Or what do you mean with your PC being too sh*tty? Looks pretty low-poly to me. I did models with like 50 times more polygons on my antique AMD Duron system. biggrin.gif

Yeah, nice Testarossa model and indeed a very clean and nice wireframe! Too bad your work never sees any gta, Bumper3D confused.gif

Don't you think it would be nice to let some of your work be converted to sa or IV?

 

 

those last days I kind of got obsessed with the idea of making a little showroom for the rod!

So, here it is! the model is pretty simple, textures are from cgtextures. The shadows are rendered in max with a skylight and an omnilight. Much tewaking, fixing, texturing, adjusting, etc, but I think it turned out quite well smile.gif

 

Here a few pics, all "zmod-(pseudo)renders" biggrin.gif

Woah, nice work on the C-Rod and same with the showroom... Funny how I've been using max for so long but still can't get that decent materials.. (Hell, I don't even know how you get those reflections to show up?)

 

Oh and I wouldn't mind my cars being in GTA games.... It's just that until the very few most recent models, they've all lacked engines, separate doors/hatches etc... In other words, I never really thought of GTA while modelling them. Now this one seems to be developing into a more "GTA-compatible" direction, so there's a chance of seeing this in IV... If I figure out how, that is. smile.gif

But for now, does anyone know why these polygons are visible when I look at them through the windscreen/doors but not through the chassis windows. All I did was change the .bmp loaded as the texture and now they've gone.

Another query, which I should take to the Modelling forum but it'd take a week to get a half-hearted answer (no offence, just being blunt). Can you add an "extra1" object to any car without modifying anything other than .dff? (i.e. an object which only appears on some of the vehicles you see around)

@Epoxi: Nice Cheetah modification you got there! I have been working on cars like that too, but I never felt like posting something here because I thought it wasn't really relevant compared to those great scratch made models people make here. I should try modelling something myself, but for now I don't have enough patience to learn how to..

Well, the guys over at g-wm talked me into rebuilding the engine and adding the twin blower setup from my reference model. So I put in a few days of modeling and completely remodeld the engine, transmission and rear axle:

That's the complete model:

I've added some more steps to the "C", changed the front light setup, added sidemirrors and those nice stock model T Lights at the sides.

I also changed the exhausts a bit, widened the ends so that the come a bit closer to the body. Looks quite nice like that imo smile.gif

I think you got the wires sequence on the distributor wrong, but that's alright i made the same mistake haha

It's hard getting all those details on an engine, do you model only from reference pictures?

actually those are all just plain zmod shceenshots biggrin.gif

All the lighting is baked on the textures, that's the only point where I opened max for it. I baked plain diffusemaps and added them on the textures afterwards.

As for the reflections, that's just an old zmod trick wink.gif

the platform the rod sits on has an alpha layer and everything that should be reflected is just copied, mirrored and put under the scene. that makes the illusion of a reflection. Heres how the scene looks from a bigger distance:

Thanks smile.gif Yeh, I know the sequence isn't right, but for one I don't know the right sequence and it was much easier to model it symmetrical wink.gif I think besides you almost noone notices that kind of detail. And yes, I only model from reference pics, no blueprints or anything similar. Avtually this engine is a wide mix between different refences and my own imagination how i could look

my internet is back on so i can upload pics and some beta versions (later today maybe)

 

also started working on my wheels again, trying to get them in game.. no luck with the wheels yet.

still some work to do, chrome isn't working yet, and some other materials need tweaking a bit.

modshop stuff mostly works, more will be added later

Looking pretty good, the windows need some low value specular and some nice reflection, the frontlights should be brighter and the chrome less blueish. It also looks like your gloss value for the plastic parts is way too high, the specular highlight should look smoother. Dunno if the paint material has the same problem.

 

Good looking materials with nice specular and reflection settings are as important as a good model, unfortunatly alot of people ignore or dont know that.

i will have a look at the grille and see if i can add some more of a curve. there are still quite a lot of bits to finish, including the ripples on the bumpers, steering wheel & column, and lots more little details

Well, I could tell you some 3ds max material settings, never worked with Zmodeler. Maybe Mindf*ck can help, he makes the best materials imo. biggrin.gif
