darthYENIK
I just installed battlefield 2 for the first time on this computer. I was fairly confident that it would run near the highest settings, since my computer surpasses all the recommended settings some, like RAM, by twice as much. But when I go into a game, it's choppy as hell, usually when there are multiple characters on screen. What threw me off was that it wasn't a normal slow framerate, where there is one frame, then a another a second or so later. It does like 30fps for one or two seconds, and then one frame for one or two seconds. I lowered the graphics, I raised the graphics. And the same thing is happening. Here is the comparison of what I have and what is recommended (copy and pasted from systemrequirementslab.com)... CPURecommended: Pentium 4 or Athlon XP You Have: AMD Sempron 140 Processor CPU Speed Recommended: 2.4 GHz You Have: 2.7 GHz RAM Recommended: 1 GB You Have: 2.0 GB OS Recommended: Windows XP (32-bit version)/Vista/7 You Have: Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 32-bit Video Card Recommended: 256 MB DirectX 9.0 compliant video card (GeForce FX 5700+/Radeon 9500+) You Have: GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a DirectX version Recommended: 9.0 (included) You Have: 11.0 Sound Card Recommended: Yes You Have: High Definition Audio Device PASS Free Disk Space Recommended: 3 GB You Have: 213.6 GB CD-ROM Recommended: 8x speed CD-ROM (This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some CD/DVD-ROM, CD/DVD-RW and virtual drives.) David.
Guys, I was playing Crysis Warhead and the max temperature was 84 C. Is that safe? Should I manually set the fan to high? The game runs around 45 fps on enthusiast settings on my 6870. Edited May 3, 2011 by d4v1d
yoječ
@darthYENIK: IMHO your CPU and GPU are far from being good enough for this game. @d4v1d: It's fine.

yoječ
It's hard to tell, I don't think that AMD ever siad what is the maximum temp for this GPU. I'd say if it's below 90C, it's fine.

Yeah, Battlefield BC2 has the highest minimum requirements, and to be fair you didn't pass them by that much. You want to pass the requirement by leaps and bounds (IE 4gb of ram, 3ghz processor). Wolf68k
He said BF2 not BFBC2. BC2 requires a dual-core at minimum. @darthYENIK Your GPU is fine-ish but then isn't the 7025 an onboard card? Your real problem is the CPU. While it is a 2.7GHz it barely matches up to an AMD XP running at 2.4GHz. I use to run an AMD XP 3200+ which runs at 2.2GHz but runs like a 3.2GHz and that's the important part. nVidia 6800GS 256GB AGP and 2GB of RAM and I still couldn't run at the highest settings. And you have to remember this; when a game says what the minimum system requirements are that is to say this is the minimum you'll need to run the game at around the lowest to mid-range settings. Just because you go over that even a little bit doesn't mean you can run at the highest settings.

Just because you go over that even a little bit doesn't mean you can run at the highest settings. Just to make things clear, those aren't the "Minimum" requirements. Those are the recommended... - Minimum Specification: CPU: 1.7 Ghz RAM: 512 Mb Video Card: NVidia GeForce FX 5700, ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon 9500 with 128 Mb of RAM - Recommended Specification: CPU: 2.4 Ghz RAM: 1 Gb Video Card with at least 256 Mb of RAM - My PC's Specifications: CPU: 2.7 Ghz RAM: 2 Gb Video Card: with 512 Mb of RAM So I figured since on paper my specs surpass even the Recommended specs, and the fact that I used to run this game years ago on a 1.7Ghz Athlon (I forget the model, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't anything special). I'd at least be able to play this game on low settings, but that doesn't look like it's possible with this computer. Oh well. Thanks for the advise, guys. Jay
Twice now my screen has started flickering and then my computer has frozen. I rebooted and got a bsod about an infinite loop due to 'nv4_disp', which according to Google is fairly common and to do with drivers. I rebooted again and the computer is functioning normally, but it'll probably be a matter of time before it happens again. What do? Download new drivers? Wolf68k
First scan and clean the system; virus scan, spyware scan, reg cleaning, chkdsk and just for grins defrag. It could be a glitch or it could be something nasty.

I'm not exactly sure what "taking the piss" means, but if you look at the list there are several that say "fixing nv4_disp.dll bluescreen." You just need to A) install Driver Cleaner Pro B) Boot up in safe mode C) Uninstall the nVidia drivers you have currently D) Run Driver Cleaner Pro with the filters of NVidia E) install the latest drivers for your card. Stinky12
If you got a spare computer or notebook, you can share that drive and do a network install. As for something not related to your question, here are some news from the web. A leak board from Asus for the upcoming AMD Bulldozer platform. Expect more of these to arrive from other board makers at this years Computex. Want to win a SB board, now you can by playing a game! <--No seriously, it's not some BS. Asus Digiton Intel will being to ship its 22nm process CPU using their new 3-D tri-gate transistors. It's also said 22nm CPU using tri-gate can increase the performance by up to 37% at low voltages. I'm not being unappreciative. I'm downloading the latest drivers now because when I booted my computer up this afternoon it went straight to Safe Mode. Biggest issue was really working out what graphics card I actually had. Is the driver cleaning program necessary if you're just updating them? Fozzy Fozborne
I would recommend it, especially since you're experiencing problems with your drivers. From now on you can probably just do the typical driver update. I apologize, you caught me on an off day and I probably shouldn't have posted. I didn't mean to sound patronizing. If you have any more issues with your card, and they seem to be directly related to a game (usually when you exit a game it can lead to a bluescreen), be sure to post the name of the game as there's probably a fix for it. Claude Speed.
I came in here to ask where that tutorial for rotating\dynamic signature is, but I might as well post a minor problem I have. Almost every time I put my computer into hibernation mode, the refresh rate of my monitor changes to 60 Hz I think which adds black borders on the sides. In the display settings it still shows 75 Hz (the refresh rate I set) but it's not running at that refresh rate and switching between resolutions and refresh rates doesn't fix it. The only way I can get it back to normal is by restarting. Is there any other way to fix this (besides restarting, obviously)?
Wolf68k
@The Unvirginiser You mean DVD/CD drive, yes? First try booting from an bootable CD/DVD like which ever OS disc you have. If it boots to that correctly then it's a problem within the OS, I've seen then before in which it was spyware that cause the problem If it doesn't boot, then reseat the data cable or try a completely different data cable. Still nothing? Try the drive in a PC whose drive is working. If it works in the other PC then it's a problem with the mobo. Or maybe even the PSU, sounds strange but I've seen it. If it doesn't work in the other PC then try the drive the other PC in your system just to double make sure, but it would still sound like that drive is dead.
