicated video RAM with dynamically allocated system RAM to dramatically turbocharge performance. This would explain your increase in video RAM.

Common on laptops.

Just a quick question, I used to have a program and I'm sure it's title began with 'B'. It scanned your computers information such as hard drive space, graphics card etc then output it to a html file, anyone know what it is?

OK, so, today arrived my new router and Windows XP.

1. How to configure my router, to set a local IP for my PC as 192.168.1.2 and not .1.100? Router is a Linksys WRT54GL

2. Should I:

2.1 clean install my PC (formatting ONLY C:, because on D: are my games and stuff);

2.2 re-install after a cold-boot;

2.3 insert the CD when Windows is running and select Upgrade (Repair) (the back label on the case said to do either one of these three)?

3. Is it possible to have Kaspersky 2009 (version 8) AND ZoneAlarm Free Firewall at the same time? I tried to install a new version of ZA Firewall to maybe cure my BSoD problem, but it always got stuck at 22%. After removing KAV 7, it worked and, thank God, KAV 7 installed back, too. Now, I want to upgrade to KAV 8 (Kaspersky's web site says, that I can use my KAV 7 key for KAV 8), but, it says, that it can't install with ZA Firewall installed. And that sucks. Any help?

The only one I can think of that starts with B and gives info in html is Belarc:

Might as well hijack this thread rather than start a new one.

I'm rather embarrassed to say, my parents decided to buy a Dell rather than let me build a PC. This has resulted in our PC being obsolete after only half a year of being owned (which is rather 1337 for a Dell, I'd say). I ought to have in the ballpark of $600 in CANADIAN dollars by the end of the year.

The specs for this Dell PC are:

Pentium Dual Core 2.99Ghz

1GB RAM

NVidia GeForce 7300LE

Should I:

-Upgrade this peice of sh*t to 3GB RAM & 9800GT 512MB

-Build a new PC

Remember, I only have $600 Canadian Dollars. I also need money left over for GTA IV.

The first option would be good with $600, and I didn't know you could still get Pentium Ds....

Lmao, it was purchased more like 2005-ish.

Also, without opening my PC up, how would I check what kind of RAM it uses? As in DDR1, DDR2, etc. I'm fairly certain mine uses DDR2, but I don't want to go blow cash on RAM only to find out I can't use it.

[EDIT] Oh and Hi Joe biggrin.gif

[EDIT2] I also have a internet related question.

I recently contacted my ISP about why in the f*ck I only get 20kbps downloading, when he told me we were signed up for a 100kbps download speed. Could this have anything to do with the fact our Modem was made in 2000?

Define local phone exchange?

And 3GB is not enough? D:

[EDIT] Oh and I've managed to pull off download rates of 70kbps, but when I checked taskmanager, FireFox was whoring something like 700MB of RAM... I swear, it was like the first time I had to USE virtual memory when not in a gaming situation.

I've got a quick question reguarding wifi networking. My landlord has wifi, which is password protected (her and I are the only ones with the password) so, a few days ago, my x-box was off, but my network adapter for it was still plugged in, with a light flashing, and I was using my computer with a wireless adapter plugged into that, and I think I was looking at youtube videos. Anyways, she said she wasn't able to connect to the network, and I'm trying to figure out exactly why that was, because I obviously don't want to keep her from connecting. I only have two thoughts about the problem: Maybe her router can't handle three connections, or she can only have one or two static IP addresses. Any thoughts? Any guesses are welcome, as I have no idea

Sounds obvious but try unplugging the Xbox then seeing if the problem still occurs, that should give you a better view on what to do next.

actually, my landlord never mentioned a that there was a problem when the xbox was plugged in, it was only once I had my computer hooked up. I use someone else's signal for my computer now.

I was just hoping that there'd be some quick answer, because I'm kinda dumb when it comes to wirelesss networking. I guess I'll have to troubleshoot it

Well most routers are able to sustain 36 connections at once (32 wireless computers and 4 wired ones merely browsing the internet, I would strongly recommend not to P2P on that many connections at once) so I wouldn't think that three would be any hardship for the router. Perhaps it was simply her wireless card was on the fritz?

you said p2p, I know using such programs as limewire can be very bandwidth consuming, but I was sure she said she couldn't even connect to the network to begin with, she never mentioned speed as an issue.

I have noticed that sometimes when I try to connect to her network, there are times when I simply can't connect at all, but I can see that I still have four bars of reception.

I appreciate everyone's help very much btw. thank you

Maybe something's up with the router itself (they do die), or you're getting interference from another source, such a wireless telephone?

About P2P: I meant that it uses up a LOT of connections in the router and suggested that should you run P2P on a router you won't be able to connect nearly as many computers without the router crashing.

If I shrink my C:\ drive by say 20GB and install XP on it would I still be able to access my installed programs and games from the Vista partition? More importantly, would they work?

Bump.

It's quite a good deal, but then again I don't know what the Canadian components market is like, but doing a conversion to GBP it's around 140 notes which is a good price.

I installed ubuntu a couple of nights ago and customised it a bit. I deleted the bottom panel, where windows would go when you minimized them, but as its not there anymore, they seem to just dissappear into the corner of the screen and I cant get them back.

Anyone have any solutions? Either that or get them to minimize to the top panel?
