Say if I wanted to buy a PC, just without its case, would any other PC case fit with all the stuff inside it? I mean, does it have to be a specific sort?

The one that just fits a PIII mobo won't be able to accomodate a PIV mobo and so on...

It all depends on the size. You'll have to find it out yourself.

@Deuce, Case sizes are usually sold according to motherboard form factor, for example, m-ATX cases can fit only m-ATX motherboards.

So, when buying a case look at the form factor of the motherboard and then buy the case you want.

What video card's better? The ATi Radeon HD 3870, Or the nVidia GeForce 8800 GT?

The 8800GT is faster, but the 3870 comes VERY close to it in terms of performance.

It might even be faster if ATI sorted out it's totally sh*t drivers they got right now.

Why is Vista Extremely slow on this rig:

3GB DDR2 @ 800mhz

nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX W/768Mb of memory

1TB HDD, @ 7200RPM

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz

All drivers updated, checked for viruses, did scans, used Vista Sp1, ended all processes that take up a lot of memory. Why is it too slow?

I have XP On this PC Too, and it runs Extremely fast.

Any ideas why it's too slow?

gtamodder, is your hard disk almost full or something? Tried defrag?

I ran Vista on my crappy PC without any slowishness. On your PC, it should be blazing.

My hard disk isn't full, I have 940GB Free. I tried defrag, many times, and it still slow.

I used CCleaner too, it helped a little, but it's still slow. whatsthat.gif

How slow is it exactly? Too bad? Maybe try turning off some of the features by adjusting the settings for best performance instead of appearance.

It is very slow, and like if I try to start a program, it takes 10 minuites to start, and too bad. I tried better apperance then peformance, it did help, but it still lags a little, but not too bad so I don't mind about it.

The long time to start up programs could be because you clear out your Prefetch or have disabled it.

I REALLY don't think it's possible for a PC of that sort to run Vista 'extremely slow', you mentioned that your Vista installation is clean too, which makes it being slow even more unlikely. I somehow get the feeling you're making it up confused.gif.

Well what happens is, it takes ages when I try to start programs, and the system crashes so much. I know, even my friends thought I was making it up.

I formated the HDD, It works now. I think a system file must have been corrupted. It's very smooth, and fast as lightning now.

Anyone knows of a good program to resize animated .gif images. I need it for my signature.

Or maybe i should ask in the GFX requests sub-forum for someone to do it for me ?

My friend is building a PC and is on a tight budget, but he doesn't need really good peformance (He's not playing games). But he was thinking of getting an AMD Sempron 3200+ @ 1.8Ghz. As I said, he is not needing good peformance, so should he get the AMD Sempron?

Hey, does anyone know a good Traffic Monitor? A one that shows which process is using Internet connection most, how much etc.

Also, I've heard, that the new nVidia drivers include a physics something. I don't remember much, or what it was, but I read that it will be built in the new cards or something. Any idea?

Ok, it's all done apart from I've hit a wall. Much to my dismay I have found that my 8800GT doesn't have a vga input, nothing to worry about I thought as the graphics card came with two adapters, however I was wrong. I can't get any picture through it by any means. It's so frustrating, at the moment I'm trying it as so:

PC>Adapter>VGA cable>Monitor

I have also tried:

PC>DVI cable>VGA input on my monitor.

I see that my monitor has a DVI input socket however the cable I have is only one ended DVI and the other VGa. I can't do the reverse and go:

PC>Adapter>VGA end of cable>DVI input as my DVI doesn't fit in it. Is there another type of DVI cable that is double ended? That will work with my Samsung SyncMaster 2232?

Gah! So close yet so far.

Also, another question. I am on a budget, And I need a good hard drive (from 500GB To 1TB Of space). What would you suggest from about £30 to £70 (£70 max), but it needs to be good HDD.

Get a 500GB WD HD, and buy an exclosure for it. You can shop around and find a good eSATA/USB 2.0 enclosure

My computer (Vista) refuses to go into stand by, just pops right out of it when I try. May have something to do with 360 media extender but I'm not so sure.

Maybe there's some device making it "wake up" again. Because, you know, you can set like USB or ethernet devices to wake up the computer. Check your power plan settings...

I had the same problem with mine, I had to connect the monitor cable to where it was before (On board graphics), press DEL To get into BIOS, And in there, disable the on board graphics. Then I had to save changes and exit, then I connected the cable where it was when it wouldn't get any signal, and it worked.

Along with about a billion other people in the world, I have a simple question: What is better, the 512 MB 9600GT or 512 MB 8800GT?

I know the 9600GT is better for the money, but I'm not really concerned about the $10 (after rebate) or so in price difference if there is any real performance increase on either card.

So 64 Stream processors and G94 chip or G92 chip and 112 stream processors?

Looking at 8800GT and 9600GT

Please keep in mind that my PSU is only 550 watts, but it is SLI certified, has plenty of amps, and runs my 7950GT with ease. Shouldn't be a problem, but just in case it is.

Another consideration: My friend has the same case as I (NZXT Apollo) and his 9600GT fits but it's pretty close. Is the 8800GT bigger?

The 8800GT is faster than the 9600GT. Like you probably know, the 9 series isn't that much of an improvement at all from the 8 series. The only card that stands out is the 9800GX2.

So, get the 8800GT.

I am fairly sure the 9600GT is about as long as a 8800GT but depending on the cooler the 8800GT might be slightly wider. I am not sure on the Apollo but my NZXT Trinity fits an 8800GT perfectly.
