Realistic top speeds?

Recommended Posts

How can i make a car have a realistic top speed without having an exaggerated acceleration?

I mean i want to have my cars have a realistic topspeed of about 100-125 mph, but still have an realistic acceleration. If i choose high velocity and low engine acceleration, i will just end up with a car with slow acceleration and low top speed. If i make a high acceleration and high velocity, it will end up with a car with high top speed as i want, but also a completely insane and unrealistic acceleration.

I experimented a lot with it, and also found out, that the top speed and acceleration is limited by the cars mass (weight)? I don't know if you also found out, or know why? A very light car with a mass of about 300 will not go over 60 mph. even if it has a velocity and acceleration of 300, but as soon as you change the mass to about 2000 it will go over 150 mph. Very interesting. Anyone have any ideas?

This will probably be of use to you. I've only dabbled briefly on handling, but Cerberas known as probably the best person to ask on these forums about it.

Setting a vehicle top speed but leaving the engine acceleration a little lower, and engine momentum or whatever it's called to be quite high is probably the best idea for this bit.

As for weight...meh just a quirk of the phyics in the game. Setting vehicle weight to a standard car weight and generally ignoring it after that seems to do the job I find. Mind you I thought setting a vehicle top speed would counteract any low mass...meh.
