Pranjal
In his message for the World Day for Social Communications, Pope Benedict XVI has condemned violent or sexually explicit video games and animated films. "Any trend to produce programmes and products - including animated films and video games - which in the name of entertainment exalt violence and portray anti-social behavior or the trivialization of human sexuality is a perversion, all the more repulsive when these programmes are directed at children and adolescents." The Pope blames the creators of these mediums, who, according to the head of the Catholic Church, tend to develop these “repulsive” and “perverted” products for the sake of competitiveness, lowering the standards. "While affirming the belief that many people involved in social communications want to do what is, we must also recognize that those who work in this field confront "special psychological pressures and ethical dilemmas" which at times see commercial competitiveness compelling communicators to lower standards." The Pope proposes a solution; the introduction of young people to "children's classics in literature, to the fine arts and to uplifting music." We guess the Pope won’t like Marilyn Manson or Grindhouse, the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodríguez exploitation film. Will the Pope like Gears of War’s Destroyed Beauty concept and the chainsaw executions? We don’t think so… Link: Here. The Pope has spoken ! Looks like he met Mr.Thompson recently. The people will decide what is good for them.

iRloading
bad news for a pro-christian country like mine~ well... not really... who listens to the church these days? I mean SERIOUSLY listens to the church and their nay-says? still... too bad the anti-game advocates still don't realize that games are like movies, target audience and limited public privelages~ rather parents still don't realize that video games are no longer "just a kid's toy" the kids of decades old have grown up, and so have their tastes in entertainment, gaming industry keeps up = violence and sex although I fully agree with the pope's re-promotion of music and classic literature~ kids need to read books, make them learn to type better in the intarnets
E.A.B.
The article I read basically said "it's bad, and even worse when its advertised towards children". I have to agree with him, it is bad when violent games are advertised towards children. But I didn't see GTA:SA commercials during Spongebob or on Cartoon Network. I saw them during Southpark, [Adult Swim], etc. So I don't know what hes on about. regardless, I dont go to church anyways. Why should I listen to this guy? Knowledge Novice
These games are made and rated to be for mature gamers. If a parent has the money to buy, say a PS3 for their 3rd grader, but not the time to regulate what the child does with it, then maybe they should hire a nanny to do the parenting that they are obviously too busy to do. And as far as the politicains and heads of church that get such a thrill out of trying to regulate everyone elses daily lives, I'm sure they probably have a few skeletons in their closets. If a mature adult wants to play a gorey video game or watch a graphic animation, then who's business is it but their own. Parents should keep a check on what their kids are up to, regulations should be enforced regarding the sale of materials to minors, and all these "well-to-do's" should get a life and let us live our own. Too many people causing too many problems. Or maybe we should just give up all our rights and freedoms. Yeah, maybe if we just zone out and let the zealots take over; maybe then this would be a better world. Next thing you know there'll be someone shouting that the world should wear standardized uniforms. Whatever....

Greene
and this guy was a nazi in wwII He was in the Nazi Youth when he was a boy. Along with every other German boy at the time. That's a stupid thing to hold against him. I don't hate the new Pope but he's too conservative for his own good. John Paul 2 was a great Pope. AndyGanteks
whats the point of under18's not playing violent games. For example today you are 17 and you cant play the games , but tomorrow its your 18 birthday and your parents buy you violent games give you violent movies and hardcore adult films whats the difference.
