Gta3 wont even load anymore... Please Help.

Ok. Before I get started let me say thank your for your time in advance. I would also like to say that before I posted this thread I searched the internet (and this forum) for fixes for my problem and none of them have worked. Ok, my system specs are... Dell Inspiron laptop. 80 gig Hard Drive, 1 gig ram, 512 mb video memory ATI Radeon, integrated sound, windows xp home, AMD Turion 64 processor. My problem is this, I played Grand theft auto for the first time today and it worked absolutely fine. It looked beautiful. I only finished the first couple of missions and then I saved. I then tried to load the game later today and it wont load anymore. It gets past the first two rockstar games and grand theft auto title videos but it wont load the menu. After the second title video the screen just goes black and freezes. No error messages, no noise, nothing. It just goes black and freezes like that. I tried every fix I could find. I deleted the .set files in my documents, I messed with the resolution, I installed latest video drivers, I tried to do the XP fix but the files arent meant for DirectX 9, i even tried updating to 1.1. No luck, the problem has stayed the same. If you have any advice I will be very grateful. Like I said i played it earlier and it worked fine and I havent changed anything since then...Its strange, I know.

try reinstalling the game.

Reinstalling (along with most of what was tried) would be a waste of time anyways. All that XP talk and not one mention of compatibility mode.
