Nice convert.

But the bumper looks its screwede up inside the bumper.

You should to move the midle poly more backwards to match the chassis.

If it's a 3d vehicle, boat, plane, heli then you are in the right topic icon14.gif

Here you can talk about real cars

It's photos of cars that you've modeled yourself. You can't just take a picture of a random downloaded vehicle and post it here.

So. I decided to go for harder things, and from now on I'm going to be modelling using Rhinoceros 4. Working on a F-40. After 8 hours of work, this is what me gots:

(Rendered in 3dsmax of course. durr.)

Looking rough, but still haven't got to the filleting phase. That will either be heaven or hell. But it'll make it look 1000000s times better. Also can't wait to start detailing this baby, the way I love detailing sh*t on Rhino I'll probably end up making a fully functional 3d engine tounge.gif

What is so special about rhino, Tchuck? The model looks sweet anyway, loving the detail with the bumpers and the air intakes turn.gif I like the render effects, makes it look like that material that is often used to model concepts vehicles icon14.gif

Here is my sweety...

Eh, it's different. Rhino you really can't polymodel, so you use NURBS. And by using NURBS, you get access to a whole lot of tools that can really work wonders!

One thing I could never get to work in 3dsmax was booleans. It would cut up badly, it would make sh*t meshes. Now on rhino, if I need to cut something up, all I have to do is draw a line and bam, it's cut! And the remaining mesh is great! That's so helpful when cutting up car parts, cutting holes for extra details and plain old detailing. When I was making a wheel on rhino, I did all the screws and stuff, because it was easy. Then I went further and made the brake system, complete with braking pads, disks, every little screw and hole there is. And it was easy, and not system consuming!

Let me give you an example.

Say I want to make a curved-ish grill. On max, I'd most likely skip to a bump map.

On rhino:

You start making a surface

user posted image

Then you draw the grill like thing you want to cut (note how it doesn't need to touch the surface)

user posted image

Then, you do a simple split operation using the drawing as a cutting surface

user posted image

A simple extruding process, and voilá!

user posted image

Is there a way to do that on max? Probably. Is it as simple? Maybe not.

So that's why I like Rhino!

You could create and copy a bunch of 6 sided cylinders to creat your honeycomb effect, then use boolean subtraction to create the cut outs with them.

Whether it is simpler I couldn't say.

The only thing I use Max for, apart from peds. wink.gif

With rhino, you use an array command, and it'll automatically place all the hexagons in the right position. Max has a way of screwing up with booleans. At least it always did for me tounge.gif

Hey guys, this is my first mod ever, and I mean ever:

user posted image

I hope you guys like it, I'm very proud. I've had a couple of failed attempts at getting into modding, but I got some tips, and decided to give it another crack. Now I know it's not the greatest tire, but it's good for a first time you've got to say. Anyway, problem is, does anyone know a program that can convert it into a dff (from Sketchup) file? I know 3DS Max does this, but that would mean I would need to keep downloading the trail (Zmodeller or gmax perhaps?). So yeah, any help there would be appreciated. And when I next get time, I might add a rim as well and show you guys wink.gif .

Peace out.......

1) 3D Studios Max -> Tools -> Array.

It can be 1D, 2D, or 3D array as noted in the array dimensions box.

2) Polygons don't always seem to be 100% with booleans though 3DSM's latest 'ProBoolean' tool has been flawless for me thus far.

3) Given your vast interest in rendering, what is your opinion on Rhino's material/render capabilities?

What an incredible waste of polys bored.gif Id just make a 3 poly surface and use a texture with an alpha channel.
