Kaj.
Well, as I only have one half decent computer (my Toshiba satellite 1400 notebook), and it's just about to hit it's 5 year mark, I was wondering if there are any good programs to use to streamline its operation? The hardware specs as of now Intel Celeron 1.3 Ghz 256MB RAM (PC133) 40GB HDD In about 2 weeks I'm planning on upgrading the RAM to 1GB. Right now I don't have enough cash to build my own computer, and I've invested quite a bit of cash in to PCMCIA cards (Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS [$120], D-Link Rangebooster N Wi-Fi Card [$100~]), USB devices, etc. I like my notebook. It has a sentimental value. What can I do to make it more efficient?
Fozzy Fozborne
Click start, then click on run, now type in "msconfig" (without the quotes) and click ok. System Configuration Utility will launch, when it does click on the last tab labeled "startup". If you uncheck a box, that will stop it from launching with your system startup, which will reduce the stress on your RAM and CPU, just be careful to not uncheck any soundcard drivers, virus software, graphics drivers, etc. There are many things that can be safely removed, gttask (Quicktime task), any instant messenger program, such as AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, etc. Another recommendation is install another 256 MB RAM card in your laptop. That should really get you some better performance (they're about $30)
Kaj.
Like I said in my first post, I'm upgrading it to 1GB of RAM when I get my next paycheck. Furthermore, there aren't any local computer shops that still carry PC133 notebook RAM, as it's quite outdated by recent standards.
