@Burbalade Any plans making a stepside bed?

I'd started on one for a concept for a friend, but never got it near looking good enough to go in game.

Got some more work done on the Tahoe Z71 though.

@burbalade The shape from the stepside demands more polygons....lots of tight curves.

Still remember seeing this model on a "heartbeat of America" era ads...

@Fido That screenshot reminds me of that dude making low poly GTA4 cars for San Andreas. It took me 3 months to get my Fairlane and J40 Land Cruiser done. It took me 4 days to get my monte Carlo complete for Vice City...I missed the old days...

I feel like we all had more time to devote to it in the old days, and without much to convert from many were forced into making scratch models of the vehicles they wanted. I'm almost ashamed to admit I was never very good at making scratch models, though I have made a number that look decent but were low poly and not very accurate. With the very little bit of free time I have now, I could never hope to complete a scratch model for IV, so I've sort of retreated to finding models close enough to what I want and making them as accurate as possible.

I have noticed recently that I've gotten a LOT better with accuracy on the smaller stuff I've been making, which is odd seeing as I don't spend any where near the time I used to in z modeler. Seats and side view mirrors I've always found difficult for some reason, but after reworking my several year old scratch seats last week and an Escalade mirror today, it seems I'm finally getting the hang of them.

This one was quickly thrown together quite some time ago, I was trying make use of the existing bed and body lines but I think I figured out half way through that if it was ever going to look decent I'd need to make the entire flare and step area from scratch, which I never got around to.

You have pretty good observation skills, so the more you model the better. Side mirror is indeed a pain, it means you are modelling with insufficient reference photo (1 or 2 view is not enough) you need a lot of multi angle ones specially one more complex shapes. If you love more details then a high resolution or lots of close up shots are needed.

looks like you are in the right track, You don't need to redo the entire bed, just the parts of the flare and the bed wall. The flare needs to be more rounded and no hard line between the flare and the bed wall. Hard to explain but I'll post a pic how to deal with complex shapes.

The flare area on that one was essentially done from memory (IIRC I lacked internet for reference that night) The top of the bed rails with the sharp body line along with tailgate, tail lights, etc. I'll be keeping. But the flare and bottom half of the bedside I'll just start over completely.

That Stepside in those colors and those wheels instantly reminded me of the Hercules Monster Truck

Yeah, almost done! I just need to add mirror, window and damaged model, Unwrap everything, set the texture and the dummy correctly and try it ingame

Those're some nice tailights you got! Out of wondering, does the whole "wraparound" light up when the rear lights come on? I was thinking about doing the same for one of my cars but I didn't know if that would happen or not.

@Bondergomme - It looks really good.Nice work! It looks a bit boxy though, I'd put some curves on the sides.Bitches love curves.

That... looks... AMAZING!

You're really talented at making 3D-era vehicles dude! Great work. :santa:

Thanks :) It's not that hard. You just use III's textures and try to keep the polycount at the minimum. And I guess you have to replaythe game like a hundred times so you'll know what fits the era :) I wish these post would encourage others to make such mods. That'd be awesome

I know there are some Beta car mods and a few guys doing car mash-ups, but here it's very rare to see a mod for III or GTA:LC.

You certainly are inspiring me to want to make vehicle mods but even though I have a registered ZModeler it's been left unused for a while because I literally don't know the first thing about modding a car. :D

When GTAIII came out and I was introduced into III modding, the first thing was to get a sh*tload of mods into the game. And when that wasn't enough I began to make my own mods.Well I was trying :D A little texture-tweeking here and there.Retextured some cars buildings weapons etc. That can be a lot of fun too. Then importing models in zmod, modify it (like chopping a cars roof, or create one) then export it.It's not much of a work but it's fun and helps you explore the basics.I think I'd start like that, if I were you.

And the most important: do it for fun!

Hmm, you're right. I might make a vehicle mod fairly soon as it's something I've been wanting to do for ages. Since my most-played 3D era GTA game is San Andreas I'll probably mess about with a car on that by doing what you suggested with the roofs and stuff. :santa:

Thank you for giving me tips!

Yep, since SA doesn't support tail lamps.

Awesome vehicles in here. That PCJ is totally awesome, I wish there were more GTA III mods to be honest. That other car reminds me of a Towncar. I saw Emperor mentioned, but I thought it reminded me of a more upscale version of the Washington. Kinda like a mix of the Sentinel, Washington, Emperor, and the Sentinel. Either way, totally rad! I would put some more fancy wheels on it though, maybe like the wheels on the Sentinel, or the Perennial.

It would be cooler if you could do the LCS version in III style. :D

I know I got my workshop to show it off and all, but I remember before that, I showed my stuff off here so yeah, returning to the roots a little bit for Christmas. I did up a civil version of hotrina for SA seeing as it's a pretty good looker, reminds me a lot of the Opel Manta B sorta.

I'm surprised there aren't many civilian hotring mods out there it seems.

I'm not trying to put myself down, it's just that every ZModeler tutorial I look at, people either do everything too quickly or it's in 240p so I can't see what they're doing at all. :D

Again, practice makes perfect. I remember when I first started looking up 3D modelling videos I was like "no f*cking way I could do this", but now I'm pretty alright at it.

Speaking of, don't watch videos, get a book on it. That helps quite a bit.

That was like me when I first started learning Photoshop, lol.

I guess you're right, I'll have to start reading some books about ZModeler.
