Daggdave
Alright, as the title says, I need to change/add transmission fluid to my car. I recently bought a 1991 Ford Escort LX, and the guy I bought it from told me there was a slight, slow leak, from the 'gear box'. Now I dont know what that is, but ive been told that whatever is leaking is the transmission fluid. (this is a manual transmission by the way). I have noticed since I have been driving it, which is about almost 2 months now, is my shifter seems to be grinding, if you will. I know when you have the car in neutral, and the shifter is in the center, you are able to move it back and forth to the left or right, and it usually will pop back into the center when you let go. I notice now that when I do that, it will just stay in its position, and wont bounce back, and it sounds like its grinding. And it has become more and more hard to shift it seems. I dont know how I would go about replacing/fixing this issue. I dont have much money to go and have someone do it, so I was trying to figure out how easy it would be to do myself. So if anyone can help out, or link me to something to help, it would be appreciated.
lurchseesu420
sounds like what you need is to change your transmission oil. not hard really there should be a bolt somewhere directly the transmission to drain it and apply it. theres this little pump/applicator tool to put the new gear oil in with. just go to your local auto parts store and they should be able to help with it.
