To sprint you must tap (press several times quickly) the [go forward] button - in your case [W]. It's the 1st thing you learn when you start a new game. This is true, though it took me a while to realize that there is tapping, and then there is TAPPING. If tapped really fast, CJ will stand up and sprint much faster than the normal tapping sprint.
